Looking for a relaxing Saturday activity where little ones can play, explore and get a little bit grubby while you shop for some of the best local produce? Perth City Farm in East Perth is a lovely family-friendly spot to check out with its nature playground a great new addition for families with young children.
Set among the gardens of the half-hectare urban farm, the nature playground sits right next to the entrance. The playground here fits beautifully with the character of the farm. Rather than feeling like a big purpose-built playground, it feels like an extension of the outdoor environment- surrounded by greenery and plenty of little spots for little ones to explore.
Here, children can find a sand pit, a little tractor, a slide, a chalkboard, and plenty of sensory play equipment.
These are perfect for little ones to climb, run around and explore while parents stay close by. It is definitely the sort of playground that children can use their imagination and enjoy themselves- no wonder there is a sign that says “This way to enchanted forest”!
But there is more to do than just the playground here. Little ones who are naturally curious will find plenty to see here- from the gardens to the different sights and sounds around the farm.

For us, the best thing about Perth City Farm is that the farm itself is the attraction.
Take a wander through the gardens and farm to see what is growing, how they do compost, and say hello to the chickens! It is a nice opportunity for children to see where some of their food comes from and learn a little about growing and sustainability along the way.
The weekly farmers market is something you don’t want to miss as it is one of those spots that feels more like a little community gathering than your typical market. Perth City Farm’s farmers market brings together local growers, makers, and producers passionate about ethical and sustainable food. Here you will find organic, biodynamic and spray-free seasonal fruits and veggies, fresh bread, honey, pantry staples, seafood and meat produce alongside local artisan goods.

And of course, no Saturday market outing is complete without a coffee and something to eat. The on-site Be Free Café is open during the market, serving up breakfast and treats.
We love that the Saturday market does not feel rushed. You can browse the stalls, let the children explore the farm, have a play at the playground and enjoy a slow breakfast before heading home with a basket full of fresh local produce.
