Pat O’Hara Reserve, Morley
As of June 2021 a new playground has been installed at Pat O’Hara Reserve in Morley. This fantastic new play area consists of traditional equipment, nature play elements and a new netball court adjacent to a huge oval. With all this, it’s a great park to take kids of all ages.
On arriving, Miss 7 dashed straight for the nature playground. The main part of this has wood chips as a base, which is great if you’re not a fan of sand. The nature play consists mainly of wood and rope equipment. There are logs to balance on, ladders to climb, and a sort of rope bridge.
The nature play ends with a wooden fort. This has a slide and a fireman’s pole to decent. This would be great for imaginative games! This whole section is naturally shaded for large, well established trees.
Where the old traditional playground once stood, there is now a new wooden playground. This has a sand base, has poles setup ready for shade sails in the summer, and is a bit more toddler friendly. There’s a birds nest swing, and rope ladders for climbing, and smaller balancing beams. Alternatively, why not bring down some digging toys or trucks?
A short walk down the path that cuts through the reserve, there is a brand new netball or basketball court. Miss 7 has just started netball training, and we kicked ourselves for forgetting her ball.
The netball court is adjacent to a huge oval. Perfect if you’ve got kids who love soccer, cricket or football and want to practise.
If you’ve packed a picnic lunch or snack and need to feed the kids, there’s a table available in addition to bench seating.
The only thing that seems to be missing at Pat O’Hara Reserve seems to be toilets. I’d suggest using the loo at the nearby McDonalds. This is temporarily closed. The playground is close however to Morley Galleria Shopping Centre. So it would be easy to enough to plan for a coffee and a toilet break there.
Overall, Pat O’Hara Reserve in Morley has a lot to keep the kids busy. There seems to be something for all ages. We’ll definitely be heading back for a play sometime.
