Hyde Park water playground is a fantastic spot to go and cool off in those warmer months. The water park has recently undergone an upgrade and now has new shade sails installed over the entire splash pad area. There is plenty of shade around the park also due to the large trees that are scattered all around. We visited Christmas eve and were expecting it to be really busy, but we were quite surprised as we managed to find a lovely spot under a tree (right near the splash pad) and have a picnic lunch. What started as a family day out at Hamelin Bay, ended at the small seaside town after a trip to the Augusta Hospital (gotta love a fishhook in the leg!). Just off of Main Street in Balcatta is Conway Reserve, a bright, colourful playground surrounded by a grassy park. Conway Reserve is partially fenced with a path running from Harrison Street to Archibald Street, and a large grassed area for ball games or exercising the dog. The playground structure features two slides of different sizes, climbing ladders, a fireman pole, a tunnel and a bridge. Miles Park, Cloverdale is a local suburban park and a little gem. There’s a decent traditional sand based park which features swings, a slide and climbing structure. Walk around to the other side of the community centre and you will find a recently constructed, fully fenced and shaded, toddler playground. This features soft fall ground, a basket swing, musical elements, a play structure and slide. My girls love racing around this little park. Just around the corner from the Alexander Heights IGA, is Lemongrass Park, a lovely shaded playground with traditional equipment and some nature play elements. One of the main features that caught our eye was the rope equipment. CY O’Connor Hub Playground is a lovely drive to Mundaring Weir, through Perth’s Hills. You can get there from Kalamunda or Mundaring. Not only is the huge dam essential to WA’s water supply, but it’s a lovely spot for a family picnic. There are historical, natural, play and educational attractions in the “CY O’Connor Hub”, which is found on the north side of the weir, accessed by a road behind the Mundaring Weir Hotel.
