What’s great about parks with toilets?
Playgrounds and parks with toilets are a blessing when you’re toilet training! Many community parks are foregoing these facilities. However, if you’re in the middle of toilet-training or have a child with a tiny bladder, this may mean you only stay for an hour or so. Why not plan a longer play date? Find a park or playground with public toilets and make a morning or even a day or it!
In addition, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee on the way. Don’t forget your reusable coffee mug!

Ahoy Sailors! Shipwreck Park is a nautical-themed playground located 36km South-East of Perth in Sienna Wood, Hilbert. The newly completed Lions Park is a race track/road inspired park. It is only a small park but if you have a little one who is learning to scoot or ride this would be a good park to practice at. My little girl is scooter crazy at the moment so she really enjoyed herself. Features include a petrol pump and road signs. The infamous pirate ship playground at Heathcote Reserve in Applecross is probably one of the first few ‘super playgrounds’ in Perth. Pioneer Park is an unusual playspace situated next to the Canning River in Gosnells. The playground is below street level and you enter via a ‘tree top’ long walkway which is pram friendly and great fun for scooting down. Rosslare Park in Mindarie Marina is the perfect place to take children swimming. It’s a small beach in an enclave in the Marina. In the heart of Armadale, you will find Memorial Park. As of September 2018, the City of Armadale has reopened the park with a new train theme, which is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages! OPTUS STADIUM SENSORY PLAYGROUND – Smack in between the Camfield and the new bridge at Stadium park at Optus Stadium you will find a fully fenced sensory playground. This is a very well thought out, fun park! The first things my girls ran towards were the big rope climbing frame and the slide. Riverton Jetty playground is located next to the Lo Quay River Cafe in Wilson. Riverton Jetty playground is a nature based playground that features 2 slides, 2 swings, a spinning rope frame, a hammock swing and lots of different balance/walking challenges. Grenville Reserve is a hidden gem of a park located in the heart of Tuart Hill. It is located on the corner of Stoneham and Hector Streets, behind Tuart College. This park features a playground that would suit children of various ages and skill levels. Mt Henry Bridge Reserve, Mount Pleasant Mount Henry Bridge Reserve is a multi-use recreation area on the river in Mount Pleasant. It is situated in the shadow of the Mt Henry Bridge, and has a great kids playground and an on-site cafe. The first thing we did on arriving was grab some lunch at the Kerbside Cafe. Tucked behind the Mundaring Village shopping centre is Lion Pioneer Park, a large grassed area with a playground, park benches and a covered picnic table. It can be found off the Stoneville Road entrance or via ramp or stairs from the shopping centre near the Post Office. The play equipment and grass is shaded naturally by the large trees around the area. We visited late afternoon and it was well shaded. Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup is a park more suited to the under 5’s. The playground is partially enclosed and is quite compact and easy to keep track of little ones. It features play equipment in the guise of a train engine and its carriages with each carriage providing a different feature. The train engine houses a small slide which is great for crawlers and early walkers. Mirror Park in Ocean Reef is a large oval field and play area consisting of a playground suitable for toddlers, a skate park and toilet block. Parking surrounds the oval as well as set off from the main road in front of the playground. It’s not fenced or shaded so not suitable for toddlers prone to running off or during the height of summer. A few years ago I wrote the original blog on Pioneer Avon Park, which is located on banks of Avon River in York, fast forward to 2020 the park is unrecognisable! The playground is nature-based and features recycled timber seating throughout, sheltered picnic tables, BBQs, toilets and plenty of shade! Located on the north-west corner of Leatherback Oval in Alkimos Beach is a brand new Bike Safety Course that is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages! It features a realistic layout of Perth’s streets that gives children aged 4-11 years old hands on opportunities to learn pedestrian and bike travel safety skills. There is a new and exciting Pirate Playground has opened at Rockingham foreshore. The wooden Pirate Ship is situated at the far end of foreshore and is a very welcome addition! The pirate ship is set amongst trees and has views out to the ocean, a great location to get children’s imagination and play going. Kadidjiny Park, Melville Kadidjiny Park, also known as The Dr Seuss playground, is located in the suburb of Melville. With sensory elements, swings and slides, a picnic area and more, this park has something for the whole family. The playground is very different to your traditional playground. As a mum of a busy 2-year-old toddler, I couldn’t be more thrilled with Joondalup Square playground, located opposite the gigantic Bunnings Warehouse. As an added bonus, the well thought out open-air play area is surrounded by eateries! Joondalup Square playground is shaded by two shade sails and is fully fenced and gated. Fantasy Park at Waikiki is a large accessible park with plenty of play areas for kids to explore, a sensory garden with animal sculptures, a dog friendly park and also the home to Rockingham’s only disc golf course. It felt like we were walking into a fortress at first. There are two playgrounds located near the entrance, just alongside one another. JH Abrahams Reserve is a great park and playground located on the Swan River in Crawley. There is a shaded playground area, plenty of grass space for running and ball games, picnic tables, BBQs, drinking fountains, toilets and great views. There is a bike/walk path along the river if you want to include a walk or ride. The river is below the river wall and quite a distance from the playground. Set right in the middle of the new, vibrant dining and entertainment precinct at Westfield Whitford City is a beautifully unique play area for children. Overlooked by many of the restaurants and sheltered underneath shade sails, the play area is unlike any I’ve ever seen before. Forgoing traditional play equipment, which tends to be age specific, the mix of wooden stepping stones, ceramic arches and decorative metal poles appeared to appeal to children of all ages. Annie’s Landing District Playspace in Ellenbrook is a treat for both older and younger children. Annie’s Landing District Playspace is located at the very end of Bandrock Drive in Ellenbrook. Mueller Park Playspace is clean, fun, fresh and imaginative for all ages, but we love it especially for its safety, accessibility and appeal to toddlers. It is easily accessible from the train (Fremantle line, West Leederville stop), but parking can sometimes prove challenging. Visiting the cute seaside town of Horrocks is like stepping back in time. The coast used to be dotted with little fishing villages that were popular with holidaymakers, now most of these are suburbs! Variety Place Playground is located on Saw Avenue in Kings Park The natural design beautifully incorporates the bush, wood, rock and other pieces of nature. The previous park at Saw Avenue also used natural materials, and was enjoyed by Perth patrons for three generations! I love educating myself and the kids while we play! Banks Reserve is located in Mouth Lawley on the banks of the Swan River, the play space is bearly recognisable after an extensive redevelopment. The new nature-based playground has been cleverly designed around the huge preexisting trees which offer plenty of shade! Just North of the river, nestled within the shade trees, is a nature park like no other! The Russell Brown Adventure Park in Mosman Park is located in Minim Cove, on the bank of the Swan River, just beyond the Mosman Park Tennis Club. Rusell Brown adventure park blends in well with the bushland, and you would hardly even know it was there. Kalamunda’s Stirk Park was a favourite of mine, back in the 80s when I was growing up in the Perth Hills. The park has long been a popular location for mothers group get-togethers and family picnics. The snazzy new playground and skate park at Stirk Park has just opened (Nov 2023) after a long-awaited redevelopment.
