The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

After over four years in the making, the 9 million dollar redevelopment of Shirley Strickland Reserve is complete! The dog-friendly sporting reserve is now home to a state-of-the-art Sport and Community Pavilion, a fantastic nature playground, fitness equipment and cycle/walking paths. Tucked away in inner city suburb is Mabel Talbot Park. The absolute gem of a park has not just one, but two playgrounds! Mabel Talbot Park is fairly compact, but my word a lot is packed into this wonderful space built around a small lake! Grand Promenade Reserve, Bedford Grand Promenade Reserve is a leafy park in the City of Bayswater. It has a great sand-based playground with a mixture of equipment for a range of ages. If your child likes to climb, they’ll likely enjoy this playground. With ladders, a rope web and a small climbing wall, as well as a balancing beam course, there is lots to exercise little muscles. McIntyre Park is located on McIntyre Avenue in Burns Beach and it offers a large grassy oval situated next to a nautical-themed playground, fringed by picnic shelters. McIntyre Park playground is largely constructed with wood and is unique in design with its nautical theme. The playground is sand based with a soft fall pathway. Eden Beach Playground in Jindalee is one of many of the new playgrounds opening up in the Northern Suburbs by local land developer Satterley. Located next to the primary school playing field, Eden Beach Playground feels nice and open and airy. Tucked away off James Spiers Drive is Regent Waters Playground, a small suburban playground. The location borders on Lake Joondalup and is very peaceful and pretty with birdlife and clusters of shady trees. Regent Waters Playground is sandbased and surrounded by plenty of grass with three large sheltered picnic tables scattered at intervals. A brand new play space has just opened up at Centenary Park in Belmont and it’s so good! Designed for younger kids, the playground is fully fenced with a mixture of soft fall and sand. If you’ve ducked into Woolies at the Banksia Grove Shopping Centre recently, you’ll have probably noticed a new play area near the entrance. The bright and colourful play space has something to amuse most kids. The first thing we noticed was the slide. The ladder for this is built inside what looks like colourful metal crates. This has to be one of the best nature playgrounds we’ve been to in the local area The Edge Playground in Baldivis is beautiful! It’s a unique and contemporary space that lots of additional features including a maze, hopscotch and cool street art incorporated into the area by Perth street artist Stormie Mills. A bit like the Secret Garden, Ivory Park is a hidden gem tucked away in the suburb of Noranda. It’s felt like a bit of an adventure trying to find it, hidden down some stairs, but it was well worth the effort. The playground structure features plenty of climbing elements such as the climbing wall and the rope ladders. Great for keeping energetic little monkeys busy! The brand new $1.4 million Lottery-West funded Whale Playground has opened up at Scarborough Beach. The playground is inspired by Noongar culture and features a blue whale skeleton as its main theme. Coogee Beach Playground – it’s been many years since I visited Coogee Beach. Thankfully not much has changed. The beautiful lush grass strip is still there and is perfect for a game of cricket or dusting off the old frisbee or kicking the ball around. My daughter thought it was her racing track and proceeded to show off her running skills to who ever was interested. Germano Park is a peaceful, leafy park with a playground to suit most kids located in Wanneroo. If your kids love to climb, they’ll love this park. What struck me first when we arrived at Germano Park was how quiet and green it was. The park is full of trees and soft birdsong. The playground area is covered by shade sails with a sand base. This features climbing rope equipment in the form of a rope tunnel, a rope ladder, and ropes with plastic platforms to balance across. Ready, set, go! The Harrisdale Skate and Scooter Park is a brilliant spot for children big and small to get active. The Heron Park Estate has created a scooter track, as well as a small skate park, and even basketball/football facilities – so remember to pack a ball too! Mariala Vista Park is located in Jindowie, Yanchep. So many of the new parks that have been built recently have a problem with serious lack of shade, where the developer has planted trees but they won’t provide any shade until they mature in years to come. Just 5 minutes drive from Garden City Shopping Centre, atop Wireless Hill, is a beautiful is Wireless Hill Nature Playspace. We arrived in the middle of the day, and amazingly the play area is naturally shaded by the surrounding trees, even at noon. On the hunt for a post-breakfast play spot in Wanneroo, I found myself spoilt for choice. Preferring to steer away from much-loved Rotary Park after a recent school holidays visit to Café Elixir, my toddler and I ended up at nearby Nyunda Park on Nannatee Way. The Perry Lakes Reserve is a 200 acre nature reserve found on the eastern edge of the larger Bold Park reserve in Floreat. There are two playgrounds here, set amongst beautiful trees, large grassed areas and two lakes. Pine Park is a hidden gem in Darlington, in the Perth Hills. I grew up in the hills and my parents still live there. On today’s visit we thought we’d try somewhere different to the usual park. I’m glad we did, it was a very pleasant morning and more importantly little Miss had a great time. It is a small playground with a castle theme.
