The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Weeip Park is a NEW (Sept 2021) public open space in Midland that’s perfect for the whole family. It’s got everything from a nature playground to climbing equipment, and it’s all yours to explore! Des Penman Reserve is a large grassy reserve located in Nollamara. It is one of the largest of its kind in the area. Set aside in one corner, there is a neat playground, which is staggered over a number of levels for the kids to explore. Brabham has recently added a new park to Ariella estate, Ariella Adventure Park, and it’s absolutely delightful. The park features an awesome dragonfly play structure which consists of two rope climbing frames and one giant slide. The kids loved climbing up high at the top of the frame then walking along, before doing their best speed down the slide! It kept them entertained for ages! Cockburn ARC Playground a fantastic new playground has been developed along side the new Cockburn ARC rec centre over looking a lovely wetland area. One side of the playground features a large rope spiderweb. Clarkson Reserve, Maylands Clarkson Reserve is a hidden gem in the leafy suburb of Maylands. It features a small nature playground, bike and scooter paths and gorgeous river views. On arriving, Miss 4 raced to the play area. This is mostly sand-based and features wooden balancing beams and flat logs to hop across. Point Fraser Foreshore Reserve is a must visit if you’re heading into the city for the day with older kids. The equipment in this park is more suited towards school-aged children due to the equipment and steep hills around the landscape of the park. We made our journey to the Point Fraser Reserve directly from the city, it’s very easy to find if you just follow the river edge. Tucked away in a quiet street in Queens Park is Serisier Parkway playground. It is a fully fenced playground with two gate entries. It is quite well shaded naturally with palm trees in the park and tall trees surrounding. The play equipment has a small climbing wall, slide and a couple of rope climbing activities. Considering Wanneroo is built on old market garden land, it is very fitting that the recently upgraded Frederick Duffy Park is farming themed. This great little park has something for everyone. The Fremantle Esplanade Playground and surrounding space cater for all ages. It is situated on Marine Terrace, opposite the Esplanade Hotel. The City of Belmont has a very cool new edition a Forster Park – a bike pump track! There’s the regular pump track circuit and then there are some pretty large jumps. This is so much fun – even just watching is very entertaining. Only bikes with air-filled tyres are allowed on the track as scooters and plastic wheeled toys can damage it. There’s a new (opened November 2023) playground in the Perth foothills suburb of Bushmead! While it’s much smaller than the estate’s “Giant Park”, the Treetop Park Playground has plenty of equipment for kids that love to explore and climb. It’s shaded by mature trees too! The 6-meter timber tower structure features a tube slide (currently under repair – Dec ’23). Very small children may have trouble reaching this, as there’s a steep ladder to climb to get to it. The brand new Myella Estate nestled on the northern banks of Lake Joondalup is home to a super fun playground worthy of exploring! The bright orange play structure definitely sounds out in this nature-based playground. The structure is suitable for confident climbers who can navigate climbing nets and ladders to reach the slide. OPTUS STADIUM SENSORY PLAYGROUND – Smack in between the Camfield and the new bridge at Stadium park at Optus Stadium you will find a fully fenced sensory playground. Clarko Reserve is a coastal reserve located at Trigg Beach at the end of Karrinyup Road. The jewel colours of the verdant green grass and shimmering blue sea beyond the dunes is a feast for the eyes. This has to be one of the best nature playgrounds we’ve been to in the local area The Edge Playground in Baldivis is beautiful! It’s a unique and contemporary space that lots of additional features including a maze, hopscotch and cool street art incorporated into the area by Perth street artist Stormie Mills. Halliday Park is a quiet park with lots of open green space located behind The Bayswater Hotel. The park is named after an early Bayswater settler, Henry Thomas Halliday, and as of May 2018 the playground area has undergone an upgrade with a new play structure and fresh sand now in place.
