The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Located across from the WA Museum Boola Bardip is the Perth Cultural Centre Playspace, a quirky little play space which has a heavy focus on sensory play. The Playspace is fully fenced and gated and it is open daily from 8am – 7pm. It is recommended that the playspace is suitable most for children aged 6 – 13 years but children under that age can get a lot out of it too. Miles Park, Cloverdale is a local suburban park and a little gem. There’s a decent traditional sand based park which features swings, a slide and climbing structure. Walk around to the other side of the community centre and you will find a recently constructed, fully fenced and shaded, toddler playground. This features soft fall ground, a basket swing, musical elements, a play structure and slide. My girls love racing around this little park. In the heart of Beldon is Haddington Park Public Playground. It’s a mix of traditional play equipment and nature play. It’s a real gem with something for everyone. The main play structure in the playground is surrounded with soft white sand, and features a slide, a fireman pole, a steering wheel, climbing ropes, monkey bars and ladders. If you’re looking for a playground close to the city and cafes, then Oxford Street Reserve Playground might be the way to go. Located right at the Leederville cafe strip, this fenced and gated playground is sure to be a winner. Adjacent to Cranked Coffee, you can easily grab a coffee, or maybe breakfast or lunch, and take the kids for a play. The Burns Beach Playground is found at a grassy park, overlooking Burns Beach. It’s location, as well as it being slap, bang opposite the delicious Sista’s Burns Beach Café, make it an ideal spot to combine a play at the park with a swim, walk along the coastal pathway or family meal. Calleya Grandis playground is packed full of features suitable for all ages. The extensive climbing rope structure provides a great ninja course or a “Floor is Lava” challenge. Wyong Reserve in Bentley is a great little park with a lot going on. The playground is fully fenced and has a pathway running around it that is designed as a road to ride scooters and bikes along. There a few large speed humps, and we said next time we come we will have to bring the scooter. There are benches around the playground and an undercover area with BBQs and picnic benches. Close to the cafe strip in Mount Lawley, we discovered a lush, green park with a shaded playground, lawn to run on and paths to ride a bike or scooter. The play equipment here includes a traditional playground with various climbing ladders, a fireman pole, a chain bridge for balancing, a twisty slide, monkey bars and a flying fox. Cheltondale Park is a gorgeous little park, with two innovative playground areas, which has recently sprung up in the suburb of Madeley in the City of Wanneroo. The park is filled with over 100 mature trees and bountiful natural bush areas, as well as green lawns ideal for picnics under the shade of the trees. Piney Lakes Reserve Sensory Play Park in Winthrop is located on Murdoch Drive just off Leach Highway. As you walk through the main entrance of the playground there is a lighthouse painted by local artist Brenton See overlooking the sand and water play areas. The Russell Brown Adventure Park in Mosman Park is located in Minim Cove, on the bank of the Swan River, just beyond the Mosman Park Tennis Club. Herdsman Lake Regional Park is a great location for a family walk, play and picnic. There are 2 playgrounds around the lake, one at Glendalough Open Space and the other at Popeye Lake Parkland. Glendalough Open Space is a lovely little play area with parking directly next to it off the main road access. Augustus Park located in Jane Brook is situated overlooking a beautiful lake. The main play area is mainly made up of ropes which is something different to the usual playground. The brand new Myella Estate nestled on the northern banks of Lake Joondalup is home to a super fun playground worthy of exploring! The Rivergums Adventure Park is a monster inspired nature-based adventure playground and is the perfect place to let your child’s imagination run wild! From the moment my 2 year old spotted the huge monster feet he was roaring with excitement!!! Noah’s Playground opened in October 2018 in the beautiful Rosehill Waters Estate, South Guildford, the playground is inspired by the story of Noah’s Arc and is perfect for adventurous kids! The main feature is a huge wooden structure with three towers joined by suspension bridges and a tunnel slide in the middle. As we pulled up to this new playground at Frasers Landing in Mandurah the first word out of both my kid’s mouths was “WOW” – the bright red playground is definitely eye-catching!!! The main play structure replicates a bird’s nest which ties into the naturalistic lifestyle of Frasers Landing. The Swanbourne Beach Foreshore Playground is set in between the beach and The Shorehouse Restaurant. This is a fantastic spot to grab a picnic or BBQ and let the kids run around the grassed area and play in the small pirate themed fenced playground. Livvi’s Place Playground in Whiteman Edge in Brabham is a unique $1.5 million all-inclusive playground which is a result of a partnership between Stockland and the Touched By Olivia Foundation. The snazzy new playground and skate park at Stirk Park has just opened (Nov 2023) after a long-awaited redevelopment. Harbour View Park is a partially fenced toddler friendly playground in Hillarys. The playground consists of a boat inspired climbing frame, with small ladders, a rock climbing wall, enclosed slide, steering wheel and speaking tube. Rivergums Park in Baldivis is a great little park. It has a small play equipment area suitable for Toddlers and Climbing Equipment for the older kids. There is also a big Flying Fox & Platform for the older kids (and adults too!). There is plenty of grassed areas for picnics and also benches placed throughout for sitting and watching the kids play. Hardcastle Park, Landsdale Located in family-friendly Landsdale, Hardcastle Park is a delightful new playground for kids of all ages. Featuring nature play, tradition play equipment and a picnic space, it’s a great space to hang out with the family. On arriving, I was first struck by the large grassed area.
