Just outside of Mandurah, tucked away in suburbia is Meadow Springs Quarry Adventure Park. Its size is deceiving from the road, with a lush green grassed area and playground visible, however, it extends back and down into the quarry. The first playground you come across is a traditional style one, with a lovely big spider net swing, fun stepping stones, slides, stairs, climbing challenges and some rockers. Today we tried out the new playground at Richardson Park in South Perth, just near the Perth Zoo. We found it to have a good range of equipment for a range of ages and it backs onto a large expanse of grass for ball games or running around. The park is small and narrow but packed with equipment including musical pipes, stainless steel drums, talk tubes, lots of climbing and a big slide. It is a sand based playground. Tucked behind the Mundaring Village shopping centre is Lion Pioneer Park, a large grassed area with a playground, park benches and a covered picnic table. It can be found off the Stoneville Road entrance or via ramp or stairs from the shopping centre near the Post Office. The play equipment and grass is shaded naturally by the large trees around the area. We visited late afternoon and it was well shaded. In the middle of Victoria Park along busy Albany Hwy you will find Read Park. It is a lovely green, shady park situated next to the Victoria Park Community garden. The play equipment has been situated away from the highway and one of the play areas is enclosed with a fence. The area also has toilets, including an accessible toilet, drink fountain, rubbish bins and bench seats. Harbour View Park is a partially fenced toddler friendly playground in Hillarys. The playground consists of a boat inspired climbing frame, with small ladders, a rock climbing wall, enclosed slide, steering wheel and speaking tube. The rubber softfall flooring is perfect for my toddler who is a sand eater. Other equipment includes two white rocking horses, and a set of swings, with one toddler swing and one normal swing. Forrest Place Perth Water Labyrinth – no longer can you venture into the City of Perth to do a spot of shopping with the kids in tow and expect them to stay dry. In the centre of Forrest Place you will find the water Labyrinth Fountain and it’s fabulous fun! The $1.3 million water sculpture at Forrest place is the work of Danish artist Jeppe Hein. The Rainbow Waters Playground is located opposite the library in Ellenbrook. It is an award-winning free to use water park and was one of the first water parks in Perth to use the splash pad surface. The water park incorporates ‘innovative, environmental and sustainable elements, while also providing an attractive and creative playspace’. The water park is closed in the cooler months and re-opens September until May daily from 9.00am – 7.00pm. The Elizabeth Water Park is an interactive water feature located at Elizabeth Quay, which at 1000 square metres is over three times the size of the Water Labyrinth in Forrest Place. The Water Park is located right opposite the Elizabeth Quay train station so it is easily accessible via public transport. Cockburn Central Water Playground – On the Success side of the Cockburn Central train station, there is a fantastic water playground and large grassy area. The water playground spouts are turned on by an easy push of a button and they run through various different patterns which keep the kids guessing where they are going to pop up next! Situated close by to Subiaco Train Station and Domain Stadium is the pretty and peaceful Market Square Park. We discovered the park after a visit to a nearby cafe, and Miss almost 3 loved it! It was quiet and leafy, full of birdsong with the sound of the occasional train going by. Robinson Reserve, Tuart Hill As of July 2019, Robinson Reserve in Tuart Hill has a new playground. Covered by shade sails, this play area is full of fun for kids from tots to teens. Miss 5 has been excitedly waiting for the new playground to open. So as soon as the fences came down we wandered over for a look. Marri Park is a great little spot to take the kids to burn off some extra energy. This park is also dog-friendly, so you could even bring your fur baby along. There is a large grass oval with soccer goals at the top end of the park, so don’t forget your ball for a kick around.
