A few years ago I wrote the original blog on Pioneer Avon Park, which is located on banks of Avon River in York, fast forward to 2020 the park is unrecognisable!
The playground is nature-based and features recycled timber seating throughout, sheltered picnic tables, BBQs, toilets and plenty of shade!
Arriving, my kids ran straight for the double flying fox which features an all abilities and pommel seat.
The water play and dry creek was a huge hit with my 3 year old… any excuse to get wet and messy 😉
The extensively re-developed playground also features swings, a bucket swing for little ones, a traditional swing and basket swing.
Seesaws, a smaller modern seesaw and a big timber seesaw.

An embanked slide with log steppers and ladder.
A large timber stack climber.
Bring your bikes or scooter because there’s a skate park featuring a quarter pipe, bowl, rails, ramps and more!
On the North side of the park, you will find the swinging bridge which crosses the river, while crossing we spotted ducks and other wildlife. Standing in the middle of the bridge the views down the river are breathtaking. On the other side of the bridge, there is a walking trail.
