York Tiny Door Trail

If you’re after something a bit different on a York day out, the York Tiny Door Trail is a great little activity. Best of all, it won’t cost you a cent. It’s very similar to a fairy door trail, but I suppose this is probably less ‘girly’ for the boys to join in too! York is WA’s oldest inland settlement, dating back to 1831 and there are still plenty of lovely old buildings to admire.

Head to the York Visitor Centre in the beautiful town hall building and grab a free trail map, which doubles as a colouring sheet for the kiddos.

While you’re there, there’s also a few activities for the kids, like a rack of dressups to enjoy.

There are 10 cute tiny doors to spot around the Avon Valley town, mainly dotted along Avon Terrace (York’s main street) and through the leafy Avon Park. This adventure keeps the little ones engaged and moving without any of the faffing around town, as they’re genuinely excited about finding each whimsical door. It’s not a massive undertaking either, so you can take your time and soak up the town while you hunt.

As you wander, you stumble across heaps of other attractions along the way. The Flour Mill Emporium is brilliant stop if anyone gets peckish. There’s a café and a small playground here, so you can stretch the legs and grab a bite.

Avon Park itself is a must-stop (the flying fox there is an absolute hit with the kids). There’s a small skate park, suspension bridge and grass to enjoy a picnic.

Then there’s the York Motor Museum if the car enthusiasts in your crew fancy checking out plenty of vintage cars.

The Residency Museum is a good stop for a bit of history, as you try to locate the tiny door there. We treated it like a treasure hunt, find a tiny door, tick it off the map, spot another attraction, have a little explore. The kids were kept entertained for ages, and we discovered bits of York we might’ve otherwise walked past.

Grab the map, take a walk around York, and see what you stumble across. Good simple fun!
