The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

A brand new play space is now open just opposite the Westcoast Eagles training ground. This shipwreck-themed playground which opened in March 2018 is one of twenty parks planned within the in the thriving Yanchep Golf Estate! Perfect for toddlers and kids under 10, it certainly ticks a lot of boxes, and this is only stage one of the two-hectare park. Burns Beach Foreshore Playground is a little hidden gem of a family play area. Don’t be mistaken with this playground and the Burns Beach Cafe Playground, yes there are two playgrounds! From the Sistas Beach Cafe and car park walk along the pathway, North and you’ll be greeted with a huge open space, BBQ’s and playground approximately 10mins walk away. Catalina park features a playground to one side, with winding pathways through garden beds packed with native plants. On the other side of the bushy garden is the grassed area which has a soccer goal at one end and plenty of room to run and kick a ball about. Orangutan Park in Golden Bay is a welcome addition to the area and provides a fantastic green open space and cool new play park. It is in keeping with the other play parks on the development which gives it that distinctive Golden Bay feel. Marri Park is a great little spot to take the kids to burn off some extra energy. This park is also dog-friendly, so you could even bring your fur baby along. There is a large grass oval with soccer goals at the top end of the park, so don’t forget your ball for a kick around. Wattle Grove Nature Playscape is a great little nature playground which uses naturally occurring and purpose built play features. Found on Lenihan Corner, off Hale Road in Wattle Grove is this little pocket of bush in suburbia surrounded by house and shops. There is a naturally occurring creek nearby (not fenced). Delamere Park Playground in Currambine delivers on everything you want to keep kids aged 2yrs onwards entertained and active for hours. The only thing it doesn’t deliver on is shade and this park does sit on a main thoroughfare road. The park has plenty of off-road and on-road parking and has the wonderful benefit of being within spitting distance of a Dome Cafe Restaurant. There’s also a toilet block. Fantasy Park at Waikiki is a large accessible park with plenty of play areas for kids to explore, a sensory garden with animal sculptures, a dog friendly park and also the home to Rockingham’s only disc golf course. It felt like we were walking into a fortress at first. There are two playgrounds located near the entrance, just alongside one another. Just a short 5 minute walk from Ngarkal Beach and the Port Coogee water park in the new Parkside Retreat estate, you will find this lovely local playground. The slide is attached to an up-ended sea container that has 2 ways of climbing to the top. You can go around to the back and climb the outside to the door. Canning River Regional Park is a large park and wetlands area covering about 6kms located around the Canning River. We usually go to the Kent St Weir area which also has the Canning River Cafe there but recently we discovered another playground a short walk away. This new playground has been designed based on feedback from the community and includes nature and adventure play and plenty of natural shade. Les Lilleyman Reserve, North Perth Les Lilleyman Reserve in North Perth features a fenced playground surrounded by shady trees. Neil McDougall Park is a leafy park with a great playground for kids of all ages in the heart of Como. The first thing that grabbed Miss 3’s attention when we arrived here was the flying fox. Santa Ana Park Currambine – hidden away behind the Currambine shops, down Santa Ana Mews is a little gem of a park. Tall trees surround a few grassy areas, perfect for kicking around a ball and provide shade to most of the park. The real draw to this park for us, was the playground as there’s one section which is designed just for toddlers, with just the right challenges and a safe height for your toddlers to master the steps and slide by themselves. Found besides the waters of Lake Claremont is a small, but lovely nature playground. The newish play area opened in July 2018 and has been designed for primary school aged kids, though little ones will love the sand play! The main fort structure is suitable for older kids, as it is made up of wooden steps and rope to climb up to the top. Hyde park, an inner city park which boast a pretty awesome playground. It is situated on the corner of Vincent and Throssell Street, North Perth. The playground is perfect for kids of all ages and abilities. The newly completed Lions Park is a race track/road inspired park. It is only a small park but if you have a little one who is learning to scoot or ride this would be a good park to practice at. Today we tried out the new playground at Richardson Park in South Perth, just near the Perth Zoo. We found it to have a good range of equipment for a range of ages and it backs onto a large expanse of grass for ball games or running around. Deep Water Point reserve in Mount Pleasant is a very popular spot for swimming, boating, water sports, picnics and birthday parties. Over the past year, this widely popular spot has undergone some extensive changes and the final stage is now complete and reopened in the last week. If you haven’t heard about the amazing Jungle Park near Whiteman Park, you’d have had to be living under a rock. Little Chef and I were heading there for a play, after lunch in the Swan Valley. On our way, we stumbled on a brand new spot that we’d never heard about – Flamewood Park Playground in Brabham. John MacMillan Park next to the library in Victoria Park has just reopened with a brand new nature playground, basketball courts, open grass and more. The new equipment has been designed around the lovely trees giving it a nice combination of natural shade and shade sails. There are toilets conveniently located behind the basketball area. The Manning Community Hub opened in early 2017 and includes two new play areas. The “Hub” is located on the edge of James Miller Oval so there is also plenty of open grass to run and play on. We met some friends there for a morning play. The kids decided they wanted to try the playground on the far side of the oval first so they were off across the grass. In the heart of Lesmurdie is Bill Shaw Reserve. The suburban park in the Perth Hills is like many other Perth parks with the playground made up of a sand fall area with a large playframe that features a slide, climbing nets, climbing wall and more. Adachi Park just off Great Eastern Hwy in Belmont has recently had an upgrade to the play equipment. You might know the park for the little brick house that is located there and can be seen from the highway. We recently stopped by for a play and a wander along the river walking paths. We found this a great little spot with parking, toilets, bbq facilities and covered picnic tables as well as the playground equipment and walkways. Brampton Park in Butler is nestled next to a manmade lake which has lots of ducks and birds and big rocks amongst some shallow parts of the lake for the kids to climb on (you just need to remind them to be careful as some are slippery as our Mister 5 fell in). Hobart Street Playground is situated on the corner of Hobart and Auckland Streets in North Perth. Being a small neighbourhood park it doesn’t have fancy play equipment, BBQs, picnic tables or toilets. What makes it popular with many families is that it is fully fenced and gated, has large shade sails over all the play equipment and had a large grassed area perfect for throwing down a picnic blanket or playing ball games. Tucked behind the Mundaring Village shopping centre is Lion Pioneer Park, a large grassed area with a playground, park benches and a covered picnic table. It can be found off the Stoneville Road entrance or via ramp or stairs from the shopping centre near the Post Office. The new Shelley Beach playground is a great playground to visit. It’s right on the river, and around the enclosed playground is plenty of grass to kick a ball on, BBQs and gazebos and, of course, the beautiful river. My 10-year-old was impressed with the park, especially the X-park obstacle course. The course is set up with a starting point and different obstacles throughout, including climbing, balancing and swinging. Just around the corner from the Alexander Heights IGA, is Lemongrass Park, a lovely shaded playground with traditional equipment and some nature play elements. One of the main features that caught our eye was the rope equipment.
