Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre
Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre in Inglewood has recently had a refresh and has now reopened to the public following completion of Stage 1 of an upgrade. The indoor pools have been resurfaced and the tiling around the pools updated and is ready for fun times.
Indoors
The family pool has a beach entry with plenty of room for toddlers and babies to splash around. The water is shallow, to around .4m and the first metre or so as you walk in has a pebbled texture.
Further into the family pool, there’s a lazy river with small sprinklers on the wall as you pass by. The current draws you along. My Miss 7 loved this river whirlpool!
Also in this area is a jacuzzi style seating area with bubbles. My daughter also loved this!
The family pool is warm and inviting. Children will love splashing around and practicing their swimming. The deepest part is around .9m deep.
Adjacent to the beach entry is a waterfall and spray fountain feature. These are fun to swim through or play around. My husband found the pressure of the waterfall wonderful on his sore back and shoulders.
There is seating around the outside of the pool to store your strollers and keep bags dry. Prior to the recent update, there were lockers for valuables. These lockers don’t seem to be where they were, but perhaps they will return at a later date.
In the past when we have visited, there were swimming classes running, so half of the pool was sectioned off. This makes for a smaller swimming area and less places to store bags. Therefore, maybe plan ahead if you can for a quiet time if this is a concern.
Adjacent to the family pool is the larger lap pool. This is used for older children’s swimming lessons, adults swimming laps and other aquatic therapies. It starts at a depth of 0.9mm and reaches 1.5m at the deeper end.
This larger pool was more empty on our visit. My husband took himself off to swim some laps. Meanwhile, Miss 7 and I swam and played in the family pool, and after that joined him in the leisure swimming lane of the larger pool. Miss 7 enjoyed practicing her floating and swimming.
In addition to the indoor pools being refurbished, the change rooms, spa and sauna have also been upgraded. The change rooms have new roomier shower stalls and new toilets. There are more change room benches, new basins and mirrors for dressing. The outer wall outside these changing areas has a Scandinavian sauna look with warm wooden cladding.
Outdoors
Outside features a huge grassed area with a full-length lane swimming pool and a shaded toddler pool (this has been closed on our previous visits). There is also a shaded family pool which is 0.9m in depth, which is great for older kids.
The centre has several picnic shelters around the grassed area and barbecues so a great place for a kids birthday party or family swim and picnic for example.
There are also plenty of shade sails around the grassed area making this a great place to hang out for the day for a dip in the water.
The outdoor section is similarly awaiting an upgrade at a later stage. These include plans for a new L-shaped 50m outdoor pool, improved landscaping with LED lighting, new barbecues, an accessible ramp, and water polo features.
The day we visited, the outdoor area was being used for swimming lessons.
A café area overlooks the family swimming pool inside. This was previously a raised area, and now sits at the same level as the pool the time of out visit the café was closed. Miss 7 asked why this café was closed, but the staff member was spoke to said she didn’t know. Consequently we can only assume it closed during the renovations and due to the recent health restrictions. All signage has been removed however, so perhaps a refresh is also on the cards for the café. We certainly hope this will reopen again soon.
Meanwhile, the café seating is a handy spot for family members to wait during swimming lessons.
