The ultimate guide to the best playgrounds and parks in Perth! Kids love burning off energy at parks and playgrounds, and Perth’s got some of the best in the world. We’ve seen many new super parks open up recently with some impressive play equipment, features and facilities. Best of all, they’re all FREE!
We’ve listed sand and no-sand parks as we know this can be an issue with some parents not wanting their kids to play in sand. We’ve added categories to filter parks with water features, enclosed fenced playgrounds, partly fenced and non-fenced. Those with open water where you can visit the ducks and enjoy some wildlife during your trip to the park. Many parks have toilets. However, some local community playgrounds don’t, which can be a deal breaker if you’re potty training your little one or want to stay longer than an hour. So we’ve listed parks with toilets available.
Lastly, we’ve added details of where playgrounds are close to local coffee shops, cafes and restaurants. Therefore you can grab a bite to eat before or after your play, or grab a takeaway coffee.

Calling all climbers! The recently revamped play space at Flinders Park in Hillarys is ideal for kids who love a challenge. The playground reopened several months ago and now boasts various rope ladders and climbing frames, plus balance and stepping logs for kids to test their agility. Located on the beautiful South Perth foreshore is Hurlingham Rd Park a playground designed for able bodied and less able bodied children. The main play structure can be accessed by a wheelchair ramp. Sandow Park is a little gem of a park is hidden away in Clarkson. It’s located on the corner of Marmion Ave and Hester Ave but you wouldn’t know it from within the park itself. It’s set downhill and behind trees hiding most of the traffic and ensuring that children and pets can’t dash onto busy roads. It’s a small local park, with no barbecues, shelters or toilets but it’s got some of our favourite play equipment. Santa Ana Park Currambine – hidden away behind the Currambine shops, down Santa Ana Mews is a little gem of a park. Tall trees surround a few grassy areas, perfect for kicking around a ball and provide shade to most of the park. Deep Water Point Park has everything you could possibly want for a mums playgroup meet-up, coffee & cake with friends or on your own, stroll next to the river, family BBQ or family breakfast/lunch/dinner. Vellgrove Reserve is a simple yet entertaining park located in Middle Swan. We discovered this quiet, colourful playground after making a wrong turn. My little girl was in love with the colourful stepping logs, so we had to stop for a play. The playground consists of 3 main structures: a wooden swing set, blocks of colourful stepping logs and a rock climbing frame with a slide on the other side. A brand new play space is now open just opposite the Westcoast Eagles training ground. Tom Wright Park located in Carlisle encompasses a nature play area, water play feature, swings, scooter track, skate park, basketball and tennis courts and also a fully fenced dog park. Millet Park, Innaloo Around the corner, not far away from busy Westfield Innaloo, is Millet “Spider-Man” Park. This green leafy park features climbing equipment, a small traditional playground, and now a skate facility and junior bike track. There’s something for everyone! The Tom Simpson Park has a new playground (opened July 2018) and is a welcome addition to the grassy Mullaloo foreshore! The rusty, tired old metal play structure on the north end of the park has gone and now there’s a fun-tastic wooden structure, as well as a little nature and water play and a toddler area too. The playground is dominated by a large wooden fort-like structure, best for older kids, as all the ways to the top are via climbing nets. We recently found a new bee themed park in Beckenham. The park has bee themed play equipment and hexagonal design features keeping the bee theme. In the largest hexagonal the play equipment features a bee platform with a slide that is accessed from a wooden bridge or climbing ropes on either side. Today we discovered the newly opened pirate playground in Ellenbrook. It’s located on Verbana Drive near Cashman Avenue. It is fully fenced (although there are a few areas where little ones could escape in the space under the fencing), shaded and there is soft fall and well as sand within in the park. As a mum of a busy 2-year-old toddler, I couldn’t be more thrilled with Joondalup Square playground, located opposite the gigantic Bunnings Warehouse. As an added bonus, the well thought out open-air play area is surrounded by eateries! Joondalup Square playground is shaded by two shade sails and is fully fenced and gated. Harbour View Park is a partially fenced toddler friendly playground in Hillarys. The playground consists of a boat inspired climbing frame, with small ladders, a rock climbing wall, enclosed slide, steering wheel and speaking tube. Booyeembara Park located on Montreal Street in Fremantle is gorgeous parkland with plenty of open space, bush land, walking circuits and a central man-made lake. Delamere Park Playground in Currambine delivers on everything you want to keep kids aged 2yrs onwards entertained and active for hours. The only thing it doesn’t deliver on is shade and this park does sit on a main thoroughfare road. Grenville Reserve is a hidden gem of a park located in the heart of Tuart Hill. It is located on the corner of Stoneham and Hector Streets, behind Tuart College. This park features a playground that would suit children of various ages and skill levels. After over four years in the making, the 9 million dollar redevelopment of Shirley Strickland Reserve is complete! The dog-friendly sporting reserve is now home to a state-of-the-art Sport and Community Pavilion, a fantastic nature playground, fitness equipment and cycle/walking paths. This is a fantastic spot to grab a picnic or BBQ and let the kids run around the grassed area and play in the small pirate themed fenced playground. Neil McDougall Park is a leafy park with a great playground for kids of all ages in the heart of Como. The first thing that grabbed Miss 3’s attention when we arrived here was the flying fox. This has a small platform to climb up and launch from. With a bit of help from me, she had several rides. She loved it! Smiles all around when she hopped off. Set right in the middle of the new, vibrant dining and entertainment precinct at Westfield Whitford City is a beautifully unique play area for children. Overlooked by many of the restaurants and sheltered underneath shade sails, the play area is unlike any I’ve ever seen before. Coogee Beach Playground – it’s been many years since I visited Coogee Beach. Thankfully not much has changed. The beautiful lush grass strip is still there and is perfect for a game of cricket or dusting off the old frisbee or kicking the ball around. Noah’s Playground opened in October 2018 in the beautiful Rosehill Waters Estate, South Guildford, the playground is inspired by the story of Noah’s Arc and is perfect for adventurous kids! The main feature is a huge wooden structure with three towers joined by suspension bridges and a tunnel slide in the middle.
