The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Livvi’s Place Playground in Whiteman Edge in Brabham is a unique $1.5 million all-inclusive playground which is a result of a partnership between Stockland and the Touched By Olivia Foundation. Banks Reserve is located in Mouth Lawley on the banks of the Swan River, the play space is bearly recognisable after an extensive redevelopment. Tucked away down a suburban street in Duncraig (next to Davallia Primary School) is a brilliant new playground at Juniper Park. The park has both traditional and nature play equipment that will keep kids of all ages busy for some time. Adachi Park just off Great Eastern Hwy in Belmont has recently had an upgrade to the play equipment. You might know the park for the little brick house that is located there and can be seen from the highway. We recently stopped by for a play and a wander along the river walking paths. We found this a great little spot with parking, toilets, bbq facilities and covered picnic tables as well as the playground equipment and walkways. Tucked away in inner city suburb is Mabel Talbot Park. The absolute gem of a park has not just one, but two playgrounds! Mabel Talbot Park is fairly compact, but my word a lot is packed into this wonderful space built around a small lake! In the middle of Victoria Park along busy Albany Hwy you will find Read Park. It is a lovely green, shady park situated next to the Victoria Park Community garden. The play equipment has been situated away from the highway and one of the play areas is enclosed with a fence. The Fremantle Esplanade Playground and surrounding space cater for all ages. It is situated on Marine Terrace, opposite the Esplanade Hotel. The playground is surrounded by huge Norfolk Island Pines and green grass making it a great spot for a picnic. Stretton Way Reserve, situated behind Kenwick Village and is one of the shadiest parks I have seen. Shade sails cover the climbing equipment as well as the BBQ area making it good for summer outings. The play equipment has an excellent variety of play equipment including three slides, monkey bars, balancing equipment, various levels of climbing structures, and a basketball hoop. The Burns Beach Playground is found at a grassy park, overlooking Burns Beach. It’s location, as well as it being slap, bang opposite the delicious Sista’s Burns Beach Café, make it an ideal spot to combine a play at the park with a swim, walk along the coastal pathway or family meal. Katanning All Ages Playground is a one of a kind playground, the type of playground that creates memories that last a lifetime! Carlindie Park is a fairly new park snuggled in between Glenburg Drive and Carlindie Parkway, Golden Bay. There are plenty of open spaces and nature for your little ones to discover. Point Fraser Foreshore Reserve is a must visit if you’re heading into the city for the day with older kids. The equipment in this park is more suited towards school-aged children due to the equipment and steep hills around the landscape of the park. We made our journey to the Point Fraser Reserve directly from the city, it’s very easy to find if you just follow the river edge. Strive Park, Girrawheen Strive Park is a small park located in the Blackmore Park Estate, in Girrawheen. The playground here features nature play elements, some traditional play elements, and a bike and scooter track. It’s sure to be a hit with the kids! The Eden Beach Lookout and Playspace is a brand new section of Eden Beach estate in Jindalee has just opened (Dec 2021) and it’s great for the older kids! Featuring a basketball court, rock climbing wall, parkour, skate/scooter ramps and a huge grassy area it’s a beautiful spot to spend a few hours. The new Shelley Beach playground is a great playground to visit. It’s right on the river, and around the enclosed playground is plenty of grass to kick a ball on, BBQs and gazebos and, of course, the beautiful river. My 10-year-old was impressed with the park, especially the X-park obstacle course. The course is set up with a starting point and different obstacles throughout, including climbing, balancing and swinging. If you’ve ducked into Woolies at the Banksia Grove Shopping Centre recently, you’ll have probably noticed a new play area near the entrance. The bright and colourful play space has something to amuse most kids. The first thing we noticed was the slide. The ladder for this is built inside what looks like colourful metal crates. John Oldham Park is a bit of a hidden gem and the last place you would expect alongside a busy freeway intersection so close to the city, but once you have found it you will often find that you have the place to yourself, except for the odd cyclist on the path down to the Mounts Bay Road. We had an absolute blast at Bathers Park, the newest addition to Alkimos Beach. Nestled alongside the Alkimos Beach foreshore, Bathers Park stretches across 2.5 hectares at the ocean end of Leatherback Boulevard. This vibrant beach-themed was an instant hit with my kids and completely captured their imaginations! The highlight of our visit was the impressive surf rescue play tower, soaring seven meters high. OPTUS STADIUM SENSORY PLAYGROUND – Smack in between the Camfield and the new bridge at Stadium park at Optus Stadium you will find a fully fenced sensory playground. Jackadder Lake Reserve is a lovely family park ideal for a morning or afternoon of fun play and scooting/cycling around the beautiful lake and spotting the wildlife. The playground is suitable for kids of all age and is set in a mixture of sand and soft play flooring. Pitstop Playground is located at Discovery Park, Banksia Grove and it’s pretty special – in fact I’ve not seen anything like it! The central theme of Pitstop Playgrounds, if you haven’t already guessed it, is racing. It has a great racing track that twists and turns around the park complete with Pitstop area where you can chalk your names up on the blackboards and race each other. Miles Park, Cloverdale is a local suburban park and a little gem. There’s a decent traditional sand based park which features swings, a slide and climbing structure. Walk around to the other side of the community centre and you will find a recently constructed, fully fenced and shaded, toddler playground. This features soft fall ground, a basket swing, musical elements, a play structure and slide. My girls love racing around this little park. Penistone Park is a large green park in Greenwood surrounded by tall shady gum trees. A new playground has recently been installed, and it is a delightful mix of traditional play equipment and nature play. On arriving, Miss 4 took off and headed straight to the traditional play section with rope ladders. This area includes a double rope ladder, like one might find on a ship. Nestled amongst the new Niche Living housing estate in Willetton is a brand new playground perfect for kids of any age. We went to check it out over the weekend and my kids (aged 2 and 6) loved it! Huntington Park is a lovely small park, with most of the space dedicated to various wonderful play structures which are all set on sand. The biggest draw for slightly older children would be the giant flying fox swings. There are two running parallel to each other, great for racing your friends!
