Parks with natural shade or shade sails are perfect for keeping children safer in these conditions.

Ahoy Sailors! Shipwreck Park is a nautical-themed playground located 36km South-East of Perth in Sienna Wood, Hilbert. Sienna Wood’s Explorer Park is a multi-use space suitable for all ages, interests and abilities. The main feature of the playground is the ‘Tree of Life’, which is an 8m high climbing structure with tunnel slides. The climb to the first slide is just stairs, making it easy for little explorers to navigate. Reaching the bigger slide involves climbing ropes so it a little trickier for younger children. Located in the heart of the new community at Mandogalup, Florence Estate Park is the new playground that beautifully incorporates wooden beams for its play equipment. This spacious playground is nested beside rows of mature trees, providing scenic greenery, and playing in the park feels like you’re right next to nature. At our weekly shop on Saturday we were very excited to see that Floreat Forum shopping centre has just opened a new playground in the outdoor area by the cafes/restaurants. Previously there had just been a couple of small things for toddlers to play on but now there is a proper playground complete with shade sails. Tucked away in inner city suburb is Mabel Talbot Park. The absolute gem of a park has not just one, but two playgrounds! Mabel Talbot Park is fairly compact, but my word a lot is packed into this wonderful space built around a small lake! Yokine Reserve Playground is a fabulous space for kids of all ages! The playground is fully fenced and double-gated, which is perfect for containing little escape artists. The play equipment is a mix of traditional playground equipment and sensory and nature play. My kids and I visit a lot of playgrounds… but the brand new Wandi Playing Fields Playground is hands down our favourite playground in Perth (big call right!) – while there is no crazy slide or huge tower, there is lots of different play areas and something for kids of all ages and abilities! Grenville Reserve is a hidden gem of a park located in the heart of Tuart Hill. It is located on the corner of Stoneham and Hector Streets, behind Tuart College. This park features a playground that would suit children of various ages and skill levels. Mt Henry Bridge Reserve, Mount Pleasant Mount Henry Bridge Reserve is a multi-use recreation area on the river in Mount Pleasant. It is situated in the shadow of the Mt Henry Bridge, and has a great kids playground and an on-site cafe. The first thing we did on arriving was grab some lunch at the Kerbside Cafe. If you’re looking for a peaceful playground surrounded by trees and birds singing, then playground at Ian Robbins Park is for you. Situated at the centre of the park is a great playground, which has recently been upgraded with new equipment and fresh white sand. While Colour Block Park (The LEGO Park) may not be overly big, it definitely has the WOW factor! The main feature is a climbing structure made up of large brightly coloured building blocks. Cantwell Park in Pinjarra is a brilliant stop on a road trip to WA’s south west. The massive park is right in the heart of the town, on the banks of the Murray River. We recently found a new bee themed park in Beckenham. The park has bee themed play equipment and hexagonal design features keeping the bee theme. In the largest hexagonal the play equipment features a bee platform with a slide that is accessed from a wooden bridge or climbing ropes on either side. Gingin is a small and quaint township with a mighty new playground that is jam-packed with features and caters for children of all ages! Nestled in the heart of Dianella is the lovely Wake Pola Reserve. This parkland has a good sized playground with shade sails and natural shading. The playground features a large play structure with two slides, a noughts and crosses game, shop front, fireman pole and flying fox. Rickman Delawney Reserve, Balcatta The playground at Rickman Delawney Reserve in the leafy suburb of Balcatta has recently undergone an upgrade. Gone is the dated old playground, and in it’s place stands a new climbing structure with a huge slide, toddler equipment and lots more! The whole family will enjoy this new play area. Set right in the middle of the new, vibrant dining and entertainment precinct at Westfield Whitford City is a beautifully unique play area for children. Overlooked by many of the restaurants and sheltered underneath shade sails, the play area is unlike any I’ve ever seen before. Allure North Park is the latest playground in the Calleya Estate, Treeby and it does not disappoint. The main attraction is the Junior BMX Pump Track that is enjoyed by BMX riders, general bike riders, skateboarders and those on scooters! My 8yr old tested out the track on her bicycle and gave it the big thumbs up! Clarko Reserve is a coastal reserve located at Trigg Beach at the end of Karrinyup Road. The jewel colours of the verdant green grass and shimmering blue sea beyond the dunes is a feast for the eyes. At a sheltered end of the reserve, near the beach car park, is a good sized playground with equipment to suit a range of children. Hobart Street Playground is situated on the corner of Hobart and Auckland Streets in North Perth. Being a small neighbourhood park it doesn’t have fancy play equipment, BBQs, picnic tables or toilets.
