Craigie Leisure Centre

Craigie Leisure Centre is a brilliant allโ€‘round spot for active families, especially if your kids love the water. Tucked just off Whitfords Avenue in Craigie, it brings together indoor and outdoor pools, a dedicated splash pad, sports courts, a gym and plenty of kidsโ€™ programs, so you can easily turn a quick swim into a full day out.

Inside, the leisure pool is where most families start. One side of the pool has a gentle, beachโ€‘style entry thatโ€™s ideal for toddlers and cautious swimmers, with shallow water and small fountains to splash in.

As it gradually deepens, the space opens up for bigger kids who love getting under the tall tower of tipping buckets. The suspense of waiting for the buckets to fill and dump water over everyoneโ€™s heads always gets squeals and giggles, and itโ€™s a great way for kids to build water confidence while still having fun close to the edge.

The leisure pool is partially divided by a low wall, which helps keep the littlies from suddenly wandering into deeper water. There are usually a few pool noodles and kickboards around that children can play with under supervision.

Lifeguards are on duty, and the safety rules are very clear: children under 11 must be actively supervised at all times, and underโ€‘6s need an adult in the water with them and within armโ€™s reach. For parents juggling more than one child, the showers right by the pool make it easier to rinse everyone off quickly before heading to the change rooms.

Step outside and youโ€™ll find one of the centreโ€™s biggest drawcards for young families: the water Playground set on an aqua splash pad. This fully wet play area is filled with fountains, sprays, spouts and smaller tipping features that kids can run through, dash under, jump over and aim at each other.

Different sections are controlled by pushโ€‘buttons and will turn off after a while until someone presses them again, which younger kids usually think is half the fun.

Much of the splash pad is shaded by sails, and there are benches along the windows and near the doors back to the indoor pools, so adults can sit close by while still staying out of the spray. Itโ€™s worth keeping an eye on little feet for bees on warm days, as theyโ€™re sometimes attracted to the puddles.

Beyond the splash pad is the 50โ€‘metre outdoor lap pool, with a generous section available for confident swimmers and older kids.

During busy periods and holidays, you may find a giant inflatable obstacle course set up on the water, which is hugely popular with tweens and teens who like a challenge.

Around the pool thereโ€™s shaded grass for picnics, some sun lounges to relax on, barbecues for a sausage sizzle, and separate outdoor toilets and changerooms so you donโ€™t have to duck back inside once youโ€™re set up.

Inside, families will appreciate the practical touches that make visits smoother: lockers for valuables, plenty of toilets and changerooms, and an onโ€‘site cafรฉ overlooking the pool area. The cafรฉ serves simple, kidโ€‘friendly options like toasties, sausage rolls, chips, muffins, cakes and sandwiches, along with hot drinks, cold drinks and ice creams. There are tables, chairs and highchairs, so you can refuel before heading back in for another swim or drying off to go home.

Beyond the pools, Craigie Leisure Centre is a complete community hub. Thereโ€™s a fully equipped gym, a wide range of fitness classes (including options for overโ€‘50s), indoor sports courts for basketball, netball and soccer, and a Crรจche and Kidz Club that let parents fit in a workout while the kids are looked after. Swimming lessons and squad programs are available for children of all ages, and there are casual visit prices as well as membership options, so you can choose whatever suits your family best.

With its combination of indoor leisure pool, outdoor splash pad, large lap pool, barbecues, grassed areas and a handy cafรฉ, Craigie Leisure Centre is an easy, flexible choice for a family swim any time of year. Whether youโ€™re popping in for a quick splash with toddlers or spending the afternoon with older kids tackling the inflatable course, itโ€™s a place where everyone can burn off energy and have fun together.
