The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Hobart Street Playground is situated on the corner of Hobart and Auckland Streets in North Perth. Being a small neighbourhood park it doesn’t have fancy play equipment, BBQs, picnic tables or toilets. What makes it popular with many families is that it is fully fenced and gated, has large shade sails over all the play equipment and had a large grassed area perfect for throwing down a picnic blanket or playing ball games. Nestled in the heart of old Baldivis, Peckham Boulevard Playground is a gem to be discovered. Bayswater Riverside Gardens located along Milne and King William Streets is a fabulous playground to visit with toddlers. Bayswater Riverside Gardens has great age-appropriate play equipment, fully fenced and gated, features rubber soft fall and is covered with shade sails. Aviary Creek Park is a fun and creative play space in the growing suburb of Aveley. The one-of-a-kind playground has been built around two natural lakes and the main feature is a giant water wheel with twisting tunnel slides! The water wheel is split into two levels, the first level has a blue slide and wooden bridge that leads to a ladder back down to ground level. Nestled amongst trees at Mary Crescent Reserve in Eden Hill is a small, but lovely nature playground that features a fun flying fox! The play area has been designed for kids of all ages, with equipment that appeals to primary school aged kids, as well as little ones. Mrs Herbert’s Park in Claremont is the perfect spot to spend a few hours now that the weather is warming up. Mrs Herbert’s Park is situated right on the calm waters of Freshwater Bay in Claremont. There is a little carpark alongside the Freshwater Bay Museum which is next door the park. Have you heard of the OneOneFive Hamilton Hill development? It’s located on the former site of Hamilton Hill High School and it’s got some amazing play spaces. Atwell Oval Playground has had a complete upgrade and it’s quite awesome! The main feature is a large spider-web climbing frame. There are a smaller climbing spider-web frame and monkey bars. A 6-swing swing set! Perfect for the “Who can go the highest?” competitions. There is so much space for ball games. Unfortunately, unless the clubrooms are open there are no toilet facilities at Atwell Oval Playground but there is a drinking fountain. If you haven’t heard about the amazing Jungle Park near Whiteman Park, you’d have had to be living under a rock. Little Chef and I were heading there for a play, after lunch in the Swan Valley. On our way, we stumbled on a brand new spot that we’d never heard about – Flamewood Park Playground in Brabham. We had an absolute blast at Bathers Park, the newest addition to Alkimos Beach. Nestled alongside the Alkimos Beach foreshore, Bathers Park stretches across 2.5 hectares at the ocean end of Leatherback Boulevard. This vibrant beach-themed was an instant hit with my kids and completely captured their imaginations! The highlight of our visit was the impressive surf rescue play tower, soaring seven meters high. Northern Parklands is a brand new playground as part of a redevelopment in Bentley. The parklands were created with the input of local school children and teachers and the outcome was a play space that is quite different from the norm. There’s a street games strip which is such a great idea and includes hopscotch, noughts and crosses, basketball and netball, a climbing frame mini obstacle course and mini skateboarding course. Promenade Park is tucked amongst apartment buildings in Burswood. It has recently been updated with new playground equipment. We stopped by for a play recently and found it had a lot of different activities to keep little ones occupied. There were a number of board activities such as a word search, ball maze and line up 4 which added extra interaction and different activities to the usual playground equipment. Just off of Beach Road in Girrawheen, we discovered Tendring Park, a neat little park with a life sized snakes and ladders game. The main play structure in the playground features a twisty slide, a climbing wall, a rope climbing web, a fireman pole, some balancing platforms, monkey bars, and a little steering wheel at the top for imagination play. Neil McDougall Park is a leafy park with a great playground for kids of all ages in the heart of Como. The first thing that grabbed Miss 3’s attention when we arrived here was the flying fox. This has a small platform to climb up and launch from. With a bit of help from me, she had several rides. She loved it! Smiles all around when she hopped off. Situated in the new development on Dragonfly Boulevard, it’s approximately 6 minutes drive from Lakelands shopping centre and Library on the Mandurah road. Dazzle Park is a vibrant and colourful playground located at lluma Estate in Bennett springs. This unusual playground is situated within a hedge maze which we are sure will provide lots of extra fun once it matures. This playground is definitely one for the kids not afraid of heights. We all know and love the beautiful Bells Rapids, but just a few Kilometres up the road is a peaceful spot known as Jumbuck Hill Park. Located on rolling hills in Brigadoon, this park is the most peaceful spot we have been to, and at the moment with so much rain you can hear the water flowing in the rocks in different areas of the park. Wow! If your kids are into riding bikes – whatever age they are, John Dunn Challenge Park in Kelmscott is amazing. There are four bike tracks, plus a trainer track, mini track, intermediate track and advanced track – meaning there is a level to suit everyone here. The impressive $1.5m The Edge Skatepark Calista is one of WA’s biggest skating facilities. The skatepark’s main features are a competition-level bowl, street section, beginner’s area (great for little ones on scooters), parkour obstacles and a basketball half-court. There’s a new playground in Perth’s south! Found at The Links golf course in Port Kennedy, “The Nest” is a great spot for kids to play – particularly if they love golf. Part of the golf club’s redevelopment, it is found right opposite Birdie café and restaurant, making it a great spot for lunch with the family. What started as a family day out at Hamelin Bay, ended at the small seaside town after a trip to the Augusta Hospital (gotta love a fishhook in the leg!). The Walyalup Koort Play Space Fremantle has opened! Found in Freo’s heart, the Kings Square play space has been inspired by the port city’s industrial history and close links with nature. There are vibrant design features such as cranes, bridges, train tracks and shipping containers, as well as natural elements like water and trees. Dianella BMX Track As of July 2021, Dianella Regional Open Space now features a stunning new BMX track. When driving to the Great Southern town of Albany, we took a little detour off Albany Highway to visit the NEW Hotham River Foreshore Adventure Play Park in Boddington. Found on the banks of the Hotham River, the fantastic playground truly has something for kids of all ages, as well as providing a welcome rest stop for a picnic.
