The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Partridge Way Reserve in Thornlie boasts some excellent equipment. This park is suited to kids aged 3 and up as the climbing frames are quite large. There is an obstacle course for older kids to try out their strength and coordination. If you like to play sports then there is a basketball hoop, cricket pitch and plenty of lawn area to set up on. Botany Park located in Hammond Park has just undergone a fantastic upgrade. It is now toddler-friendly fully fenced with various pool gate entry points. The original playground equipment still exists and features a bumpy slide, rock climbing wall, twisty ladder and swing seats. The Esplanade Youth Plaza in Fremantle is a family-friendly, inner-city hangout located at the southeastern corner of Fremantle’s Esplanade Reserve. Costing $1.6million to develop, the Plaza opened in April 2014. The Esplanade Youth Plaza features a world-class skate park catering for skaters of all abilities with its long continuous street run and other elements such as stair sets, hubbas, rails and gaps. The Mokare Reserve Adventure Playground has something to offer for all ages! Adults and kids will both enjoy climbing the 12m treehouse tower to reach the slide. Just around the corner from the Alexander Heights IGA, is Lemongrass Park, a lovely shaded playground with traditional equipment and some nature play elements. One of the main features that caught our eye was the rope equipment. The Perry Lakes Reserve is a 200 acre nature reserve found on the eastern edge of the larger Bold Park reserve in Floreat. There are two playgrounds here, set amongst beautiful trees, large grassed areas and two lakes. The older playground on the western side of the reserve is shaded by trees, it also has the extra sun protection of shade sails throughout. Then you have to bring them down to Radiata Park at Aubin Grove to give them a taste of the ninja warrior-style obstacle course! Burns Beach Foreshore Playground is a little hidden gem of a family play area. Don’t be mistaken with this playground and the Burns Beach Cafe Playground, yes there are two playgrounds! Orangutan Park in Golden Bay is a welcome addition to the area and provides a fantastic green open space and cool new play park. It is in keeping with the other play parks on the development which gives it that distinctive Golden Bay feel. The small but mighty nature-based Jurien Bay Oval Playground at the Jurien Sport and Recreation Centre has to be Perth’s most unique playground! The playground was brought to life by the same team who built the very popular Jurien Bay Foreshore Playground and is inspired by the home of Jurien Bay’s local football club, the Bulldogs. Banks Reserve is located in Mouth Lawley on the banks of the Swan River, the play space is bearly recognisable after an extensive redevelopment. The new nature-based playground has been cleverly designed around the huge preexisting trees which offer plenty of shade! Holland Park in Piara Waters is yet another brilliant playground in the popular family suburb. There’s lots of elements packed into this park including nature play, as well as a fun fort! The wooden play equipment is built on woodchip, giving the space a rustic vibe and there’s a sandpit too. If you’re looking for somewhere near the beach for coffee and a play date, Coogee Beach Playground, with its ship themed play structure, could be just the place for you. The structure itself is mainly wooden with a sand pit base and features a wavy slide and rope ladders. There’s a rope bridge, a telescope and portholes to look through as well as an alphabet and numbers game. Based on the height of the playground, I’d say this one is for kids two and over. Masons Gardens in Dalkeith is a lovely neighbourhood park, with an art trail, play equipment and even a turtle habitat! If you head into the turtle pond area, you’re sure to spot a shy Oblong Turtle or two. The pond is fenced, with access through a couple of gates. Sandow Park is a little gem of a park is hidden away in Clarkson. It’s located on the corner of Marmion Ave and Hester Ave but you wouldn’t know it from within the park itself. It’s set downhill and behind trees hiding most of the traffic and ensuring that children and pets can’t dash onto busy roads. It’s a small local park, with no barbecues, shelters or toilets but it’s got some of our favourite play equipment. Tucked away in the heart of Gosnells, amongst 22 hectares of wetlands at Mary Carroll Park, you’ll find the brand new all-abilities playground. We love this little park. Situated in the new Vertex Estate in Yanchep lies a small but great park for young ones. There is a large wooden climbing frame featuring different options to get to the top including a rock wall, wooden steps, ropes and more. Found on the corner of Moresby St and South Tce in Kensington is Moresby Street Reserve, a great park as it is mostly fenced (the entrance is not gated), encourages imaginative play and has some open grass space too. Across the road on Moresby St is the kid friendly Hoopla Cafe so grab a takeaway or enjoy sitting in before or after your play. Russell Street Park is a new ninja warrior style park that just opened in the heart Morley. If you’ve got older kids who love to run, jump and climb, this park is made for them! Barwon Park Craigiesituated in the family-friendly suburb of Craigie, Barwon Park Craigie has a great mixture of play equipment and green space to keep most active kids busy. On our visit, my Miss 3 immediately headed to the wood chip area first. This is a good spot for toddlers and kids who like imaginative play. It features a tunnel to crawl through, noughts and crosses, an abacus, and a playhouse with seating. Peet Park in Kewdale has recently had an upgrade with brand new playground equipment. The new equipment is suitable for all ages and includes three slides, lots of climbing fun, see-saw and merry-go-round. There are also swings, including one toddler swing. All the equipment is on bright colourful soft fall base and was shaded nicely by large trees. Adventurescape is a $3.5 million farm-themed playground located next to the existing two hectare lake in the Satterley Austin Lakes Estate, South Yunderup. Adventurescape features so many fun and interesting pieces of play equipment that we are sure that is will be a big hit with the local community and visitors to the region. Kalamunda’s Stirk Park was a favourite of mine, back in the 80s when I was growing up in the Perth Hills. The park has long been a popular location for mothers group get-togethers and family picnics. The snazzy new playground and skate park at Stirk Park has just opened (Nov 2023) after a long-awaited redevelopment. A block from the Daglish Train Station, tucked away down a suburban street is a brilliant new playground. The teeny tiny Jersey Street Playground in Jolimont packs a big punch with great traditional equipment and nature play that will keep kids aged from about 3 years and up entertained. Millet Park, Innaloo Around the corner, not far away from busy Westfield Innaloo, is Millet “Spider-Man” Park. This green leafy park features climbing equipment, a small traditional playground, and now a skate facility and junior bike track. There’s something for everyone! Mardalup Playground is a popular location in East Perth for family picnics as it’s right on the banks of the Swan River, opposite Optus Stadium. Mardalup is a Nyungar term meaning ‘place of small marsupial’. Today we tried out the new playground at Richardson Park in South Perth, just near the Perth Zoo. We found it to have a good range of equipment for a range of ages and it backs onto a large expanse of grass for ball games or running around. The park is small and narrow but packed with equipment including musical pipes, stainless steel drums, talk tubes, lots of climbing and a big slide. It is a sand based playground. Alkimos Park is situated in a newly established family suburb estate, north of Butler (NOR). The park offers school-aged kids lots of nature play equipment as well as some interesting items I’ve not seen in other parks yet. Alkimos Park is a mix of sand and soft fall with a main wooded climbing structure, nets and slide. Robert Thompson Reserve is a large grassy park located opposite the Noranda Village Shopping Centre. In the centre of this lovely park is a playground with equipment to suit most children.
