The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

The Eden Beach Lookout and Playspace is a brand new section of Eden Beach estate in Jindalee has just opened (Dec 2021) and it’s great for the older kids! Featuring a basketball court, rock climbing wall, parkour, skate/scooter ramps and a huge grassy area it’s a beautiful spot to spend a few hours. Tucked away in inner city suburb is Mabel Talbot Park. The absolute gem of a park has not just one, but two playgrounds! Mabel Talbot Park is fairly compact, but my word a lot is packed into this wonderful space built around a small lake! Featherflower Park is located in Dayton it is a new open space that has just been added to the suburb. The park includes stunning natural wetlands with different play areas for kids of all ages to explore plus an outdoor gym for the adults. Treehouse Cove Playground is Golden Bay’s newest playground. The treehouse-inspired playground opened in July 2022 and features nature-based play elements, slides, seesaws, a toddler play space, lots of open turf areas and picnic and BBQ facilities. Fairway Park has recently been upgraded by the City of Cockburn. It is a gorgeous little space with a sweet Fairy theme. The playground has been designed with imaginative play in mind with a fairy theme, there is a gum leaf pod cubby house just alongside a mushroom table & chairs set, perfect for your little fairies, pixies, gnomes or pirates to have a snack while planning their next adventure. The popular Mills Park facility has recently opened a new all-abilities playground near the bbqs and grassed area. This new edition to the existing Mills Park Playspace and Skate Plaza is fully fenced and double gated which is also great for younger children. A good amount of the enclosed playground area is covered by shade sails and there are also a few seating options for parents too. Perth’s newest inner-city playground, Wellington Square Playground, has just opened! Koolangka Koolangka Waabiny means children’s playground in Whadjuk Nyoongar. WA’s native Banksia plant theme can be spotted throughout the vast play space. The colourful floating disc above the playground not only provides shade but also reflect the stars and sky from Dreamtime stories. We had an absolute blast at Bathers Park, the newest addition to Alkimos Beach. Nestled alongside the Alkimos Beach foreshore, Bathers Park stretches across 2.5 hectares at the ocean end of Leatherback Boulevard. This vibrant beach-themed was an instant hit with my kids and completely captured their imaginations! The highlight of our visit was the impressive surf rescue play tower, soaring seven meters high. Found in the heart of a new housing estate, Mason Green Park in Piara Waters is a brilliant spot for a play. There’s lots of fun elements packed into this compact playground including a little nature play, as well as thinks to keep active and fit. The wooden play equipment is partly shaded by shade sails and built on a mix of woodchip and soft fall base. And there’s lots to explore… There’s a nest swing, perfect for lounging around in! While the Wanneroo skate park has been established for a long time a children’s playground is a more recent addition. The park sits within the confines of the showgrounds, meaning it is secure for little runaways! I’m not sure if the playground colours of green and purple are a nod to the 1970’s Wanneroo Primary School colours, or just a happy accident, either way, it is a fun combo. Rushmore Green Toddler Playground in Bushmead is a brand new play area for small children. Located across from the WA Museum Boola Bardip is the Perth Cultural Centre Playspace, a quirky little play space which has a heavy focus on sensory play. The Playspace is fully fenced and gated and it is open daily from 8am – 7pm. The Kent St Weir area has just got even better with the newly opened Pump Track. The pump track is located on Kent St as you drive into the main car park area. Karrinyup Shopping Centre is home to Perth’s newest super playground! The Cubby is a 950sqm play space located at the new West Deck which is part of Karrinyup’s impressive $800 million redevelopment. Found within the Lloyd Penn Park, the playground named after local resident and former councillor Margaret Holland is a little gem in the Midland area. Nestled amongst the new Niche Living housing estate in Willetton is a brand new playground perfect for kids of any age. We went to check it out over the weekend and my kids (aged 2 and 6) loved it! Found besides the waters of Lake Claremont is a small, but lovely nature playground. The newish play area opened in July 2018 and has been designed for primary school aged kids, though little ones will love the sand play! The main fort structure is suitable for older kids, as it is made up of wooden steps and rope to climb up to the top. Sandy Beach Reserve is one of Bassendean’s most well-known natural open spaces. It now has one of the most impressive playgrounds I’ve seen. Sandy Beach Playspace has been created for children of all ages, with play equipment and nature elements for everyone to enjoy. Located at the end of West Road Bassendean, right on the Swan River, this large reserve area includes both open grassed areas and tree-shaded areas, with the original trees surrounding the playground. Found at the opposite end to the Piara Waters park, Explorer Park has a small, but action-packed playground to discover! Canning River Regional Park is a large park and wetlands area covering about 6kms located around the Canning River. We usually go to the Kent St Weir area which also has the Canning River Cafe there but recently we discovered another playground a short walk away. Opened September 2019, the simple Paxhill Park Nature Playground can provide hours of entertainment to children that love to be in the great outdoors and have a wild imagination. Mt Henry Bridge Reserve, Mount Pleasant Mount Henry Bridge Reserve is a multi-use recreation area on the river in Mount Pleasant. It is situated in the shadow of the Mt Henry Bridge, and has a great kids playground and an on-site cafe. The first thing we did on arriving was grab some lunch at the Kerbside Cafe. The new Palmerston Square playground in Bassendean is NOW OPEN and ready to be explored! The old playground equipment has been replaced by a beautiful wooden playground. In Dayton, there is a new playground on Arthur Street known as Dayton Neighboured Park. It is suitable for kids of all ages, with two primary play structures to choose from. Brabham has recently added a new park to Ariella estate, Ariella Adventure Park, and it’s absolutely delightful. The park features an awesome dragonfly play structure which consists of two rope climbing frames and one giant slide. The kids loved climbing up high at the top of the frame then walking along, before doing their best speed down the slide! It kept them entertained for ages! Masons Gardens in Dalkeith is a lovely neighbourhood park, with an art trail, play equipment and even a turtle habitat! If you head into the turtle pond area, you’re sure to spot a shy Oblong Turtle or two. The pond is fenced, with access through a couple of gates. William Henry Oval Caversham is situated nearby to Caversham Community Centre, and close to Suffolk Street before Colorino Avenue. John Oldham Park is a bit of a hidden gem and the last place you would expect alongside a busy freeway intersection so close to the city, but once you have found it you will often find that you have the place to yourself, except for the odd cyclist on the path down to the Mounts Bay Road. Wyong Reserve in Bentley is a great little park with a lot going on. The playground is fully fenced and has a pathway running around it that is designed as a road to ride scooters and bikes along. Morris Mundy Reserve is a lovely reserve in Kensington with basketball and netball hoop, cricket wickets, football goals, large green oval, picnic tables and a new shaded playground. The reserve backs onto houses on three sides although not fully fenced is fairly safe as it’s a long way between the playground equipment and the road.
