What’s great about parks with water play?
Similar to nature play, water play allows children to get back in touch with natural elements. It provides important learning opportunities to all ages. Likewise, playing in water offers a chance to get grubby. In other words, water playgrounds provide a sensory delight in splashing around on a splash pad or an opportunity let kids get hands-on building and creating in mud kitchens or sand with their friends.

The Tom Simpson Park has a new playground (opened July 2018) and is a welcome addition to the grassy Mullaloo foreshore! The rusty, tired old metal play structure on the north end of the park has gone and now there’s a fun-tastic wooden structure, as well as a little nature and water play and a toddler area too. Banks Reserve is located in Mouth Lawley on the banks of the Swan River, the play space is bearly recognisable after an extensive redevelopment. Just 5 minutes drive from Garden City Shopping Centre, atop Wireless Hill, is a beautiful is Wireless Hill Nature Playspace. We arrived in the middle of the day, and amazingly the play area is naturally shaded by the surrounding trees, even at noon. The new Shelley Beach playground is a great playground to visit. It’s right on the river, and around the enclosed playground is plenty of grass to kick a ball on, BBQs and gazebos and, of course, the beautiful river. My 10-year-old was impressed with the park, especially the X-park obstacle course. The course is set up with a starting point and different obstacles throughout, including climbing, balancing and swinging. Aviary Creek Park is a fun and creative play space in the growing suburb of Aveley. The one-of-a-kind playground has been built around two natural lakes and the main feature is a giant water wheel with twisting tunnel slides! We recently visited the redeveloped Mundaring Community Sculpture Park. It is located on Jacoby Street across the road from The Mundaring Hotel (not to be confused with the Mundaring Weir Hotel) There is more than enough parking along the road as it seemed everyone was there to take advantage of the good weather after the rain. It is very impressive with the main focus being on nature play.
