Perth’s newest beachside playground, Capricorn Beach Foreshore Adventure Playground, is now open. The FUNtastic ocean-themed playground is perfect for kids of all ages and is located just minutes away from the Yanchep Lagoon. There’s a new (opened November 2023) playground in the Perth foothills suburb of Bushmead! While it’s much smaller than the estate’s “Giant Park”, the Treetop Park Playground has plenty of equipment for kids that love to explore and climb. It’s shaded by mature trees too! The 6-meter timber tower structure features a tube slide (currently under repair – Dec ’23). Very small children may have trouble reaching this, as there’s a steep ladder to climb to get to it. In a hidden pocket of Hillarys, lies a freshly revamped kids playground set amongst the leafy trees and green lawns of Broadbeach Park. This picturesque park boasts a gorgeous lake with black swans and ducks gliding on its tranquil water, and pretty pathways to walk and scoot on. The newly completed Lions Park is a race track/road inspired park. It is only a small park but if you have a little one who is learning to scoot or ride this would be a good park to practice at. My little girl is scooter crazy at the moment so she really enjoyed herself. Features include a petrol pump and road signs. Nestled just behind the Subiaco Arts Centre, Subiaco Theatre Gardens Playspace is a lovely oasis of grass, trees, and nature play.   A fountain that creates a trickling brook runs down the centre of the park. Being only a couple of minutes’ drive off Indian Ocean Drive makes Ledge Point a great little stopover, either for a 5 minute break or a couple of days. Next door to the new Wembley Sports Pavilion, there is a brand new playground, just opened as of 18th January 2017. We were lucky to be some of the first people to put it to the test. Wembley Sports Pavilion Playground combines a great mix of nature play and traditional play equipment. As we walked across from the carpark, the first thing we came to was some climbing logs and rubbery humps surrounded by wood chips and garden. Occupying a beautiful spot along the banks of the Swan River, Bardon Park in Maylands is a great spot to play! There are two playgrounds located at Bardon Park. The first, closest to the car park, is relatively new and contains some unique play equipment and a focus on nature play. You’ll find a birds nest swing. A net bridge A couple of balancing beams. Brown Park is a grassy park with shady trees and a playground covered by shade sails set among the leafy streets of Mosman Park. It’s a spot that’s sure to have something to appeal to everyone. Hawaiian’s Mezz Playground, Mount Hawthorn   Recently Hawaiian’s Mezz in Mount Hawthorn upgraded their children’s playground to a new nature play style setup. This new playground engages children from toddlers to tweens, and is a great place to stop off whilst getting your shopping done. The main part of the playground is a new wooden play structure. Considering Wanneroo is built on old market garden land, it is very fitting that the recently upgraded Frederick Duffy Park is farming themed. This great little park has something for everyone.   Set amongst mature gum trees the park has plenty of shade for playing and picnics. Cracknell Park in Rivervale is a small park with lots to offer and it has recently had an upgrade to the play equipment. It is a small park with amazing river views, a basketball hoop, ping pong table and a good area of grass. There is a picnic bench near the play equipment. Found in the heart of a new housing estate, Mason Green Park in Piara Waters is a brilliant spot for a play. There’s lots of fun elements packed into this compact playground including a little nature play, as well as thinks to keep active and fit. The wooden play equipment is partly shaded by shade sails and built on a mix of woodchip and soft fall base. And there’s lots to explore… There’s a nest swing, perfect for lounging around in! Britannia Reserve Pump Track   Britannia Reserve Pump Track is a 1.2km pump track and nature bike trail in Leederville. Close to the city, it’s a great spot to take active kids of all ages out riding. Britannia Reserve Pump Track was originally installed as part of a Pop-Up Play initiative in April 2019. It has quickly become a permanent fixture. Britannia Reserve is one of City of Vincent’s largest open parklands. The pump track was created using natural materials. CY O’Connor Hub Playground is a lovely drive to Mundaring Weir, through Perth’s Hills. You can get there from Kalamunda or Mundaring. Not only is the huge dam essential to WA’s water supply, but it’s a lovely spot for a family picnic. There are historical, natural, play and educational attractions in the “CY O’Connor Hub”, which is found on the north side of the weir, accessed by a road behind the Mundaring Weir Hotel. Delamere Park Playground in Currambine delivers on everything you want to keep kids aged 2yrs onwards entertained and active for hours.  The only thing it doesn’t deliver on is shade and this park does sit on a main thoroughfare road. Morris Mundy Reserve is a lovely reserve in Kensington with basketball and netball hoop, cricket wickets, football goals, large green oval, picnic tables and a new shaded playground. The reserve backs onto houses on three sides although not fully fenced is fairly safe as it’s a long way between the playground equipment and the road. The playground is shaded by shade sails and large well-established tree. I could only see one picnic table but we put down a picnic rug under the tree shade and it was lovely. Miles Park, Cloverdale is a local suburban park and a little gem. There’s a decent traditional sand based park which features swings, a slide and climbing structure. Walk around to the other side of the community centre and you will find a recently constructed, fully fenced and shaded, toddler playground. This features soft fall ground, a basket swing, musical elements, a play structure and slide. My girls love racing around this little park. Kalamunda Water Park is an exciting summer destination located at 38 Collins Road in the Perth Hills. The facility features a 50m eight-lane Olympic sized swimming pool, wading pool, toddlers pool, and two huge tube water slides. Rotary Park in Wanneroo is one of our favourite playgrounds, the park originally opened in 1979 since then the space has undergone major developments and has been really well cared for by the City of Wanneroo. We especially love the diverse range of equipment and different play opportunity for kids of all ages. Hyde Park water playground is a fantastic spot to go and cool off in those warmer months. The water park has recently undergone an upgrade and now has new shade sails installed over the entire splash pad area. There is plenty of shade around the park also due to the large trees that are scattered all around. We visited Christmas eve and were expecting it to be really busy, but we were quite surprised as we managed to find a lovely spot under a tree (right near the splash pad) and have a picnic lunch. Have you checked out Ellenbrook Skate Park? If you have children that love to skate, next time you’re in the area be sure to throw the skateboards and scooters in your car. The skate park is located at Coolamon Oval, where there’s also lots of grassed space to kick a footy and a fenced dog park too. Dixon Park now has a fantastic new nature playground which is packed full with many fun features. There is a log tree house with various ways to get up to the top. You can choose to take the rope ladder; Or climb up the log notches; Monkey bars and a fireman pole also provide excellent challenging fun, especially climbing up the pole! On the hunt for a post-breakfast play spot in Wanneroo, I found myself spoilt for choice. Preferring to steer away from much-loved Rotary Park after a recent school holidays visit to Café Elixir, my toddler and I ended up at nearby Nyunda Park on Nannatee Way. The playground’s softfall was replaced in late 2022 and the play equipment is all relatively new.
