On the hunt for a post-breakfast play spot in Wanneroo, I found myself spoilt for choice. Preferring to steer away from much-loved Rotary Park after a recent school holidays visit to Café Elixir, my toddler and I ended up at nearby Nyunda Park on Nannatee Way. The playground’s softfall was replaced in late 2022 and the play equipment is all relatively new. Warradale Park in Landsdale is home to one of Perth’s most heartfelt and thoughtfully designed play spaces. The fully fenced nature Playground on Southmead Drive was created in memory of toddler Sam Trott and stands as a beautiful tribute to the community spirit that surrounded his family. Willespie Park is a great little playground located in Pearsall, the playground isn’t fenced but is situated away from any roads. Willespie Park includes a good sized playground with equipment to suit a range of children. Unfortunately, the playground isn’t shaded so bring along sunscreen and a hat. It can be found off the Stoneville Road entrance or via ramp or stairs from the shopping centre near the Post Office. Found in the heart of a new housing estate, Mason Green Park in Piara Waters is a brilliant spot for a play. There’s lots of fun elements packed into this compact playground including a little nature play, as well as thinks to keep active and fit. The wooden play equipment is partly shaded by shade sails and built on a mix of woodchip and soft fall base. And there’s lots to explore… There’s a nest swing, perfect for lounging around in! Just down the road from Waldecks Stirling is a neat little playground on a leafy street, is Candella Square Playground. This is a well maintained small playground. The main playground structure includes a twisty slide, a curved flying fox, a wooden climbing wall, a climbing pole as well as the usual steps and ladders. On a recent road trip, we took a detour through Northam, the detour was originally to check out the Northam Suspension Bridge, which is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in Australia. After crossing the bridge, which was well worth the visit (until the kids thought it was fun to make it sway), we discovered Bernard Park which features two fully fenced play areas, a water playground, sculptures, amphitheatre, picnic and BBQ facilities and public toilets. Ashfield Reserve Play Space Ashfield Reserve Play Space in Perth’s eastern suburbs is a hidden gem. Sharing the parkland with Ashfield Oval, this spot has something for all ages. We dropped in for a play during school holidays to burn off some energy. This was a great spot for it, too! Miss 5 enjoyed that there is lots to climb at Ashfield Reserve Play Space. Joe Saunders Park in Champion Lakes is a great place to take the kids with plenty on offer for all ages. Set amongst the backdrop of the very impressive purpose built/man-made lake and close to the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre – which hosts rowing, canoeing, dragon boating and triathlon events throughout the year. The Garratt Road Bridge or AP Hinds Reserve is a quiet playground and picnic spot under the bridge on the river in Bayswater. It is just down from the popular Riverside Gardens. We walked down there after a coffee at the coffee van at Riverside Gardens. The kids rode their scooters along the pathways, stopping at the exercise equipment spots along the way for a quick play.
