The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Jackadder Lake Reserve is a lovely family park ideal for a morning or afternoon of fun play and scooting/cycling around the beautiful lake and spotting the wildlife. The playground is suitable for kids of all age and is set in a mixture of sand and soft play flooring. Kids can enjoy wiggly slides, straight slides, and curly slides all of which aren’t particularly steep so great for the toddlers. Kinross Park Playground also known as Falklands Park is a small local park with little facilities or attraction but worth a quick visit as it’s set back off the main road and has a large open space for the kids to run around. During the autumn and winter months the park gets very busy at weekends with Auskick games. The playframe consists of 2 slides, ladders, tunnel, climbing walls, monkey bars, noughts and crosses and a flying fox. There’s also a seesaw, rocker and 2 swings. Wattle Grove Nature Playscape is a great little nature playground which uses naturally occurring and purpose built play features. Found on Lenihan Corner, off Hale Road in Wattle Grove is this little pocket of bush in suburbia surrounded by house and shops. There is a naturally occurring creek nearby (not fenced). There is also a pathway to covered picnic benches away from the main playing area. The park features a set of five swings in a circle, one is a toddler swing. Carine Open Space is one of our local and favourite parks to head to on the weekend as there are oodles to do and see. We usually spend a few hours there if it’s nice weather and take the kids scooters/bikes and the dog. This is a big favourite for dog walkers on the weekend and they sometimes have organised sporting comps on at the weekend so it can get busy at peak times. Alkimos Park is situated in a newly established family suburb estate, north of Butler (NOR). The park offers school-aged kids lots of nature play equipment as well as some interesting items I’ve not seen in other parks yet. Alkimos Park is a mix of sand and soft fall with a main wooded climbing structure, nets and slide. This is quite shaded whilst you’re in the structure but otherwise, the park has no shade to offer until the trees mature around it. Just off of Main Street in Balcatta is Conway Reserve, a bright, colourful playground surrounded by a grassy park. Conway Reserve is partially fenced with a path running from Harrison Street to Archibald Street, and a large grassed area for ball games or exercising the dog. The playground structure features two slides of different sizes, climbing ladders, a fireman pole, a tunnel and a bridge. Surrounding by a road and houses this sleepy hollow park is a gem of a find! It looks like many other parks in Perth with a playframe, slide, climbing, fireman’s pole, rocker, seasaw, swings etc.. There’s even a fully fenced pond/water feature What makes this park truly interesting is this!! Yes it’s a Hobbit Hole and tunnel! There’s a new (opened November 2023) playground in the Perth foothills suburb of Bushmead! While it’s much smaller than the estate’s “Giant Park”, the Treetop Park Playground has plenty of equipment for kids that love to explore and climb. It’s shaded by mature trees too! The 6-meter timber tower structure features a tube slide (currently under repair – Dec ’23). Very small children may have trouble reaching this, as there’s a steep ladder to climb to get to it. John MacMillan Park next to the library in Victoria Park has just reopened with a brand new nature playground, basketball courts, open grass and more. The new equipment has been designed around the lovely trees giving it a nice combination of natural shade and shade sails. There are toilets conveniently located behind the basketball area. The Kent St Weir area has just got even better with the newly opened Pump Track. The pump track is located on Kent St as you drive into the main car park area. The last few times we have visited the area the car park has been full and parking has overflowed to the adjoining streets. Cockburn ARC Playground a fantastic new playground has been developed along side the new Cockburn ARC rec centre over looking a lovely wetland area. One side of the playground features a large rope spiderweb. To get to the other side of the playground you need to journey through the tunnel, climb up the rocks or on the wooden stepping logs to go down the double tunnel slide. In a hidden pocket of Hillarys, lies a freshly revamped kids playground set amongst the leafy trees and green lawns of Broadbeach Park. This picturesque park boasts a gorgeous lake with black swans and ducks gliding on its tranquil water, and pretty pathways to walk and scoot on. We recently found a new bee themed park in Beckenham. The park has bee themed play equipment and hexagonal design features keeping the bee theme. In the largest hexagonal the play equipment features a bee platform with a slide that is accessed from a wooden bridge or climbing ropes on either side. There are two swings, one toddler and one normal. Also in this area is a bouncing helicopter. Barwon Park Craigiesituated in the family-friendly suburb of Craigie, Barwon Park Craigie has a great mixture of play equipment and green space to keep most active kids busy. On our visit, my Miss 3 immediately headed to the wood chip area first. This is a good spot for toddlers and kids who like imaginative play. It features a tunnel to crawl through, noughts and crosses, an abacus, and a playhouse with seating. Whitfords Nodes Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hillarys which has been dubbed Jacob’s Ladder of the North due to the 21m fitness staircase opened in September 2019. The multipurpose fitness hub is not only for fitness junkies, it also a great spot for