The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.
John Oldham Park is a bit of a hidden gem and the last place you would expect alongside a busy freeway intersection so close to the city, but once you have found it you will often find that you have the place to yourself, except for the odd cyclist on the path down to the Mounts Bay Road. Much of the parkland is surrounded by a lake and nature reserve, the car park is relatively small and is paid parking, but once you cross over the bridge you get straight to the playground and open space that kids can run Read more…
Located in the heart of the new community at Mandogalup, Florence Estate Park is the new playground that beautifully incorporates wooden beams for its play equipment. This spacious playground is nested beside rows of mature trees, providing scenic greenery, and playing in the park feels like you’re right next to nature. My girls headed straight to the main play area, where the big slide is. The tall climbing structure consists of different climbing wall panels for the kids to climb onto. Missy 6 had no trouble climbing onto all of them, but younger toddlers might find the tallest one daunting. Read more…
The Village West Playground at Whiteman Park has undergone a complete reconstruction with all new play equipment and shade sails. It’s a perfect park for summer days with almost the entire park covered by shade. It is still fully fenced with only one open entrance near the picnic tables. A brand new play space has just opened up at Centenary Park in Belmont and it’s so good! Designed for younger kids, the playground is fully fenced with a mixture of soft fall and sand. In the centre there is a main wooden structure which has a rope ladder and wooden ladders to climb up. The first platform has a bucket on a chain. The girls loved working together to pull the bucket up once I had filled it with sand for them. The second platform is like a little cubby house with a bench seat inside and leads to Read more…

Close to the Peninsula Estate area of Maylands, a new playground has been built at De Lacey Reserve. This playground has something for younger and older kids alike. The first thing Miss 4 spotted was the flying fox. This has a small tower to launch from and sand beneath should someone slip off mid-ride. Miss 4 loved it! It was her favourite part of the playground. We found smaller kids will need help bringing it to the tower as it’s hard work without a bit of muscle. So parents, don’t be surprised if you get roped in for that job! Read more…
Next door to the new Wembley Sports Pavilion, there is a brand new playground, just opened as of 18th January 2017. We were lucky to be some of the first people to put it to the test.
