The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.
Hawaiian’s Mezz Playground, Mount Hawthorn Recently Hawaiian’s Mezz in Mount Hawthorn upgraded their children’s playground to a new nature play style setup. Found in a new inner city housing estate, Montario Playground in Shenton Playground is wonderful place to let the kids explore. There’s lots of fun and fantastical elements packed into this compact playground including some “Alice in Wonderland” style giant toadstools and even some giant eggs. The focus of the playground is a treehouse play structure, which has ropes and ladders to climb up to the top, and a big blue slide to take back town to the sand. The Mokare Reserve Adventure Playground has something to offer for all ages! Adults and kids will both enjoy climbing the 12m treehouse tower to reach the slide. Considering Wanneroo is built on old market garden land, it is very fitting that the recently upgraded Frederick Duffy Park is farming themed. This great little park has something for everyone. We had an absolute blast at Bathers Park, the newest addition to Alkimos Beach. Nestled alongside the Alkimos Beach foreshore, Bathers Park stretches across 2.5 hectares at the ocean end of Leatherback Boulevard. This vibrant beach-themed was an instant hit with my kids and completely captured their imaginations! The highlight of our visit was the impressive surf rescue play tower, soaring seven meters high. The UFO-inspired Bob Gordon Reserve Play Space is out-of-this-world fun! The fully fenced playground features everything from UFOs, swings, flying foxes, slides, and water play to all the essentials like toilets, BBQs, picnic shelters, shade and ample parking. We all know and love the beautiful Bells Rapids, but just a few Kilometres up the road is a peaceful spot known as Jumbuck Hill Park. Dazzle Park is a vibrant and colourful playground located at lluma Estate in Bennett springs. This unusual playground is situated within a hedge maze which we are sure will provide lots of extra fun once it matures. This playground is definitely one for the kids not afraid of heights. As of autumn 2022, Coventry Village in Morley now has a fenced outdoor playground. In addition to the existing indoor playground, this is located close to cafes and restaurants. There’s a new playground in Perth’s south! Found at The Links golf course in Port Kennedy, “The Nest” is a great spot for kids to play – particularly if they love golf. Part of the golf club’s redevelopment, it is found right opposite Birdie café and restaurant, making it a great spot for lunch with the family. Harborne Ruislip Playground, Wembley Harborne Ruislip Playground is a neat fenced park in Wembley. It may be small, but it’s packed with features kids will enjoy! The first thing that grabbed Miss 8’s attention was the wooden play structure. The main feature of the playground, it has a baby swing and a birds nest style swing. Dianella BMX Track As of July 2021, Dianella Regional Open Space now features a stunning new BMX track. Dianella BMX Track is naturally shaded and the perfect spot for kids of all ages to race off some energy. Stage One and Stage Two of the new track, built by City of Stirling, was completed in July. The Veterans Memorial Park Port Kennedy has something to suit the whole family, from tiny tots to teens! The large park includes two playgrounds, the new-ish Port Kennedy skate park and a memorial dedicated to our war veterans. The city of Rockingham’s largest skate park features lots of trails, bowls, ramps and an adjacent snake run. Though it’s very popular it’s large enough to ensure plenty of room. Jackadder Lake Playground is a picturesque park just north west of the city. This lovely lakeside spot features a shaded children’s playground, exercise equipment and paths perfect for bikes and scooters. As of the beginning of August 2023, the playground has been refreshed with new climbing equipment, a new and improved juniors area, and new picnic facilities.
