The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

A new nature play area has opened at Warradale Park in Landsdale, built in memory of toddler Sam Trott. If you’re looking for a playground to suit active older kids and younger siblings, Crimea Skate Park and Playground might be just the play space for you. The skate park was opened in March 2008, and features a number of ramps, rails and ledges. Tucked away in inner city suburb is Mabel Talbot Park. The absolute gem of a park has not just one, but two playgrounds! Mabel Talbot Park is fairly compact, but my word a lot is packed into this wonderful space built around a small lake! The new Palmerston Square playground in Bassendean is NOW OPEN and ready to be explored! The old playground equipment has been replaced by a beautiful wooden playground. The environment is a really lovely green space, with shade from the many trees that have been planted, plus the existing established trees. We recently stopped at the new Ernest Johnson Reserve playground in South Perth. This is a great little playground with plenty for mixed ages, a large oval and bbq facilities. There is also a carpark with plenty of parking. The space is suitable for dogs with a drinking fountain and doggy bowl but dogs must stay out the playground. If you are looking for a small but mighty suburban playground in the northern suburbs, the brand new playground at Drimmie Park in Clarkson has you covered. A few years ago I wrote the original blog on Pioneer Avon Park, which is located on banks of Avon River in York, fast forward to 2020 the park is unrecognisable! The playground is nature-based and features recycled timber seating throughout, sheltered picnic tables, BBQs, toilets and plenty of shade! Our recent visit to Neon Park in Allara Estate, a vibrant neighbourhood in Eglinton, 49km north of Perth City, is a delightful blend of nature, creativity, and family bonding. Located in one of Hammond Park’s newest estates, Vivente, Parco Park playground is just a stone’s throw away from The Scramble Parkour Park. This sand-based playground is toddler-friendly, with various play structures for kids to explore. The playground is currently shaded with sail shades. Lathlain Park is found to the north of Mineral Resources Park – aka the home of the mighty West Coast Eagles! It’s a lovely little spot, across the road from the small but mighty Lathlain cafe strip, and larger playgrounds at both Rayment Park and Tom Wright Park. Fontana Park is a brand new (April 2022) little park is hidden away in Trinity Estate, Alkimos. Whilst not big, it kept my 3 children busy for easily over an hour. There is a huge log swing which they loved and lots of room for everyone! The rock climbing wall was popular with my younger 2 children, which takes you up to the epic slide! Just 5 minutes drive from Garden City Shopping Centre, atop Wireless Hill, is a beautiful is Wireless Hill Nature Playspace. We arrived in the middle of the day, and amazingly the play area is naturally shaded by the surrounding trees, even at noon. South Perth Esplanade Playground is set within the Sir James Mitchell Park and is a short walk from the Mends Street Jetty making this an ideal playground to visit on public transport. The playground is sand based and covered with shade sails. On a recent road trip, we took a detour through Northam, the detour was originally to check out the Northam Suspension Bridge, which is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in Australia. After crossing the bridge, which was well worth the visit (until the kids thought it was fun to make it sway), we discovered Bernard Park which features two fully fenced play areas, a water playground, sculptures, amphitheatre, picnic and BBQ facilities and public toilets. Langley Park Playground is an ideal playground if you’re visiting the city on a family day trip as it’s conveniently located in East Perth. The playground is suitable for kids age 3yrs plus (despite the sign saying 4yrs) and there are toilets directly next to the park. The park is covered with shade sails and is partially fenced. Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup is a park more suited to the under 5’s. The playground is partially enclosed and is quite compact and easy to keep track of little ones. It features play equipment in the guise of a train engine and its carriages with each carriage providing a different feature. This brand new nature adventure playground is located right next to the Coolbellup Skate Park just behind the Coolbellup Public Library. It is a fabulous play space that has been built around the huge existing trees, which provide shade to a large majority of the playground throughout the day. The very cute SS Wyola steam tug inspired playground has opened up in North Coogee along side the North Coogee dog beach at the end of Robb & Rollinson Roads. At the first part of the tug boat has rope ladders leading up to the helm and a clear view out to sea including a speaking tube to command the crew. Deep Water Point reserve in Mount Pleasant is a very popular spot for swimming, boating, water sports, picnics and birthday parties. There’s lots of fun elements packed into this compact playground including a little nature play, as well as thinks to keep active and fit. Atwell Oval Playground has had a complete upgrade and it’s quite awesome! The main feature is a large spider-web climbing frame. There are a smaller climbing spider-web frame and monkey bars.
