Neil Hawkins Park, Joondalup
Neil Hawkins Park, on the banks of Lake Joondalup, is a favourite among parents of tiny tots for its toddler friendly train play area and scenic surroundings. Partially shaded by trees, BBQs, picnic tables and expansive lawns make it a good spot for a gathering (be sure to pack mozzie repellent). Plus, take along bats and balls for a game of table tennis. Public toilets are conveniently located nearby. Take a stroll to the water’s edge to spot water birds from the jetty. Tom Simpson Park, Mullaloo
Located in the heart of Mullaloo, Tom Simpson Park offers a vibrant playground that caters to children of all ages. The sand-fall playground (partly shaded in summer) is dominated by a large wooden fort-like structure, best for older kids, as all the ways to the top are via climbing nets. Plus, there’s plenty of lawns to kick a ball, throw down a rug and enjoy a picnic. Public toilets are located nearby, close to the beach. MacDonald Park, Padbury
MacDonald Park features an amazing scooter and bike skills track (complete with road signs and speed humps) for young children, plus nature and traditional play elements and even a huge sporting oval – there is something for all ages here! A fuel station and ice cream truck to encourage children to interact and allows for fun role-play. Iluka Foreshore Park
Iluka Foreshore Park features a great little playground, as well as plenty of space for a ball game and BBQ after a trip to the beach. Whitford Nodes Playground, Health and Wellbeing Hub, Hillarys
Whitfords Nodes Health and Wellbeing Hub has been dubbed Jacob’s Ladder of the north due to the 21m fitness staircase. The multipurpose fitness hub is not only for fitness junkies, it also a great spot for families to stay fit and active together. Whitfords Nodes has mix of traditional play equipment, as well as a super fun ninja warrior course that will keep kids amused after a swim. Shepherds Bush Park, Kingsley
Pack your scooters and bikes for a fun-filled play on the road-like scooter track at Shepherds Bush. There is also a pump track for bigger kids to let loose on their BMXs. Mawson Park has a traditional playground that offers a variety of play equipment suitable for different age groups. The ship-themed Burns Beach Playground, is found opposite the delicious Sista’s Burns Beach Café, making it the perfect spot to combine a play at the park with a swim, walk along the coastal pathway or family brunch.
