The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

The newly redeveloped East Fremantle Oval area has been transformed into a fantastic family-friendly space, featuring a nature playground located in front of the Carnaby Cafe. Burns Beach Foreshore Playground is a little hidden gem of a family play area. Don’t be mistaken with this playground and the Burns Beach Cafe Playground, yes there are two playgrounds! Located across from the WA Museum Boola Bardip is the Perth Cultural Centre Playspace, a quirky little play space which has a heavy focus on sensory play. The Playspace is fully fenced and gated and it is open daily from 8am – 7pm. Calleya Playground is an awesome playground located in Stocklands Calleya Estate in Banjup. There are 2 slides, including a very high twisty one for the brave and a smaller hill slide. A highlight of Calleya Playground is the 2 in-ground trampolines, they are very popular with kids of all ages and not something that you normally come across in a playground. It has 2 sets of swings. Nestled amongst the new Niche Living housing estate in Willetton is a brand new playground perfect for kids of any age. We went to check it out over the weekend and my kids (aged 2 and 6) loved it! Just off of Beach Road in Girrawheen, we discovered Tendring Park, a neat little park with a life sized snakes and ladders game. The main play structure in the playground features a twisty slide, a climbing wall, a rope climbing web, a fireman pole, some balancing platforms, monkey bars, and a little steering wheel at the top for imagination play. Wattle Grove Nature Playscape is a great little nature playground which uses naturally occurring and purpose built play features. Found on Lenihan Corner, off Hale Road in Wattle Grove is this little pocket of bush in suburbia surrounded by house and shops. There is a naturally occurring creek nearby (not fenced). While Colour Block Park (The LEGO Park) may not be overly big, it definitely has the WOW factor! The main feature is a climbing structure made up of large brightly coloured building blocks. Kalamunda’s Stirk Park was a favourite of mine, back in the 80s when I was growing up in the Perth Hills. The park has long been a popular location for mothers group get-togethers and family picnics. The snazzy new playground and skate park at Stirk Park has just opened (Nov 2023) after a long-awaited redevelopment. It is located on the corner of Summerhome Parade and Campground Road in the Beachside precinct of Capricorn Yanchep, in the far northern suburbs of Perth. There’s lots of fun elements packed into this compact playground including a little nature play, as well as thinks to keep active and fit. Rotary Park in Wanneroo is one of our favourite playgrounds, the park originally opened in 1979 since then the space has undergone major developments and has been really well cared for by the City of Wanneroo. Hawaiian’s Mezz Playground, Mount Hawthorn Recently Hawaiian’s Mezz in Mount Hawthorn upgraded their children’s playground to a new nature play style setup. While we were all locked out of playgrounds due to COVID-19, Floreat Beach Playspace had a total makeover! The focal point of the playground is the ‘Kraken’, a cephalopod-like sea monster which I think looks a little like a blue-ringed octopus! A few years ago I wrote the original blog on Pioneer Avon Park, which is located on banks of Avon River in York, fast forward to 2020 the park is unrecognisable! The playground is nature-based and features recycled timber seating throughout, sheltered picnic tables, BBQs, toilets and plenty of shade! Point Fraser Foreshore Reserve is a must visit if you’re heading into the city for the day with older kids. The equipment in this park is more suited towards school-aged children due to the equipment and steep hills around the landscape of the park. We made our journey to the Point Fraser Reserve directly from the city, it’s very easy to find if you just follow the river edge. Located in the heart of the new community at Mandogalup, Florence Estate Park is the new playground that beautifully incorporates wooden beams for its play equipment. This spacious playground is nested beside rows of mature trees, providing scenic greenery, and playing in the park feels like you’re right next to nature. Masons Gardens in Dalkeith is a lovely neighbourhood park, with an art trail, play equipment and even a turtle habitat! If you head into the turtle pond area, you’re sure to spot a shy Oblong Turtle or two. The pond is fenced, with access through a couple of gates.
