Adventurescape in the Austin Lakes Estate at South Yunderup is a true destination Playground and an easy day trip from Perth. Around an hour’s drive south of the city and about 15 minutes from Mandurah, this award‑winning, farmyard‑themed park wraps a huge Playground around a pretty lake, with plenty of space for kids of all ages to roam, climb and explore. Designed as one of Perth’s “best Playgrounds” and a hero feature of the Austin Lakes development, it’s become a spot families are happy to travel for.

The star of the park is the towering windmill climbing frame. Standing around 8.5–9 metres high, this custom-built structure challenges confident climbers with platforms and rope elements before rewarding them with a super‑fast enclosed slide back to the ground. You can hear voices echoing down the slide tube well before kids shoot out the bottom, so it’s easy to keep track of who’s coming next. It’s a real thrill ride for school‑aged children and tweens; younger or more cautious kids may prefer to watch until they build up their bravery.

Keeping with the farm theme, Adventurescape is dotted with quirky, climbable features that invite imaginative play. There’s a giant pink pig that doubles as a cubby and slide, life‑size fibreglass and timber farm animals to clamber over, and old tractors half‑submerged in the sand — perfect for little farmers to “drive” while you snap photos.

The whole space feels like a farmyard exploded into a Playground, with different textures, levels and nooks encouraging kids to make up their own games rather than just move from one standard piece of equipment to the next.

For kids who love to move, there’s lots of action play. A 35‑metre flying fox (zipline) runs across the sand and is a massive favourite; it’s designed with kids in mind, so adults who try to sneak a turn may find themselves dragging along the ground.

Nearby you’ll find traditional and multi‑person swings (including a five/six‑way swing), a rope climbing challenge, balancing beams, a fence maze, see‑saws and various spinning and bouncing pieces. Together, they create a good mix of gross‑motor challenges for older children and gentler options for younger siblings.

The Playground sits within a large, landscaped park built around a lake. On one side of the water is the main play zone; beyond that are big stretches of open lawn ideal for ball games, frisbee and running races. The surrounding parkland was designed with sustainability in mind, using durable natural materials like steel, timber and brick in the structures, and planting dominated by native south‑west WA species, many of them local to the area.

The lake itself gives the whole park a relaxed, “holiday” feel. There’s a small sandy beach area beside the water, and families often bring along kayaks or canoes to paddle on the lake. Swimming in the lake is not permitted, so it’s best to save the full swim for another spot and use this water area for supervised splashing at the edge or for launching non‑motorised craft instead. As always, close supervision around water is important, especially as the Playground is unfenced and the lake is a short walk from the main play equipment.

Adventurescape is very well set up for picnics, BBQs and group gatherings. Around the Playground and along the lakefront you’ll find multiple picnic shelters and gazebos, many with free gas barbecues and picnic tables. There’s also a large lakeside pavilion overlooking the open lawn, which works well as a central meeting point for bigger family catch‑ups or casual birthday parties.

Amenities are solid for a day out with kids. There are toilets, including accessible/unisex facilities, located near the car park and close to the main play area. Paths around the park are mostly flat, making it pram‑friendly, and parking is available on‑site and along nearby streets. Because the Playground and park are set within a residential estate, it generally feels safe and community‑focused, but it can get busy on weekends and during school holidays.
Overall, Adventurescape is much more than a quick stop‑off Playground. With its imaginative farm theme, big-ticket equipment, huge lawn areas and lakeside setting, it easily fills a few hours and works beautifully as a whole‑day outing when combined with a picnic or BBQ. If you’re looking for a destination Playground in the Mandurah/Peel region that will excite both little kids and bigger thrill‑seekers, this one more than earns its reputation.
