The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Stage 1 of the 3.6 ha Campground Adventure Park recently opened in December 2015. It is located on the corner of Summerhome Parade and Campground Road in the Beachside precinct of Capricorn Yanchep, in the far northern suburbs of Perth. Hardcastle Park, Landsdale Located in family-friendly Landsdale, Hardcastle Park is a delightful new playground for kids of all ages. Featuring nature play, tradition play equipment and a picnic space, it’s a great space to hang out with the family. On arriving, I was first struck by the large grassed area. Located at Webber Reserve is a unique nature based playspace designed to inspire kids to imagine, invent and create. The playspace is located in the far corner of the reserve and is naturally shaded by the nearby trees. Located on the north-west corner of Leatherback Oval in Alkimos Beach is a brand new Bike Safety Course that is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages! Cantwell Park in Pinjarra is a brilliant stop on a road trip to WA’s south west. The massive park is right in the heart of the town, on the banks of the Murray River. Royal Lockwood Reserve is a new fenced playground that has opened in Yokine as of the end of November 2017. It is a great mix of nature play and traditional play equipment. On entering the gate, to the right we found some balancing logs, stepping logs and a wooden teepee. This is surrounded a thick bed of wood chips and by natural shade trees, which were retained from the original lot that was here before the playground was created. Tucked away in The Vines is Emms Green which is home to a quirky little playground. The playground has a focus on imaginative play. There is a large cubby house which contains a set of whisper poles at each end for secret chats. There are wooden planks to run through. And wooden poles to climb. Whiteman Park Dog Park is a little known secret among the dog community The fully fenced and grassed 2.5-hectare playground has a doggie obstacle course and plenty of natural shade from mature trees. There’s even a separate enclosure for smaller dog breeds. There’s a 500m walkway around the circumference of the park so you can exercise yourself as well as your friend. Grand Promenade Reserve, Bedford Grand Promenade Reserve is a leafy park in the City of Bayswater. It has a great sand-based playground with a mixture of equipment for a range of ages. If your child likes to climb, they’ll likely enjoy this playground. With ladders, a rope web and a small climbing wall, as well as a balancing beam course, there is lots to exercise little muscles. Let your little ninjas run free at the new ninja parkour course located inside Whitfords Nodes Health and Wellbeing Hub. This course is the first of its kind in WA and the largest in Australia. The Charles Riley Reserve is tucked away in North Beach alongside the local Community Centre and sports fields. There are rolling manicured lawns and landscaped gardens surrounding a small war memorial, and behind this, you will find a fun new playground that is sand-based with additional purple soft fall surfaces. The Manning Community Hub opened in early 2017 and includes two new play areas. The “Hub” is located on the edge of James Miller Oval so there is also plenty of open grass to run and play on. We met some friends there for a morning play. The kids decided they wanted to try the playground on the far side of the oval first so they were off across the grass. A great place to stop in whilst travelling north, Wangaree Park in the centre of Lancelin has everything you need for the perfect pit-stop. There is a great playground with equipment for all ages, that is shaded by huge trees. To one side of the playground it some new fitness equipment. Located at Mullaloo Beach foreshore closest to the Mullaloo Beach Hotel and Mullaloo lifesaving club, the Mullaloo Beach Pirate playground is sand based with excellent shade coverage. Adachi Park just off Great Eastern Hwy in Belmont has recently had an upgrade to the play equipment. You might know the park for the little brick house that is located there and can be seen from the highway. We recently stopped by for a play and a wander along the river walking paths. We found this a great little spot with parking, toilets, bbq facilities and covered picnic tables as well as the playground equipment and walkways. Occupying a beautiful spot along the banks of the Swan River, Bardon Park in Maylands is a great spot to play! There are two playgrounds located at Bardon Park. The first, closest to the car park, is relatively new and contains some unique play equipment and a focus on nature play. You’ll