Anthony Waring Park in Clarkson is a brilliant all‑rounder for families needing to “just get everybody out of the house” – fur babies included. Set in a quiet pocket of Somerly, the park combines loads of open space, a much‑loved bike track and two separate play areas that suit both younger and older children, all framed by tall eucalypts that give the whole reserve a calm, bushy feel.

Locals often head straight for the bike track, which loops through the trees and makes a fun circuit for confident riders. The surface is quite crumbly and well‑worn, which kids tend to love for the extra bumps and crunch, but it does mean bikes are a better option than scooters. Along the way there’s plenty of opportunity for nature play, with fallen branches, sticks, leaves and gum nuts scattered around for kids to build, create and explore.

Families with a mix of ages are well catered for here. One play zone is designed for younger children and is set in sand with shade overhead, making it a comfortable spot on hot days. Little ones can dig and potter in the sandpit, have a swing, clamber in and out of the play bus and zoom down the mini twin slide. Everything is close together, so carers can sit nearby and easily keep track of toddlers and pre‑schoolers as they move between activities and imaginative games.

Right next door, the second play area steps things up for bigger kids. This is where Anthony Waring Park earns its nickname as the “Spider‑Man Park” – a web of rope climbers invites children to scramble, hang and test their balance as they move from section to section without touching the ground. There are bars and climbing elements for monkey‑bar practice and upper‑body strength, and plenty of scope for school‑aged kids to challenge themselves and burn off energy while still being close enough for adults to supervise both play spaces at once.

Sporty families and dog owners will appreciate the huge grassed oval that stretches alongside the Playgrounds. It’s ideal for a casual kick of the footy, a game of cricket, running laps while the kids play, or taking the dog for a wander – just check local signage for any leash or dog‑exercise rules. The oval is also a hub of community sport, hosting Auskick in winter and cricket in the summer months, so weekends can be very busy with training and match days, while weekdays and after‑school times are generally more peaceful.

On the facilities side, Anthony Waring Park is well set up for regular use. There is ample parking around the reserve, and toilets are available on site, typically open between 6am and 8pm. The park also includes the Anthony Waring Clubrooms, a community facility with a multipurpose room, adjoining kitchen, external toilets and changerooms, which are used by local sports clubs and can be booked through the City of Wanneroo for community activities and events,

Anthony Waring Park’s location makes it easy to weave into everyday family life. It’s just a short drive from Ocean Keys Shopping Centre, so you can let the kids go hard on the Playground or bike track, then swing past the shops to grab dinner on the way home. With its mix of nature, play equipment, bike fun, sporting facilities and dog‑friendly open space, this Clarkson favourite is a handy go‑to park for local families and a great option for meeting friends from nearby suburbs.
