Caff on Broadway, Bassendean

Caff on Broadway in Bassendean is a cosy cafe with a vintage feel and a colourful family area. It’s a great spot for a bite on the go or to meet a friend.

On arriving, Miss 6 was drawn to the colourful fenced patio around. This has been painted with bright cartoon characters, Dora and Sponge Bob. This area has a mag-lock gate to keep littler ones off the nearby roads. There’s enough room to park a pram or stroller.

Heading inside, I noticed the front door has an upcycled vintage tool as a handle. A lovely homage to the area’s railway and industrial past. Inside, the floors are wooden, as is the furniture. The seats are lined with thick emerald green cushions and there is lovely artwork on the walls. The building is a vintage shop renovated to a cafe. With this in mind, it’s a little snug inside. Prams and strollers will be a bit big to fit inside. On the other hand, a sleeping babe in a capsule or toddler snuggled in your arms would be fine.

At the counter, a glass cabinet is full of cakes, pastries and tarts and more. Jars and covered glass platters hold cookies and muffins. We felt overwhelmed with choices! I chose a lemon tart and a takeaway latte, and Miss 6 opted for a cute little mini cupcake. The cupcake as topped with pretty rainbow frosting. We sat outside to soak up the sunshine and enjoy the flower boxes that fringe the outdoor seating.

In addition to these delicious treats, Caff on Broadway also serves up hot mains and breakfasts for those dining in. For example, children would enjoy the Belgian waffles or just a simple bowl of hot chips. Adults however may enjoy the homemade baked beans with toast, Moroccan chicken salad or shakshuka. The menu includes dairy-free and vegetarian options to suit these dietary needs.

If you’re just on the go, you may want to grab a warm pastry or a toastie. Why not try the banana bread, a savoury muffin or grab a panini for lunch for instance? Caff on Broadway regularly has a $10 coffee and a toastie deal.

During the school holidays just gone, there was also a kids deal, which included a ham and cheese croissant, a mini cupcake and a hot chocolate for $10. Excellent value! Check Caff on Broadway’s Facebook page to see if this offer is during future school holidays.

If you’re on the go, Caff on Broadway is conveniently located across the road from Bassendean Train Station. It’s walking distance from Bassendean Memorial Library and 5 minutes drive from Mary Crescent Reserve‘s nature playground.

To sum up, this is a convenient spot to stop for lunch or a snack. Likewise, Caff on Broadway would be a great spot for a cosy breakfast with your partner or a friend. We’ll certainly to stop off here on our next visit to Bassendean.
