The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

McCallum Park is a large, but seemingly underused, park located near that difficult to negotiate junction between Shepperton Road and Canning Hwy. It’s accessed from Taylor St (off Canning Hwy) and there are plenty of parking spaces (some shaded) on both Taylor St. and the adjacent Garland St. Toilets (LHS) and parking on Taylor St. There are male and female toilets on both Taylor and Garland Streets and these were….well…what you would expect in a park. If you’re a parent to a toddler, a fenced and gated playground is a must! Allen Park in Swanbourne is a brilliant spot for wandering toddlers to play. The small sand-fall playground is partly shaded by mature trees. The traditional metal framed playground has lots of features to keep kids entertained. Herdsman Lake Regional Park is a great location for a family walk, play and picnic. There are 2 playgrounds around the lake, one at Glendalough Open Space and the other at Popeye Lake Parkland. Glendalough Open Space is a lovely little play area with parking directly next to it off the main road access. Found overlooking the Swan River and Fremantle’s bustling port, is the fantastic Tuckfield Oval playground where you might even spot a rainbow! The newish play area is in East Fremantle, near to the George Street coffee strip, is close to the iconic shipping container “rainbow” too. Just a hop, skip and jump across the road. Rushmore Green Toddler Playground in Bushmead is a brand new play area for small children. It’s a great spot for your small ones who aren’t quite large enough for the well-known Giant Park, which is located on the same road. After over four years in the making, the 9 million dollar redevelopment of Shirley Strickland Reserve is complete! The dog-friendly sporting reserve is now home to a state-of-the-art Sport and Community Pavilion, a fantastic nature playground, fitness equipment and cycle/walking paths. This shipwreck-themed playground which opened in March 2018 is one of twenty parks planned within the in the thriving Yanchep Golf Estate! Perfect for toddlers and kids under 10, it certainly ticks a lot of boxes, and this is only stage one of the two-hectare park. Rossiter Pavilion and Playing Fields in Piara Waters, in the Holland Park Estate, boasts a small playground packed with natureplay and adventure for curious, energetic kids. Just North of the river, nestled within the shade trees, is a nature park like no other! The Russell Brown Adventure Park in Mosman Park is located in Minim Cove, on the bank of the Swan River, just beyond the Mosman Park Tennis Club. Pioneer Park is an unusual playspace situated next to the Canning River in Gosnells. The playground is below street level and you enter via a ‘tree top’ long walkway which is pram friendly and great fun for scooting down. Watermans Bay Playground is a hidden treasure, set back off the main West Coast Drive over-looking the sea. You can easily miss the turning as it’s such a small off-road down to a car park for approximately 30 cars. Little Miss and I discovered it while out for a drive, and found its suitable for a range of ages and abilities, from toddlers upwards. The main play structure has two slides, and lots to climb. Burswood Park is located on the river near the Crown Hotel complex. You access it from Glenn Place and there is parking provided. If the small parking area near the park is full, there is other parking available within easy walking distance. It is a lovely park with manicured gardens, lots of open space and great views. At Carrington Park in Nedlands, a new playground has been installed. Yay! Don’t worry, Big Bertha is still there, shining as brightly as ever, New play equipment, new shades, new tables and chairs. The new playground is more toddler-friendly with shorter slides, smaller steps, a rocking frog and a crawling tunnel. Kids of all ages can still enjoy it nonetheless. This is a disability friendly playground for both able and less able bodied children. The play structure can be access by a wheelchair friendly ramp and features throughout the structure. Deep Water Point reserve in Mount Pleasant is a very popular spot for swimming, boating, water sports, picnics and birthday parties. Over the past year, this widely popular spot has undergone some extensive changes and the final stage is now complete and reopened in the last week. Robinson Reserve, Tuart Hill As of July 2019, Robinson Reserve in Tuart Hill has a new playground. Covered by shade sails, this play area is full of fun for kids from tots to teens. Tucked away off James Spiers Drive is Regent Waters Playground, a small suburban playground. The location borders on Lake Joondalup and is very peaceful and pretty with birdlife and clusters of shady trees. Regent Waters Playground is sandbased and surrounded by plenty of grass with three large sheltered picnic tables scattered at intervals. Frye Park or Pirate Park in Kelmscott is a great park which features a large pirate ship but also has a fenced toddler playground and picnic tables in the same area. The toddler area and picnic tables are covered with shade sails in summer. The pirate ship has plenty to do with three slides, climbing challenges and treasure hunts. Escarpment Park is a community playspace for local residents in Alkimos. The park is a large open playspace set in sand, grass and softfall. Suitable for kids 12months+ with some great pieces of play equipment for older kids. A pathway meanders around the park great for scooters and bikes. Today we discovered the newly opened pirate playground in Ellenbrook. It’s located on Verbana Drive near Cashman Avenue. It is fully fenced (although there are a few areas where little ones could escape in the space under the fencing), shaded and there is soft fall and well as sand within in the park.