find a birds nest swing. A net bridge A couple of balancing beams. The playground at Yokine Reserve is fabulous for kids of all ages and abilities! It is fully fenced AND double-gated, perfect for keeping little escape artists contained. Yokine Reserve Playground has such a great array of play equipment that is suitable for kids of all ages and abilities. The playground has two roundabouts which Miss 4 loved! Featherflower Park is located in Dayton it is a new open space that has just been added to the suburb. The park includes stunning natural wetlands with different play areas for kids of all ages to explore plus an outdoor gym for the adults. This is a disability friendly playground for both able and less able bodied children. The play structure can be access by a wheelchair friendly ramp and features throughout the structure. Today we tried out the new playground at Richardson Park in South Perth, just near the Perth Zoo. We found it to have a good range of equipment for a range of ages and it backs onto a large expanse of grass for ball games or running around. The park is small and narrow but packed with equipment including musical pipes, stainless steel drums, talk tubes, lots of climbing and a big slide. It is a sand based playground. Rickman Delawney Reserve, Balcatta The playground at Rickman Delawney Reserve in the leafy suburb of Balcatta has recently undergone an upgrade. Gone is the dated old playground, and in it’s place stands a new climbing structure with a huge slide, toddler equipment and lots more! The whole family will enjoy this new play area. Ivy Watson Playground in Kings Park is a great playground built specifically for 6 year olds and under. The area is fenced but it is large with several different play areas and can get very busy so you’ll need to keep an eye on your little ones. The playground is accessible via Kings Park Road with plenty of parking available. Garvey Park is a great local park just at the end of Fauntleroy Avenue on the river’s edge in Ascot. The kids love the playground as it has something to suit both my sensible 5 year old and my adventurous almost 3 year old! Strive Park, Girrawheen Strive Park is a small park located in the Blackmore Park Estate, in Girrawheen. The playground here features nature play elements, some traditional play elements, and a bike and scooter track. It’s sure to be a hit with the kids! Wyong Reserve in Bentley is a great little park with a lot going on. The playground is fully fenced and has a pathway running around it that is designed as a road to ride scooters and bikes along. Broadview park is set around a small lake, with a path running all the way around it. It’s a lovely spot and perfect for a stroll or ride around the lake and a play. Over the water is a gorgeous little gazebo with seats inside. This is the perfect spot to look for ducks and koi. The gazebo is safely fenced, with no risk of children slipping into the water. This large playground with a mix of nature play, water play and traditional play equipment has something for everyone to enjoy. Lawler Park is a green, leafy park in Floreat with a playground suitable for toddlers and upwards. There are lots of play opportunities here to keep the kids busy. The larger playground structure includes two slides of different sizes, ring-shaped monkey bars, swinging platforms to climb across, some climbing ropes, and a tricky balancing beam with vertical bars to up the difficulty level. While Colour Block Park (The LEGO Park) may not be overly big, it definitely has the WOW factor! The main feature is a climbing structure made up of large brightly coloured building blocks. Surrounding by a road and houses this sleepy hollow park is a gem of a find! It looks like many other parks in Perth with a playframe, slide, climbing, fireman’s pole, rocker, seasaw, swings etc.. Kids just love a skate park, though some of the larger spots can be teeming with older and faster kids. The brilliant Madox Playground and Pumptrack in Forrestdale has a smaller bowl than you’d usually find at a skate park – perfect for beginners – as well as a great little playground. Just a short 5 minute walk from Ngarkal Beach and the Port Coogee water park in the new Parkside Retreat estate, you will find this lovely local playground. The slide is attached to an up-ended sea container that has 2 ways of climbing to the top. You can go around to the back and climb the outside to the door. CY O’Connor Hub Playground is a lovely drive to Mundaring Weir, through Perth’s Hills. You can get there from Kalamunda or Mundaring. Not only is the huge dam essential to WA’s water supply, but it’s a lovely spot for a family picnic.
