Margaret River is a popular West Aussie destination for families who love nature, adventure, and of course, excellent food and drinks! There are plenty of things to do in Margaret River with kids, from exploring caves and beaches to meeting animals and getting lost in a giant maze. And no trip to Margs is complete without enjoying locally made food at a chocolate or cheese factory. Here are the best family-friendly activities in Margaret River:
Margaret River Attractions
Margaret River Caves
There are many spectacular caves in Margaret River. Mammoth Cave has a self-guided cave tour with audio commentary walking you through the chambers. You’ll spot ancient fossils, stalactites, and stalagmites, and learn about the history and geology of the cave. Find out more about this and other Margaret River caves in our blog.
Amaze’n Margaret River
Get lost (and found) at Amaze’n, the giant Margaret River hedge maze! Trust me, Amaze’n is a fun attraction for kids and adults alike. As well as the fun (and enormous) hedge maze which has 1.5 kilometres of pathways, there are smaller mazes, puzzles, mini golf, a playground and a café too. Find out more in our blog.
Eagles Heritage Wildlife Centre
See amazing birds of prey at Eagles Heritage Wildlife Centre. Eagles Heritage is Australia’s largest raptor rehabilitation centre, where you can see eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, and other birds of prey up close. Walk through the aviaries and learn about their conservation efforts, or watch a flying display where you can see the jaw-dropping birds in action. Find out more in our blog.
WOW Illusions
If you are looking for a fun and quirky way to spend your day in Margaret River, look no further than WOW Illusions. This place will make the whole family question their senses, as you explore a world of weird and wonderful illusions. You can grow big or small in the blink of an eye, have your head served on a platter, or relieve yourself in the wackiest toilets in the southern hemisphere. At the café, enjoy coffee and cake, or mix your own ice cream and muesli. Find out more in our blog.
Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse
Climb Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia! Found at the most south-westerly point of the country, here you can join a guided tour and climb to the top of the lighthouse. You’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the coast where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet. You may even spot whales or dolphins if you are lucky. Find out more in our blog.
Margaret River Beaches
Soak up the sun and sand at a Margaret River Beach! The often calm Gnarabup Beach is one of the best beaches in Margaret River for families. A trip to the “River Mouth” is a good idea for beach lovers and sightseers alike. Here you’ll get a choice of swimming in the river, or ocean and you may spot the sculpture amongst the rockpools too. Or why not say G’day to the friendly stingrays at Hamelin Bay. This beach hamlet is home to a caravan park and a beautiful beach.
Foodie Experiences
Love chocolate, nougat, olive oil, preserves, ice cream, candy, cheese or coffee? You can taste-test your way through the yummiest makers of Margaret River. The iconic Margaret River Chocolate Factory is a must-stop for a hot chocolate or slab of chocolate cake, whilst the adults will love to sip on a Yahava Coffee. No trip to Cow-Town is complete without stops at Candy Cow or Millers Ice Cream! And be sure to stock up on freshly picked local produce at the Margaret River Farmers Market.
Playgrounds in Margaret River
Margaret River Rotary Park
There are a few playgrounds in the Margaret River area, other than those epic spots at breweries and wineries! Just before you cross the river, on the edge of the town, is the popular Rotary Park. Kids will love ‘Old Kate’, the old steam train. The shady spot has plenty of play equipment, a forest bush track, plus BBQs, picnic tables, and toilets. Find out more in our blog.
Margaret River Skate Park
Be sure to pack the skateboards, scooters and bikes, as the skatepark at Margs is pretty epic! The inclusive skate facilities suit beginners and experienced riders alike. There’s a nature-play style adventure playground too. Amenities include BBQs, toilets, a kiosk and shaded spaces. Find out more in our blog.
