Carine Open Space Playground remains a much‑loved local gem for families, dog walkers and young riders, with plenty of space to explore and play. Set within the broader Carine Open Space reserve on Davallia Road, it’s the kind of place where you can easily spend a whole morning or afternoon, especially if you bring scooters, bikes and the family dog.

A big drawcard is the network of paths that loop around the main Playground area and wetlands. The paved pedestrian path is smooth and flat, making it great for prams, scooters and little kids gaining confidence on their bikes. As you head further out, the path becomes more of a dirt track, but it’s still manageable for most wheels and perfect for families who like a gentle explore rather than a full bushwalk. The flat terrain is particularly handy if you’ve got a toddler learning to ride without training wheels – there are no big hills to battle.

Nature lovers will enjoy the abundance of wildlife around the Carine Open Space swamp and lake. It’s common to spot a variety of birdlife and the odd reptile sunning itself, so it’s a good chance to chat with kids about respecting wildlife and sticking to the paths. With open grassed areas surrounding the wetlands, it’s also an easy spot to throw down a picnic blanket while the kids run around or kick a ball.

The Playground itself is best accessed from Okely Road, where you’ll find plenty of allocated parking. The main play area is a mix of sand and asphalt-based surfaces. Do keep in mind that the darker hard surfaces can heat up on very sunny days, so it’s wise to pack shoes for little feet in summer. Shade is provided by both shade sails (installed over the warmer months) and mature trees around the edge of the Playground, offering some respite on hot afternoons.

For younger children, there’s a lovely circular sandpit zone that works beautifully for toddler play. It’s the perfect spot to bring diggers, trucks, buckets and dinosaurs for imaginative fun.

Thoughtfully, there are several benches positioned around this area, so parents and carers can sit close by while still keeping an eye on the action. The main play structure features a tall curly slide that’s a hit with older kids; however, it is easily accessed via different climbing points, so close supervision is recommended for more adventurous toddlers.

Accessibility has clearly been considered in the design, with a disability ramp allowing wheelchair users and prams to access the main play frame. This inclusive feature means more children can enjoy exploring the structure together, making it a friendlier spot for families with varying needs.

Adjacent to the main play frame is another sand-based play area with rope climbing equipment. The “spiderman” style climbing ropes and rope monkey bars suit confident climbers and school-aged kids who love a challenge. There are also two swings, including a toddler seat, so siblings of different ages can all get in on the fun. The variety of equipment, from gentle sand play to more physical rope climbs, means the Playground works well for a broad age range.

A short stroll from the main Playground you’ll find the Carine Open Space Skate Park. While not huge, it’s a proper skate facility and will feel fairly advanced to beginners. Older children and teens will love practising tricks and watching others ride, and you’ll often see younger but very capable riders showing off their skills too. Helmets are a must, and it’s a good idea to bring extra safety gear if your child is still learning. Being slightly removed from the main Playground keeps the skate area from overwhelming families with toddlers, but it’s close enough that you can walk over easily if you’ve got kids spread between play and skating.

Carine Open Space is also popular for weekend sport, dog walking and casual fitness, so it can get busy at peak times. That said, the area is large enough that it rarely feels overcrowded, and there’s usually space to find a quiet corner for a picnic or a scoot.
Overall, Carine Open Space Playground offers a great combination of traditional play equipment, accessible features, skate facilities and wide open spaces. Whether you’re there for a quick play after school, a weekend scooter session around the paths, or a longer family outing with the dog in tow, it’s a versatile, family‑friendly destination in Perth’s northern suburbs.