families to stay fit and active together. If you’re looking for a playground to suit active older kids and younger siblings, Crimea Skate Park and Playground might be just the play space for you. The skate park was opened in March 2008, and features a number of ramps, rails and ledges. Pioneer Park is an unusual playspace situated next to the Canning River in Gosnells. The playground is below street level and you enter via a ‘tree top’ long walkway which is pram friendly and great fun for scooting down. The Canning River runs next to the playground but it is well fenced off so there is no danger of little people getting close to the water whilst your back is turned. Jubilee Reserve, Eden Hill Jubilee Reserve is a multi-use reserve with a great playground located in Eden Hill. With play equipment suitable for toddlers to tweens, this shaded, sand-free playground is sure to be a hit. On arrival, Miss 4.5 bolted straight for the climbing ropes. A large arched climbing structure with rope ladders, a climbing wall and rubbery platforms with a huge winner with my Miss and a 7 year old girl. Previously known as Orange Grove Community Reserve, Boyle Lane All Abilities Playground is the NEWest playground that has received a $242,000 upgrade from the City of Gosnells in Orange Grove. Located at the intersection of Boyle Lane and Maddington Road, this fully fenced inclusive play space might be on the smaller scale, but it has all the sensory play elements and equipment for kids of all ages to enjoy and makes a good pit-stop to let the kids loose when you are around the area. Mrs Herbert’s Park in Claremont is the perfect spot to spend a few hours now that the weather is warming up. Mrs Herbert’s Park is situated right on the calm waters of Freshwater Bay in Claremont. There is a little carpark alongside the Freshwater Bay Museum which is next door the park. The museum is unfortunately closed all this year for renovations, but we can’t wait to go back when it re-opens!. This museum was originally Mrs Herbert’s school, hence the name! Pine Park is a hidden gem in Darlington, in the Perth Hills. I grew up in the hills and my parents still live there. On today’s visit we thought we’d try somewhere different to the usual park. I’m glad we did, it was a very pleasant morning and more importantly little Miss had a great time. It is a small playground with a castle theme. Seacrest Park in Sorrento ticks a lot of boxes for parents and carers. Fully fenced playground – tick. Large range of playground equipment suitable for various ages – tick. A picnic table and seating within the fenced space – double tick. So it’s unsurprising the area can get a little busy, especially after school. Manning Park in Spearwood is the perfect spot to take the kids out for a picnic and play in the park. The reserve is huge with four car parks in total and plenty of wide open grassed areas. The playground itself is quite amazing, plenty for all ages, stages and abilities. There are shade sails over each section and plenty of trees to pull up under too. Piney Lakes Reserve Sensory Play Park in Winthrop is located on Murdoch Drive just off Leach Highway. As you walk through the main entrance of the playground there is a lighthouse painted by local artist Brenton See overlooking the sand and water play areas. The sand play includes pulleys, wheels, and a conveyor belt, great for children to explore and be hands-on with sand as well as encouraging social interaction and teamwork. In the heart of Armadale, you will find Memorial Park. As of September 2018, the City of Armadale has reopened the park with a new train theme, which is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages! Riverton Jetty playground is located next to the Lo Quay River Cafe in Wilson. Riverton Jetty playground is a nature based playground that features 2 slides, 2 swings, a spinning rope frame, a hammock swing and lots of different balance/walking challenges. The new Tomato Lake all-abilities playground has opened and it appears to be a big hit as it was very busy when we visited. The playground is in front between the cafe and the bbq picnic area. The bbq area has also been refreshed with new picnic tables. The playground has been designed to suit toddlers through to older kids, including those with disabilities. The newly completed Lions Park is a race track/road inspired park. It is only a small park but if you have a little one who is learning to scoot or ride this would be a good park to practice at. My little girl is scooter crazy at the moment so she really enjoyed herself. Features include a petrol pump and road signs. Stirling Civic Gardens Stirling Civic Gardens is a hidden gem. Concealed from the road, it is a lovely park with manicured gardens and plenty of shade provided by the large trees. Found overlooking the Swan River and Fremantle’s bustling port, is the fantastic Tuckfield Oval playground where you might even spot a rainbow! The newish play area is in East Fremantle, near to the George Street coffee strip, is close to the iconic shipping container “rainbow” too. Just a hop, skip and jump across the road. Tucked away off James Spiers Drive is Regent Waters Playground, a small suburban playground. The location borders on Lake Joondalup and is very peaceful and pretty with birdlife and clusters of shady trees. Regent Waters Playground is sandbased and surrounded by plenty of grass with three large sheltered picnic tables scattered at intervals. Robinson Reserve, Tuart Hill As of July 2019, Robinson Reserve in Tuart Hill has a new playground. Covered by shade sails, this play area is full of fun for kids from tots to teens. Miss 5 has been excitedly waiting for the new playground to open. So as soon as the fences came down we wandered over for a look.
