Tucked within the Niche Living housing estate in Willetton, Woodthorpe Reserve is a compact but well‑designed neighbourhood park that caters to a wide range of ages. Set just off Portcullis Drive, it offers a good mix of traditional play favourites and more modern nature‑play style elements, all in a layout that makes it easy to keep an eye on your kids.

The main play space features a selection of climbing, sliding and balancing equipment. Kids can test their balance on wooden stepping logs and low beams or tackle the rope climbing frame for a bit more of a challenge. There are tunnels and slides to whizz down, plus see‑saws that have that classic “old school” Playground feel parents will recognise from their own childhoods.

Swing lovers are catered for with a set of swings; however, families with very young children should note there is currently no toddler bucket swing, so this area suits more confident sit‑on swingers.

One of the standout features for younger children is the imaginative play area. A cute “corner store” structure invites endless make‑believe games – it easily transforms into a café, shop or ice‑cream stand, depending on what your little one dreams up.

Nearby, an oversized “four in a row” game is built into the Playground, which is a fun way for kids (and adults!) to play together and take a breather between running, climbing and sliding.

Around the main play equipment is a smooth track that’s ideal for scooters or small bikes, making this a great spot to bring wheels. The surrounding grassed area is generous enough for ball games, cartwheels or just laying out a picnic blanket. Families planning a longer visit can take advantage of the shaded picnic tables and built‑in BBQs, making it a handy location for an easy park catch‑up or weekend sausage sizzle.

There’s also a concrete ping pong table, which adds a nice extra activity for older kids, tweens and teens. Bring your own bats and balls so you can make use of it, as none are supplied on site.
The overall design of the Playground makes supervision straightforward. The space is open and easy to scan, with very few blind spots, which is particularly helpful if you’re managing siblings who want to do different activities at once. At the time of the original visit, shade sails had not yet been installed over the play equipment. If this is still the case, you may want to plan your outing for cooler parts of the day and bring hats, sunscreen and plenty of water.
Woodthorpe Reserve is best suited to local families or those visiting friends in the area who are looking for a clean, modern and easy‑to‑supervise park where kids can enjoy a bit of everything – role play, climbing, swinging, wheeling around the scooter track and simple ball games on the grass.
