The infamous pirate ship playground at Heathcote Reserve in Applecross is probably one of the first few ‘super playgrounds’ in Perth.
I must say this playground is also one of the most picturesque playgrounds in Perth, offering a panoramic view of Perth city and surroundings.
The playground is a huge pirate (or any kind of ship really) where kids can just let their imagination run wild! From being pirates to passengers onboard a cruise ship, rescue ship, Peter Pan and Wendy, the possibilities are endless. There are so many tunnels and secret hideouts, bridges, lookout points around the ship for hours of fun.
There are also many slides for escape routes throughout the ship. The infamous speedy fast blue slide, which Mr C used to have many face plants into the sand incidents, has been replaced by a tunnel slide.
One of my personal favourites of this playground is the bells. You can play tunes on it or even incorporate it into your imaginative play. A section of musical instruments, bongo drums and chimes have been added during the makeover. A couple of panel activity stations have also been added, which includes a maze, matching game and a steering wheel.
Over to the other side of the playground, there is a section for the little ones. There are slides and a slightly bigger sandpit. A digger is also located in the sandpit, near the shark slide, both a big hit with the littler kids. Swings with bucket seats can also be found in the toddler area. There are also a number of seats around the toddler area so you can always be close to your child and keep an eye on them.
A recent addition to the playground is the Our Ruby Girl pop up cafe. The pop-up is right in the middle of the park, overlooking the play area, so you can either sit back and watch or tag team who is drinking coffee and who is chasing the kiddies. The staff behind the counter are lovely and serves up ready-made treats if you need a quick snack.
Facilities around this playground include toilets, a water/drinking fountain, a number of BBQ pits, plenty of grass/benches for picnics and birthday parties. There is also plenty of parking available.
