Visit the sleepy Western Australian town of Denmark with your family! The stunning Great Southern spot is a lovely year-round holiday destination – there’s so much to see and do. Found about 5 hours’ drive from Perth, Denmark has beautiful beaches, family friendly wineries and attractions, as well as the nearby Valley of the Giants attraction to explore.
Here’s our ultimate guide of fun things to see and do in Walpole and Denmark with kids…
Thing To Do in Denmark and Walpole
A wander through the Valley of the Giants is an absolute “must visit” in the Great Southern. This special part of WA is home to ancient, rare red tingle trees. The whole family can experience walking through the canopy of the tingle forest and enjoy the majestic views from a different perspective on the tree top walk. There is also an Ancient Empire Walk, Discovery Centre and gift shop. See the Buggybuddys review here.
Denmark is blessed with some of WA’s most beautiful beaches. William Bay National Park is dotted with stunning swimming spots, many of which are family friendly. Spend a sunny afternoon discovering the beaches – Greens Pool, Elephant Rocks and Mad Fish Bay.
Spending hours at a beach is fantastic (and free!) fun – be sure to take your fishing gear too. See the Buggybuddys review here.
Denmark Animal Farm and Pentland Alpaca Stud is a hands-on farm with many friendly animals you can walk amongst, pat and feed. The baby animals are bottle-fed daily at 3pm. Kids will love meeting the alpacas, camels, kangaroos, guinea pigs, rabbits, Scottish highland cattle, sheep, goats, donkeys, horses, emu, parrots, galahs, ferrets and more. See the Buggybuddys review here.
Have a ball at Denmark Soccer Golf at the Toffee Factory. The unique game of Soccer Golf is lots of fun. It’s basically the same idea as golf, each kick is equivalent to one stroke and there’s no dribbling – though you may need to remind the kids! See the Buggybuddys review here.
Love an adrenalin rush? The whole family can challenge themselves at Denmark Thrills Adventure Park – home to the world’s longest Hydro-Orbing track! Denmark Thrills offers activities from bocce, and ziplining, to climbing, abseiling and so much more. See the Buggybuddys review here.
Little dino lovers will be amazed by the huge prehistoric replica skeletons at Dinosaur World: Bird and Reptile Park! There’s dinosaur bones and reptile exhibits, as well as lots of birds to see. You might even be lucky enough to get up close! See the Buggybuddys review here.
Playgrounds in Denmark
On the banks of the Denmark River, Berridge Park’s lively shaded playground has a mix of sand and soft fall with traditional steel framed play equipment for children of all ages. See the Buggybuddys review here.
If your kids love to get their hands dirty, take them to the nature playground at Kwoorabup Community Adventure Park. A dry river bed meanders around the deceptively simple park – it gets kid’s creativity flowing, with lots of mounds to climb, logs to balance on, cubbies to build and gullies to explore. See the Buggybuddys review here.
Kid Friendly Denmark Restaurants, Wineries and Cafés
The incredibly popular Boston Brewery is part of the Willoughby Park Winery. It’s your typical West Aussie country brewery – good family friendly vibes, tasty food, chilled beer garden, excellent beer and lots to keep the kids amused, including a big playground. See the Buggybuddys review here.
The Denmark Tavern’s big red and blue playground is a huge hit with kids. Winter months bring cosy wood fires indoors, while warmer months are best for basking in the beer garden. See the Buggybuddys review here.
Looking for a great place for coffee and brunch? Mrs Jones Café in the heart of the town centre, has lots of tasty options for the whole family. See the Buggybuddys review here.
The Denmark area is renowned for excellent wineries. Bartholomews Meadery is a little different. Mead, or honey wine, is the world’s oldest alcoholic drink. The meadery is well worth a visit for families. At the cellar door kids can see the bees at work in the hive, as well devour a scoop or two of the house made honey ice cream. See the Buggybuddys review here.
Head to The Denmark Chocolate Company aka Swiss Annie’s Fine Chocolate for a scrumptious hot chocolate. Explore the beautiful gardens, with the “Chocolate Timeline” walk adding lots of sweet, fun, chocolatey facts along the way. Inside the cafe there’s a drool worthy range of local jams, honey, wine and more. Children can watch the chocolatiers at work. See the Buggybuddys review here.

Stay at the Misty Valley Country Cottages, surrounded by rolling hills and lush paddocks. The wonderful farm stay has well equipped cottages complete with cosy log fires.
