The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Just 5 minutes drive from Garden City Shopping Centre, atop Wireless Hill, is a beautiful is Wireless Hill Nature Playspace. We arrived in the middle of the day, and amazingly the play area is naturally shaded by the surrounding trees, even at noon. Frederick Stubbs Park is a small park right on the coast in Quinns Rocks. It offers a small grassed area and a playground set on sand. The playground has a limestone retaining wall/steps, which along with the hill, would slow down any dashes towards the road which is nearby. Located just around Harrisdale Nature Reserve, Harrisdale Green Sensory Park is the all-new interactive sensory park for children of all abilities at the new Harrisdale Green Estate. Point Fraser Foreshore Reserve is a must visit if you’re heading into the city for the day with older kids. The equipment in this park is more suited towards school-aged children due to the equipment and steep hills around the landscape of the park. We made our journey to the Point Fraser Reserve directly from the city, it’s very easy to find if you just follow the river edge. Just down the road from Waldecks Stirling is a neat little playground on a leafy street, is Candella Square Playground. This is a well maintained small playground. The main playground structure includes a twisty slide, a curved flying fox, a wooden climbing wall, a climbing pole as well as the usual steps and ladders. Watermans Bay Playground is a hidden treasure, set back off the main West Coast Drive over-looking the sea. You can easily miss the turning as it’s such a small off-road down to a car park for approximately 30 cars. John MacMillan Park next to the library in Victoria Park has just reopened with a brand new nature playground, basketball courts, open grass and more. The new equipment has been designed around the lovely trees giving it a nice combination of natural shade and shade sails. There are toilets conveniently located behind the basketball area. Nestled in the heart of Dianella is the lovely Wake Pola Reserve. This parkland has a good sized playground with shade sails and natural shading. The playground features a large play structure with two slides, a noughts and crosses game, shop front, fireman pole and flying fox. Carlindie Park is a fairly new park snuggled in between Glenburg Drive and Carlindie Parkway, Golden Bay. There are plenty of open spaces and nature for your little ones to discover. Escarpment Park is a community playspace for local residents in Alkimos. The park is a large open playspace set in sand, grass and softfall. Suitable for kids 12months+ with some great pieces of play equipment for older kids. A pathway meanders around the park great for scooters and bikes. We discovered this great little park just around the corner from Little Banksia Cafe in Kensington. It has a lot of features including a nature play area and playground. The main play area is covered with shade sails and the nature play area is shaded naturally. The afternoon we went was warm so the natural shade and trees around the park were lovely. Fantasy Park at Waikiki is a large accessible park with plenty of play areas for kids to explore, a sensory garden with animal sculptures, a dog friendly park and also the home to Rockingham’s only disc golf course. It felt like we were walking into a fortress at first. There are two playgrounds located near the entrance, just alongside one another. At our weekly shop on Saturday we were very excited to see that Floreat Forum shopping centre has just opened a new playground in the outdoor area by the cafes/restaurants. Previously there had just been a couple of small things for toddlers to play on but now there is a proper playground complete with shade sails. The Kent St Weir area has just got even better with the newly opened Pump Track. The pump track is located on Kent St as you drive into the main car park area. The last few times we have visited the area the car park has been full and parking has overflowed to the adjoining streets. My kids and I visit a lot of playgrounds… but the brand new Wandi Playing Fields Playground is hands down our favourite playground in Perth (big call right!) – while there is no crazy slide or huge tower, there is lots of different play areas and something for kids of all ages and abilities! JH Abrahams Reserve is a great park and playground located on the Swan River in Crawley. There is a shaded playground area, plenty of grass space for running and ball games, picnic tables, BBQs, drinking fountains, toilets and great views. There is a bike/walk path along the river if you want to include a walk or ride. The river is below the river wall and quite a distance from the playground. Cimbrone Circuit Park is a small yet mighty suburban playground located in the brand new Salita Estate in Landsdale. The play equipment caters for both big and little kids. The Salita Tower definitely isn’t for the fainthearted! The adventurous a-frame tower features climbing nets, a wooden ladder, an elevated birds nest and a cubby/lookout. This shipwreck-themed playground which opened in March 2018 is one of twenty parks planned within the in the thriving Yanchep Golf Estate! Robert Thompson Reserve is a large grassy park located opposite the Noranda Village Shopping Centre. In the centre of this lovely park is a playground with equipment to suit most children. Frye Park or Pirate Park in Kelmscott is a great park which features a large pirate ship but also has a fenced toddler playground and picnic tables in the same area. Today we tried out the new playground at Richardson Park in South Perth, just near the Perth Zoo. We found it to have a good range of equipment for a range of ages and it backs onto a large expanse of grass for ball games or running around. A great place to stop in whilst travelling north, Wangaree Park in the centre of Lancelin has everything you need for the perfect pit-stop. There is a great playground with equipment for all ages, that is shaded by huge trees. To one side of the playground it some new fitness equipment. The newly completed Lions Park is a race track/road inspired park. It is only a small park but if you have a little one who is learning to scoot or ride this would be a good park to practice at. Just a short 5 minute walk from Ngarkal Beach and the Port Coogee water park in the new Parkside Retreat estate, you will find this lovely local playground. The slide is attached to an up-ended sea container that has 2 ways of climbing to the top. You can go around to the back and climb the outside to the door.
