Playgrounds with a skate park adjacent are fantastic for families with kids of all ages. Littler ones can play and cut loose, while older ones can practise their skills and socialise with friends. But skate parks aren’t just for big kids. Little ones who want to skate too have to start somewhere. So why not your local skate park? It’s a win for everyone!

Located in Mandogalup’s new residential area, Apsley Park combines recreational facilities with open spaces. Carine Open Space is one of our local and favourite parks to head to on the weekend as there are oodles to do and see. We usually spend a few hours there if it’s nice weather and take the kids scooters/bikes and the dog. This is a big favourite for dog walkers on the weekend and they sometimes have organised sporting comps on at the weekend so it can get busy at peak times. The Esplanade Youth Plaza in Fremantle is a family-friendly, inner-city hangout located at the southeastern corner of Fremantle’s Esplanade Reserve. Costing $1.6million to develop, the Plaza opened in April 2014. The Esplanade Youth Plaza features a world-class skate park catering for skaters of all abilities with its long continuous street run and other elements such as stair sets, hubbas, rails and gaps. The Eden Beach Lookout and Playspace is a brand new section of Eden Beach estate in Jindalee has just opened (Dec 2021) and it’s great for the older kids! Featuring a basketball court, rock climbing wall, parkour, skate/scooter ramps and a huge grassy area it’s a beautiful spot to spend a few hours. My kids loved the parkour, and the scooter ramps were a huge hit. There’s a few shaded picnic bench areas and also a bbq as well. Lathlain Park is found to the north of Mineral Resources Park – aka the home of the mighty West Coast Eagles! It’s a lovely little spot, across the road from the small but mighty Lathlain cafe strip, and larger playgrounds at both Rayment Park and Tom Wright Park. The popular Mills Park facility has recently opened a new all-abilities playground near the bbqs and grassed area. This new edition to the existing Mills Park Playspace and Skate Plaza is fully fenced and double gated which is also great for younger children. A good amount of the enclosed playground area is covered by shade sails and there are also a few seating options for parents too. The playground has a mix of play equipment, imaginative play elements and nature play. In the heart of Armadale, you will find Memorial Park. As of September 2018, the City of Armadale has reopened the park with a new train theme, which is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages! The first part of the playground we saw on approach was the train-shaped play frame and the station. Robinson Reserve, Tuart Hill As of July 2019, Robinson Reserve in Tuart Hill has a new playground. Covered by shade sails, this play area is full of fun for kids from tots to teens. Katanning All Ages Playground is a one of a kind playground, the type of playground that creates memories that last a lifetime! Located in the heart of the new community at Mandogalup, Florence Estate Park is the new playground that beautifully incorporates wooden beams for its play equipment. This spacious playground is nested beside rows of mature trees, providing scenic greenery, and playing in the park feels like you’re right next to nature. My girls headed straight to the main play area, where the big slide is. The tall climbing structure consists of different climbing wall panels for the kids to climb onto. The Heron Park Estate has created a scooter track, as well as a small skate park, and even basketball/football facilities – so remember to pack a ball too! If you’re looking for a playground to suit active older kids and younger siblings, Crimea Skate Park and Playground might be just the play space for you. The skate park was opened in March 2008, and features a number of ramps, rails and ledges. Gingin is a small and quaint township with a mighty new playground that is jam-packed with features and caters for children of all ages! The playground is nature-based, one of the main features is the Gingin Tower which includes two slides, a rope ladder and bridge. Other nature-based elements include stepping stumps and logs. Scarborough Beach Skate Park, AKA The Snake Pit, is one of the biggest and most diverse Skate Parks in the country. The Snake Pit is a competition grade skate bowl and is just one of many highlights of the Scarborough Beach skate park. My kids and I visit a lot of playgrounds… but the brand new Wandi Playing Fields Playground is hands down our favourite playground in Perth (big call right!) – while there is no crazy slide or huge tower, there is lots of different play areas and something for kids of all ages and abilities! The Village at Wellard Playground offers something for all ages! There is 7m rope climbing frame they can come down the slide at the middle or keep climbing to the 2 stories above. Mandurah’s newest playground, Koolaanga Waabiny, is nothing short of EPIC! Koolaanga Waabiny Playground is the latest addition to the redevelopment of Mandurah’s Western Foreshore, which also includes the construction of the Mandurah Skate Park which opened in 2020, a new toilet block facility and the meeting place artwork which were both completed in 2021. The name is pronounced kool-lung-ga waa-bin, and translates to children playing (Waabiny) and also refers to the local Swamp Sheoak trees (Koolaanga). The newly redeveloped East Fremantle Oval area has been transformed into a fantastic family-friendly space, featuring a nature playground located in front of the Carnaby Cafe. The fort-style playground boasts multiple levels, a climbing rope, fireman poles, a slide, and a climbing wall. Children can also enjoy a wooden stepping stone and rope agility course. Mirror Park in Ocean Reef is a large oval field and play area consisting of a playground suitable for toddlers, a skate park and toilet block. Parking surrounds the oval as well as set off from the main road in front of the playground. It’s not fenced or shaded so not suitable for toddlers prone to running off or during the height of summer. Do your kids watch ninja warrior shows and tell you that they want to challenge one? Then you have to bring them down to Radiata Park at Aubin Grove to give them a taste of the ninja warrior-style obstacle course! Tom Wright Park located in Carlisle encompasses a nature play area, water play feature, swings, scooter track, skate park, basketball and tennis courts and also a fully fenced dog park. A great place to stop in whilst travelling north, Wangaree Park in the centre of Lancelin has everything you need for the perfect pit-stop. There is a great playground with equipment for all ages, that is shaded by huge trees. To one side of the playground it some new fitness equipment. Booyeembara Park located on Montreal Street in Fremantle is gorgeous parkland with plenty of open space, bush land, walking circuits and a central man-made lake. Located within the park is a small quirky playground. The centre piece of the playground is an unusual 5 way swing. The swings are designed for children aged 6 – 12 years. The Banksia Grove Skate Park has been built with everybody in mind, from toddlers to teens – there is even plenty of seating for parents to sit back and relax while watching their kids play! Kalamunda’s Stirk Park was a favourite of mine, back in the 80s when I was growing up in the Perth Hills. The park has long been a popular location for mothers group get-togethers and family picnics. The snazzy new playground and skate park at Stirk Park has just opened (Nov 2023) after a long-awaited redevelopment. While the Wanneroo skate park has been established for a long time a children’s playground is a more recent addition. The park sits within the confines of the showgrounds, meaning it is secure for little runaways! I’m not sure if the playground colours of green and purple are a nod to the 1970’s Wanneroo Primary School colours, or just a happy accident, either way, it is a fun combo. Located right at the Leederville cafe strip, this fenced and gated playground is sure to be a winner. The impressive $1.5m The Edge Skatepark Calista is one of WA’s biggest skating facilities. The skatepark’s main features are a competition-level bowl, street section, beginner’s area (great for little ones on scooters), parkour obstacles and a basketball half-court. The Veterans Memorial Park Port Kennedy has something to suit the whole family, from tiny tots to teens! The large park includes two playgrounds, the new-ish Port Kennedy skate park and a memorial dedicated to our war veterans.
