The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

The town of Williams is a good place to stop if you are on a road trip heading to/from Denmark or Albany. We recently stopped here on the way back from Denmark and found the quick park stop really helped to burn some energy and break up the journey. Royal Lockwood Reserve is a new fenced playground that has opened in Yokine as of the end of November 2017. It is a great mix of nature play and traditional play equipment. On entering the gate, to the right we found some balancing logs, stepping logs and a wooden teepee. This is surrounded a thick bed of wood chips and by natural shade trees, which were retained from the original lot that was here before the playground was created. Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup is a park more suited to the under 5’s. The playground is partially enclosed and is quite compact and easy to keep track of little ones. It features play equipment in the guise of a train engine and its carriages with each carriage providing a different feature. The train engine houses a small slide which is great for crawlers and early walkers. If you are looking for a gorgeous spot for a picnic then make sure you check out the picnic area at Noble Falls. It has everything you need for the perfect family day out! Noble Falls is located just past the town of Gidgegannup, 50 kilometres northeast of Perth CBD. The picnic area is positioned across the road from the Noble Falls Tavern. Vellgrove Reserve is a simple yet entertaining park located in Middle Swan. We discovered this quiet, colourful playground after making a wrong turn. My little girl was in love with the colourful stepping logs, so we had to stop for a play. The playground consists of 3 main structures: a wooden swing set, blocks of colourful stepping logs and a rock climbing frame with a slide on the other side. Partridge Way Reserve in Thornlie boasts some excellent equipment. This park is suited to kids aged 3 and up as the climbing frames are quite large. There is an obstacle course for older kids to try out their strength and coordination. If you like to play sports then there is a basketball hoop, cricket pitch and plenty of lawn area to set up on. Nestled amongst the new Niche Living housing estate in Willetton is a brand new playground perfect for kids of any age. We went to check it out over the weekend and my kids (aged 2 and 6) loved it! The playground is off Portcullis Drive, Willetton, however, construction is still on going and the entrance is being fenced off from that entry at the moment. Nestled in the northern suburbs, Korella Park is a new gem of a playground boasting brand new Forpark play equipment. It’s in a lovely location alongside a sports field. The playground is sand based and contained in a low sandstone wall that provides seating for supervising mums. Brown Park is a grassy park with shady trees and a playground covered by shade sails set among the leafy streets of Mosman Park. It’s a spot that’s sure to have something to appeal to everyone. Calleya Playground is an awesome playground located in Stocklands Calleya Estate in Banjup. There are 2 slides, including a very high twisty one for the brave and a smaller hill slide. A highlight of Calleya Playground is the 2 in-ground trampolines, they are very popular with kids of all ages and not something that you normally come across in a playground. It has 2 sets of swings. The brand new $1 million Steam Train Adventure Playground at Millars Landing Estate in Baldivis celebrates the area’s early association with trains and timber milling. Was on the way to Claremont Quarter when we stumbled across a fantastic playground just a stone’s throw away from CQ. Rowe Park consists of, a playground, separate sand pit area, lush greenery, benches, basketball court, tennis courts, drinks fountain and plenty of shade. There is also BBQ pits and picnic tables in the near future. The playground features 2 slides, drums, rocking frog, see-saw, spider-web climbing ropes, wobbly bridge, swings, rock climbing, monkey bars, tic-tac-toe and a huge sandpit. Fun new adventure playgrounds seem to be popping up everywhere around Perth at the moment, we recently visited the BRAND NEW The Hales Park in Forrestfield. The Hales Park is nature-based, the main play structure is a 9 metre tall wooden tower that features a huge tunnel slide. Considering Wanneroo is built on old market garden land, it is very fitting that the recently upgraded Frederick Duffy Park is farming themed. This great little park has something for everyone. Set amongst mature gum trees the park has plenty of shade for playing and picnics. At the centre of the park is a big gazebo with a BBQ, picnic tables and a water fountain. Found at Movida Estate, Willuna Park in Midvale, offers a fun new playground. Just minutes form Midland, the park features a great mix of traditional equipment, nature play, sand play and even soccer goals that will keep kids aged from about 3 years and up entertained. The small playground has a wooden fort-like play structure that is great for a little imaginative play. This has to be one of the best nature playgrounds we’ve been to in the local area The Edge Playground in Baldivis is beautiful! It’s a unique and contemporary space that lots of additional features including a maze, hopscotch and cool street art incorporated into the area by Perth street artist Stormie Mills. Cracknell Park in Rivervale is a small park with lots to offer and it has recently had an upgrade to the play equipment. It is a small park with amazing river views, a basketball hoop, ping pong table and a good area of grass. There is a picnic bench near the play equipment. The new Shelley Beach playground is a great playground to visit. It’s right on the river, and around the enclosed playground is plenty of grass to kick a ball on, BBQs and gazebos and, of course, the beautiful river. My 10-year-old was impressed with the park, especially the X-park obstacle course. The course is set up with a starting point and different obstacles throughout, including climbing, balancing and swinging. A bit like the Secret Garden, Ivory Park is a hidden gem tucked away in the suburb of Noranda. It’s felt like a bit of an adventure trying to find it, hidden down some stairs, but it was well worth the effort. Britannia Reserve Pump Track Britannia Reserve Pump Track is a 1.2km pump track and nature bike trail in Leederville. Close to the city, it’s a great spot to take active kids of all ages out riding. Britannia Reserve Pump Track was originally installed as part of a Pop-Up Play initiative in April 2019. It has quickly become a permanent fixture. Ashdale Park is a lovely playground situated in Darch. The playground is located at the rear of Ashdale Primary, adjacent to a small pocket of bushland. The playground here is partially shaded with shade sails. It is set well back from the road, down a pathway, so should be safe for little ones to play. Mirror Park in Ocean Reef is a large oval field and play area consisting of a playground suitable for toddlers, a skate park and toilet block. Parking surrounds the oval as well as set off from the main road in front of the playground. Frederick Stubbs Park is a small park right on the coast in Quinns Rocks. It offers a small grassed area and a playground set on sand. The playground has a limestone retaining wall/steps, which along with the hill, would slow down any dashes towards the road which is nearby. Edwardes Park Nature Playground is an extension to the existing small playground and sits adjacent to a large oval. Made from recycled material it makes a nice addition to the suburban area and utilises material from the Henderson waste treatment facility. Edwardes Park Nature Playground features a double flying fox including one to suit disabled children with an access ramp. In amongst all the shiny office buildings in West Perth is Totterdell Park. The leafy inner city park is made up of a soft fall play area with a large metal play frame that features two slides, “shop” window, climbing nets, ramps, monkey bars, a climbing wall and more. There is also a see-saw and fun nest swing too. This play area isn’t covered by shade sails, though the park is surrounded by mature trees, giving a little afternoon shade. Penistone Park is a large green park in Greenwood surrounded by tall shady gum trees. A new playground has recently been installed, and it is a delightful mix of traditional play equipment and nature play. Hesperia Park in Ellenbrook is a fantastic new playground that features a big slide and 7 meter high lookout tower! As well as the playground, the park has plenty of grass with a big kick about area, shady spots, an exercise zone, nature play and lots of footpaths, perfect for a scoot. Situated in the Shorehaven Estate is Shorehaven Boulevard Playground – a lovely, partially fenced playground that is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. Shorehaven Boulevard Playground features some play equipment we hadn’t come across before, and Miss 3 had a great time exploring.
