The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Jubilee Reserve, Eden Hill Jubilee Reserve is a multi-use reserve with a great playground located in Eden Hill. With play equipment suitable for toddlers to tweens, this shaded, sand-free playground is sure to be a hit. On arrival, Miss 4.5 bolted straight for the climbing ropes. Did you know that there’s a nature play area in the Perth foothills suburb of Bushmead. While it’s much smaller than the estate’s “Giant Park”, the simple Ridge Hill Green Nature Playground can provide plenty of entertainment for children that love to be in the great outdoors and love to climb. Let the games begin! If your kids love little athletics they’ll absolutely love Pegasus Park in Bennett Springs!!! The Olympic themed play space which opened in late February 2018 is completely different from any other playground in Perth, it includes a range of kids’ activities inspired by little athletics, with plenty of space to kick a ball, swing a bat or shoot hoops. Sometimes small parks deliver a big play and this is the case at Copley Reserve Belmont. We recently stumbled across this small park which is located near the shops on Kooyong Rd Belmont. Copley Reserve Belmont is very much part of the community as the park has a small community garden at the edge and the pathways lead through housing to further grassed areas and benches. In the middle of Victoria Park along busy Albany Hwy you will find Read Park. It is a lovely green, shady park situated next to the Victoria Park Community garden. The play equipment has been situated away from the highway and one of the play areas is enclosed with a fence. The small but mighty nature-based Jurien Bay Oval Playground at the Jurien Sport and Recreation Centre has to be Perth’s most unique playground! The playground was brought to life by the same team who built the very popular Jurien Bay Foreshore Playground and is inspired by the home of Jurien Bay’s local football club, the Bulldogs. Cimbrone Circuit Park is a small yet mighty suburban playground located in the brand new Salita Estate in Landsdale. The play equipment caters for both big and little kids. The Salita Tower definitely isn’t for the fainthearted! The adventurous a-frame tower features climbing nets, a wooden ladder, an elevated birds nest and a cubby/lookout. Beecroft Park is found opposite Empire Village Shopping Centre in City Beach and is popular with local families. The playground is sand fall based and naturally shaded by mature trees, as well as shade sails. The sand is littered with a lot of leaf and sticks, so little ones may prefer to keep their shoes on. Pine Park is a hidden gem in Darlington, in the Perth Hills. I grew up in the hills and my parents still live there. On today’s visit we thought we’d try somewhere different to the usual park. I’m glad we did, it was a very pleasant morning and more importantly little Miss had a great time. It is a small playground with a castle theme. The brand new $1.4 million Lottery-West funded Whale Playground has opened up at Scarborough Beach. The playground is inspired by Noongar culture and features a blue whale skeleton as its main theme. Rotary Park in Wanneroo is one of our favourite playgrounds, the park originally opened in 1979 since then the space has undergone major developments and has been really well cared for by the City of Wanneroo. We especially love the diverse range of equipment and different play opportunity for kids of all ages. JH Abrahams Reserve is a great park and playground located on the Swan River in Crawley. There is a shaded playground area, plenty of grass space for running and ball games, picnic tables, BBQs, drinking fountains, toilets and great views. There is a bike/walk path along the river if you want to include a walk or ride. The river is below the river wall and quite a distance from the playground. Deep Water Point Park has everything you could possibly want for a mums playgroup meet-up, coffee & cake with friends or on your own, stroll next to the river, family BBQ or family breakfast/lunch/dinner. John Tonkin Reserve is found on the banks of the Swan River in East Fremantle. It’s a lovely spot for a family picnic, with lots of shade from mature trees and picnic shelters. There are BBQs, picnic tables and park benches found in the park. There’s a large boat themed sand fall playground, which is shaded by sails in warmer months. We had an absolute blast at Bathers Park, the newest addition to Alkimos Beach. Nestled alongside the Alkimos Beach foreshore, Bathers Park stretches across 2.5 hectares at the ocean end of Leatherback Boulevard. This vibrant beach-themed was an instant hit with my kids and completely captured their imaginations! The highlight of our visit was the impressive surf rescue play tower, soaring seven meters high. Riverton Jetty playground is located next to the Lo Quay River Cafe in Wilson. Riverton Jetty playground is a nature based playground that features 2 slides, 2 swings, a spinning rope frame, a hammock swing and lots of different balance/walking challenges. Lake Monger is now home to an exciting new adventure playground! The playground has been specifically designed for children over the age of 5 who love a challenge! Pitstop Playground is located at Discovery Park, Banksia Grove and it’s pretty special – in fact I’ve not seen anything like it! The central theme of Pitstop Playgrounds, if you haven’t already guessed it, is racing. It has a great racing track that twists and turns around the park complete with Pitstop area where you can chalk your names up on the blackboards and race each other. Whiteman Park Dog Park is a little known secret among the dog community The fully fenced and grassed 2.5-hectare playground has a doggie obstacle course and plenty of natural shade from mature trees. Clarko Reserve is a coastal reserve located at Trigg Beach at the end of Karrinyup Road. The jewel colours of the verdant green grass and shimmering blue sea beyond the dunes is a feast for the eyes. At a sheltered end of the reserve, near the beach car park, is a good sized playground with equipment to suit a range of children. Aviary Creek Park is a fun and creative play space in the growing suburb of Aveley. The one-of-a-kind playground has been built around two natural lakes and the main feature is a giant water wheel with twisting tunnel slides! Found besides the waters of Lake Claremont is a small, but lovely nature playground. The newish play area opened in July 2018 and has been designed for primary school aged kids, though little ones will love the sand play! The main fort structure is suitable for older kids, as it is made up of wooden steps and rope to climb up to the top. Northern Parklands is a brand new playground as part of a redevelopment in Bentley. The parklands were created with the input of local school children and teachers and the outcome was a play space that is quite different from the norm. There’s a street games strip which is such a great idea and includes hopscotch, noughts and crosses, basketball and netball, a climbing frame mini obstacle course and mini skateboarding course. The Manning Community Hub opened in early 2017 and includes two new play areas. The “Hub” is located on the edge of James Miller Oval so there is also plenty of open grass to run and play on. We met some friends there for a morning play. The kids decided they wanted to try the playground on the far side of the oval first so they were off across the grass. If you’re looking for somewhere near the beach for coffee and a play date, Coogee Beach Playground, with its ship themed play structure, could be just the place for you. The structure itself is mainly wooden with a sand pit base and features a wavy slide and rope ladders. There’s a rope bridge, a telescope and portholes to look through as well as an alphabet and numbers game. Based on the height of the playground, I’d say this one is for kids two and over. Jackadder Lake Reserve is a lovely family park ideal for a morning or afternoon of fun play and scooting/cycling around the beautiful lake and spotting the wildlife. The playground is suitable for kids of all age and is set in a mixture of sand and soft play flooring. Kids can enjoy wiggly slides, straight slides, and curly slides all of which aren’t particularly steep so great for the toddlers. A few years ago I wrote the original blog on Pioneer Avon Park, which is located on banks of Avon River in York, fast forward to 2020 the park is unrecognisable! The playground is nature-based and features recycled timber seating throughout, sheltered picnic tables, BBQs, toilets and plenty of shade! Rutter Park, Wembley Rutter Park located in the heart of Wembley features traditional equipment and nature play elements. It will appeal to toddlers to big kids and is packed with things to do. Ivy Watson Playground in Kings Park is a great playground built specifically for 6 year olds and under. The area is fenced but it is large with several different play areas and can get very busy so you’ll need to keep an eye on your little ones. The playground is accessible via Kings Park Road with plenty of parking available.
