Tucked just back from the bustle of Scarborough Beach, Lark is a welcoming community-style café that has clearly been designed with families in mind. Set within the Scarborough Baptist site, it combines good coffee, simple tasty food and a fantastic play offering, making it an easy choice for catch ups when you’ve got children of mixed ages in tow. There’s plenty of parking on-site, so you’re not battling beach-front traffic before you’ve even ordered.

The star of Lark is the fully fenced and gated nature Playground, which genuinely rivals many public Playgrounds. In the centre sits a timber fort that quickly becomes base camp for kids’ imaginative games. Children can scramble up via wooden ladders, climb the rope netting or cross the wobbly wooden bridge before whooshing back down the slide.

Underneath the fort there’s a generous sandpit, which is perfect for toddlers and younger children who prefer to potter and dig rather than climb.

Adjoining the main fort is a flying fox platform, which is a huge hit with older kids. The flying fox has a decent amount of speed without feeling too scary, and can also be accessed via a set of monkey bars, so there’s a nice bit of extra challenge for confident climbers.

Elsewhere in the Playground you’ll find a wooden boat complete with moving steering wheel for little captains, and a nest swing that works well for siblings to share or for younger children who need more support.

Picnic tables and bench seating ring the edge of the play area, which makes it easy for adults to relax with a coffee while still keeping an eye on the action in a safely enclosed space.
Inside, Lark offers several different zones that suit various ages and catch ups. There’s a cosy lounge area that is ideal for babies and younger toddlers, or for anyone wanting a quieter conversation. Here you’ll find comfy couches, books, board games, a teepee and small toys – a lovely set-up for mothers’ groups, low-key meetups or a rainy-day visit. This lounge space can also be booked for parent groups, book clubs and similar gatherings, giving you a semi-private spot with play options right at hand.

Alongside this is a larger indoor room geared more toward bigger kids, with space to run around and play, plus bigger games and equipment. It’s an excellent air-conditioned option on hot days, or when the weather makes outside play less appealing. Parents can sit back with a drink while the kids burn off energy in a safe, contained environment. Between the indoor and outdoor play areas, there’s something to suit babies through to primary schoolers, which is a big part of Lark’s appeal.

On the food and drink front, Lark serves Five Senses coffee and a café-style menu that is deliberately family-friendly. Coffee is a solid drawcard for parents, and kids are well catered for with options like chocolate milkshakes.

On our visit, the children shared a small grazing plate – an ideal “keep them going” snack between meals. It included veggie sticks, cheese and crackers, with the option to add hummus for a small extra cost. It’s the kind of simple but thoughtful kids’ food that makes life easier when you’re juggling hungry little ones.
The café also offers a wider selection of light meals and treats making it the sort of place you’re happy to linger. With indoor and outdoor seating, you can choose to sit right by the Playground or inside near the playrooms, depending on the ages of your kids and the weather on the day. The overall atmosphere is relaxed and community-focused, and staff are used to the chaos that can come with families, which helps everyone feel comfortable.
Lark has also become a popular spot for children’s birthday parties and group gatherings thanks to its combination of enclosed nature play, indoor play spaces and café catering. Parents appreciate having a single venue where kids can play safely while adults enjoy coffee and conversation, without needing to bring in extra entertainment. If you’re planning a party or group catch up, it’s worth getting in touch with the team via their Facebook page to chat about options.
Whether you’re catching up with friends who have babies, busy toddlers and school-aged siblings all at once, or just looking for a low-stress coffee date where the kids will be happily occupied, Lark in Scarborough ticks a lot of boxes. With its unique blend of nature play, indoor playrooms, quality coffee and easy parking, it’s a genuine hidden gem for families in Perth’s northern suburbs.
