ANZAC Day Events in Perth

ANZAC Day is a solemn time to remember those who gave their lives in past wars. It can be the perfect time to discuss and teach your children about these events whilst paying tribute to these great men and woman. If youโ€™re looking for family-friendly events and activities, then Buggybuddys has you covered. Check out our list of ANZAC-themed events around Perth including parades, services, breakfasts and more. There’s sure to be something to suit everyone.

Please keep in mind if you have a child with sensory sensitivities to noise that there may be Flypasts performed by the RAAF. We will update our post with these details when/if they become available.

Anzac At Home Ideas

Can’t get out to an Anzac Day event with small kids or due to health issues? Not to worry! You can always observe at home. Why not create some Anzac themed crafts with the kids or bake some Anzac biscuits? The Australian War Memorial website has a list of ideas for the whole family, starting with making paper Anzac poppies.

Another fun craft idea is to make Anzac Day lanterns to light up the dawn on Anzac Day. Be A Fun Mum blog has some easy instructions on how to upcycle a milk bottle into a colourful lantern. Battery operated candles are a flame-free option to avoid burns.

Historical Voices: An Anzac Author Talk with Emily Paull and Melinda Tognini

This ANZAC Day, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served, and the communities that supported them. Join us for a special author talk that brings these stories to life, connecting the past to the present through powerful narratives of hope, remembrance, and the enduring human spirit. We are thrilled to welcome:

Emily Paull โ€” The Distance Between Dreams

Emily Paullโ€™s historical novel The Distance Between Dreams brings to life the experiences of Australians during and after the Second World War. Through richly drawn characters and evocative storytelling, Emily explores how hope, love, and resilience endure even in the most challenging times. Sheโ€™ll share her research, inspiration, and the craft behind telling stories that honour the sacrifices of the past.

Melinda Tognini โ€” Many Hearts, One Voice

Melinda Togniniโ€™s Many Hearts, One Voice tells the remarkable story of the War Widowsโ€™ Guild in Western Australia, chronicling how ordinary women came together to support each other and make their voices heard in the aftermath of war. Melinda will reveal how she uncovered these stories and why remembering the courage of women is an essential part of ANZAC commemoration.   ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Emily Paull is a Western Australian librarian and author, shortlisted for the 2023 Fogarty Literary Award for The Distance Between Dreams. She writes fiction that explores history, identity, and human connection. Melinda Tognini is a writer and mentor whose work highlights untold stories of courage and community. Many Hearts, One Voice celebrates the legacy of the War Widowsโ€™ Guild in WA and the strength of women who faced the challenges of wartime loss.   Important Information
