The brand new Byford Bike Pump Track and upgraded Byford Skate Park have arrived, and this spot is quickly becoming a must-visit destination for families in Perth’s south-east. We took our four children, aged 2, 4, 7 and 11, to check it out, and it delivered across every age group, which as any parent knows is no small feat.

The pump track itself has been thoughtfully designed with beginner, intermediate and advanced riding lines, making it genuinely accessible for riders at very different stages. Younger children can build confidence on the easier sections while older kids head straight for the more challenging loops. It is a wonderful way for children to develop balance, coordination and resilience, all while being active and outdoors.

Right alongside the pump track is the upgraded Byford Skate Park, which adds another layer of fun for older kids and teens.

But what really sets this location apart is that it is not just one activity, it is a full family destination. Within the same space you will also find a Playground for younger children, a Parkour Park for climbing and movement-based play, open green areas to run and explore, and an old basketball court, so bring a ball. There is also a youth centre on site, making this a genuinely well-rounded community space.

The whole area has been set up with families in mind. Practical amenities include water fountains, bins, ramp access, bench seating, picnic tables with chairs, and shaded areas. This provides everything you need to settle in for a longer visit while the kids keep themselves busy.

From a parent’s perspective, this was a really positive outing. All four of our children found something to enjoy, and we were able to stay in one location without needing to constantly redirect or entertain. From a teacher’s lens, it is also a great example of play-based learning in action, where risk-taking, resilience, physical development and social interaction were all naturally unfolding through play. Most importantly, they did not want to leave.

If you are looking for a free, active and engaging outdoor space that caters to a wide range of ages, Byford Bike Pump Track and Briggs Park Reserve is absolutely worth the trip. It is one of those spots that makes getting kids outside feel easy and enjoyable for the whole family.
