Morris Mundy Reserve is a lovely reserve in Kensington with basketball and netball hoop, cricket wickets, football goals, large green oval, picnic tables and a new shaded playground. The reserve backs onto houses on three sides although not fully fenced is fairly safe as it’s a long way between the playground equipment and the road.
The playground is shaded by shade sails and large well-established tree. I could only see one picnic table but we put down a picnic rug under the tree shade and it was lovely.
Along the back of the playground, there is a combination swing set with a toddler swing, normal swing and birds nest swing. There is a small bouncy animal and a rotanet. In the middle, there is some music making equipment and noughts and crosses game.
The main structure is linked through from one end to the other with a rope bridge, wooden steps and monkey bars, it has three slides, plenty of climbing, fireman pole, fort and platform and areas underneath for imaginative shop play. My daughter particularly liked the climbing frame end with the spider climber and monkey bars.
The larger slide was accessed by the rope bridge or cargo climbing frame. Also at this end was the fireman’s pole. Most of the kids at the park when we were there were around 4 plus and were managing the rope bridge, yellow disc steps and the moving wooden chain bridge fairly well. Younger children may struggle with these and would probably be suited to the smaller double slide that was accessed by steps or a small climbing wall.
The playground is sand based and there is plenty of space between the equipment for some sand play. There is also plenty of room on the grass for ball games, frisbee or just running around.
Morris Mundy Reserve
Located on Oxford St in Kensington, there is a small carpark.
The reserve is a dog expertise area but dogs must be kept out of the playground. There are no toilets at the reserve, which is probably its only downside.
