The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Located just around Harrisdale Nature Reserve, Harrisdale Green Sensory Park is the all-new interactive sensory park for children of all abilities at the new Harrisdale Green Estate. Dianella Open Space playground is a great play area for kids of all ages with a huge amount of different and challenging activities to keep every kid entertained for hours! The Fremantle Esplanade Playground and surrounding space cater for all ages. It is situated on Marine Terrace, opposite the Esplanade Hotel. The playground is surrounded by huge Norfolk Island Pines and green grass making it a great spot for a picnic. The Charles Riley Reserve is tucked away in North Beach alongside the local Community Centre and sports fields. There are rolling manicured lawns and landscaped gardens surrounding a small war memorial, and behind this, you will find a fun new playground that is sand-based with additional purple soft fall surfaces. Tucked away in a suburban area of Joondalup (not far from the Candlewood Shopping Centre) is Windermere Park. The little gem of a park has enough play equipment to keep kids busy for a while! The playground is small, but a lot is packed into it, with traditional play and a little nature play too. Adventure Tower Park is the star of the newest playground in the Calleya Estate Banjup. With footy posts, a large grassed area, free gas BBQ’s and sheltered seating, it is a great location for burn off some extra energy. The main feature of the playground is a huge 8 metre adventure tower! There are metal ladders to get you to the bottom of the tower where there is a smaller slide for the littlies and then the only way up to the twisty slide is a rope ladder. The Esplanade Youth Plaza in Fremantle is a family-friendly, inner-city hangout located at the southeastern corner of Fremantle’s Esplanade Reserve. Costing $1.6million to develop, the Plaza opened in April 2014. Flindell Park is the latest playground and park area to be added to Taylor estate in Caversham. This quiet little park won’t be quiet for too much longer! Fancote Park is located behind Stargate Shops in Kelmscott. As we drove past the big forte caught our eye so we stopped for a look and a play. The park has wide open grassed spaces for ball games or running around, sand-based playground, exercise equipment and the forte. The park is also equipped with a covered BBQ, picnic tables and benches around the play equipment. There is a drinking fountain near the picnic tables. Hillcrest Park in Bayswater now has a new playground nestled on the edge of the oval between the Jamison-Frame Pavilion and the cricket practice cages. The first thing we noted at Hillcrest Park was the base is not sand. A definite plus if you don’t want sandy little feet in your car afterwards! Mt Henry Bridge Reserve, Mount Pleasant Mount Henry Bridge Reserve is a multi-use recreation area on the river in Mount Pleasant. It is situated in the shadow of the Mt Henry Bridge, and has a great kids playground and an on-site cafe. The first thing we did on arriving was grab some lunch at the Kerbside Cafe. Vellgrove Reserve is a simple yet entertaining park located in Middle Swan. We discovered this quiet, colourful playground after making a wrong turn. My little girl was in love with the colourful stepping logs, so we had to stop for a play. The playground consists of 3 main structures: a wooden swing set, blocks of colourful stepping logs and a rock climbing frame with a slide on the other side. The Village West Playground at Whiteman Park has undergone a complete reconstruction with all new play equipment and shade sails. It’s a perfect park for summer days with almost the entire park covered by shade. It is still fully fenced with only one open entrance near the picnic tables. Jubilee Reserve, Eden Hill Jubilee Reserve is a multi-use reserve with a great playground located in Eden Hill. With play equipment suitable for toddlers to tweens, this shaded, sand-free playground is sure to be a hit. On arrival, Miss 4.5 bolted straight for the climbing ropes. In the heart of Glen Forrest you’ll find an absolute hidden gem of a playground at Morgan John Morgan Reserve. The leafy spot in the Perth Hills is known locally as “The Train Park”. Opened in 2020, this great park in Australind makes a great stopover on the way down south. It takes its name from the local Wardandi Noongar language. Rosslare Park in Mindarie Marina is the perfect place to take children swimming. It’s a small beach in an enclave in the Marina. The water is shallow and very calm – great for floating a blow up dingy on. Rosslare Park Mindarie is a bit of secret so SHHHHHHH!!!! There is a large bank of steps from the shore into the water. As a mum of a busy 2-year-old toddler, I couldn’t be more thrilled with Joondalup Square playground, located opposite the gigantic Bunnings Warehouse. As an added bonus, the well thought out open-air play area is surrounded by eateries! Joondalup Square playground is shaded by two shade sails and is fully fenced and gated. Just down the road from Waldecks Stirling is a neat little playground on a leafy street, is Candella Square Playground. This is a well maintained small playground. The main playground structure includes a twisty slide, a curved flying fox, a wooden climbing wall, a climbing pole as well as the usual steps and ladders. Morris Mundy Reserve is a lovely reserve in Kensington with basketball and netball hoop, cricket wickets, football goals, large green oval, picnic tables and a new shaded playground. The reserve backs onto houses on three sides although not fully fenced is fairly safe as it’s a long way between the playground equipment and the road. On a recent road trip, we took a detour through Northam, the detour was originally to check out the Northam Suspension Bridge, which is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in Australia. After crossing the bridge, which was well worth the visit (until the kids thought it was fun to make it sway), we discovered Bernard Park which features two fully fenced play areas, a water playground, sculptures, amphitheatre, picnic and BBQ facilities and public toilets.
