Optimus Gaming is a virtual reality gaming centre located in Balcatta. We had to arrive 15 min early for our booking, as they need to give you a rundown on how everything works, and we did not want that cutting into our 1 hour of gaming time.
There is a choice of quite a few different games. One of these games was a zombie killing spree, and there was no chance I was going to enter into that world! After we chose our game ( a nonscary one for me), we were shown to our very own booth and had to put on the virtual reality goggles. As soon as I put them on, it was honestly like I was in the game. Even though the first 15 min is a bit of an intro video and a few instructions on how to use the controls, I was still blown away by how real it felt. I might of even let out a bit of a scream when the floor started to disappear from around me (well, in the game it did).
There is a computer screen above your booth, so if you are having trouble working out the controls or figuring the game out, the host can help you out by viewing what you are doing. After playing the nonscary, simple game, I got up the courage to try a two-player robot shooting game. Even though hubby and I were in separate booths, we could still play together in the game, and even talk to each other through the microphone. We joined forces and kicked butt! I also might of let out another scream (and a duck) when a robot came and attacked me from above.
The whole experience was a bit surreal, and you honestly feel like you are in another world. You can also change games at any stage, so don’t worry too much if you don’t like the first one you pick because you can always swap. For the real enthusiasts, you can also choose to drive in a rally car. I was warned that this could cause motion sickness, which I get quite easy, so I decided to pass on that.
Optimus Gaming offer birthday parties and you can even hire out the entire venue. Apparently, it’s quite a popular place for bucks nights. Children need to be aged 8 years and over to play.
Sessions go for 1 hour and cost $49 per person, or $39 per person for the rally cars. You do need to book in advance as it can get booked out quite quickly on weekends. To book, or for more info, you can visit www.optimusgaming.com.au
