Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup is a park more suited to the under 5’s. The playground is partially enclosed and is quite compact and easy to keep track of little ones. It features play equipment in the guise of a train engine and its carriages with each carriage providing a different feature. The train engine houses a small slide which is great for crawlers and early walkers. Occupying a beautiful spot along the banks of the Swan River, Bardon Park in Maylands is a great spot to play! There are two playgrounds located at Bardon Park. The first, closest to the car park, is relatively new and contains some unique play equipment and a focus on nature play. You’ll find a birds nest swing. A net bridge A couple of balancing beams. An unusual roundabout. An arched climbing frame. A musical area. A very cool flying fox which provided Miss 4 with endless fun! At Carrington Park in Nedlands, a new playground has been installed.   Yay! Don’t worry, Big Bertha is still there, shining as brightly as ever, New play equipment, new shades, new tables and chairs. The new playground is more toddler-friendly with shorter slides, smaller steps, a rocking frog and a crawling tunnel. Kids of all ages can still enjoy it nonetheless. It is still fully gated and fenced. They were plenty of friendly dogs doing their morning exercise or just simply running area on the grassy area just outside the playground. The Charles Riley Reserve is tucked away in North Beach alongside the local Community Centre and sports fields. There are rolling manicured lawns and landscaped gardens surrounding a small war memorial, and behind this, you will find a fun new playground that is sand-based with additional purple soft fall surfaces. At our weekly shop on Saturday we were very excited to see that Floreat Forum shopping centre has just opened a new playground in the outdoor area by the cafes/restaurants. Previously there had just been a couple of small things for toddlers to play on but now there is a proper playground complete with shade sails. Features of Floreat Forum playground include a little ‘café’ with a table and chairs and a counter, complete with prices on a board at the front. The Swanbourne Beach Foreshore Playground is set in between the beach and The Shorehouse Restaurant.   This is a fantastic spot to grab a picnic or BBQ and let the kids run around the grassed area and play in the small pirate themed fenced playground. There is a small car park in front of the playground with much more parking further round towards the surf club. Carine Open Space is one of our local and favourite parks to head to on the weekend as there are oodles to do and see. We usually spend a few hours there if it’s nice weather and take the kids scooters/bikes and the dog.  This is a big favourite for dog walkers on the weekend and they sometimes have organised sporting comps on at the weekend so it can get busy at peak times. Seabreeze Park is located just off Safety Bay Road in the new Seabreeze Estate in Waikiki and for a local play area, it has a lot to offer.  There are two main activity areas at Seabreeze Park, one focuses on sand and has innovative sand play equipment whilst the other focuses on climbing, making it very family friendly catering for all ages. Annie’s Landing District Playspace in Ellenbrook  is a treat for both older and younger children. Annie’s Landing District Playspace is located at the very end of Bandrock Drive in Ellenbrook. Just keep following the signs for the Annie’s Landing display village and you won’t be able to miss it. The playground has been sympathetically designed to make use of its natural bushland setting. Variety Place Playground is located on Saw Avenue in Kings Park The natural design beautifully incorporates the bush, wood, rock and other pieces of nature.  The previous park at Saw Avenue also used natural materials, and was enjoyed by Perth patrons for three generations! I love educating myself and the kids while we play!  Signs like these are scattered around Variety Place Playground. Port Coogee Marina is a gorgeous spot for families to relax and enjoy one of Perth’s gorgeous summer days. Nestled in the Port Coogee estate, the marina area offers a pram friendly, sheltered beach with calm waters – perfect for a paddle in. However, you do need to stay close to young children as the water gets quite deep suddenly several metres from the shoreline. You can visually see where this happens as the water changes colour. Tucked away off James Spiers Drive is Regent Waters Playground, a small suburban playground. The location borders on Lake Joondalup and is very peaceful and pretty with birdlife and clusters of shady trees. Regent Waters Playground is sandbased and surrounded by plenty of grass with three large sheltered picnic tables scattered at intervals. There is a gas barbeque under the trees for public use, making this a good spot for a family picnic or event. Was on the way to Claremont Quarter when we stumbled across a fantastic playground just a stone’s throw away from CQ. Rowe Park consists of, a playground, separate sand pit area, lush greenery, benches, basketball court, tennis courts, drinks fountain and plenty of shade. There is also BBQ pits and picnic tables in the near future. The playground features 2 slides, drums, rocking frog, see-saw, spider-web climbing ropes, wobbly bridge, swings, rock climbing, monkey bars, tic-tac-toe and a huge sandpit. St Leonards Park is a fantastic playground for kids of all ages located in the St Leonards Estate in the Swan Valley. The playground consists of two separate areas catering for both toddlers and older children. Tucked away in The Vines is Emms Green which is home to a quirky little playground. The playground has a focus on imaginative play. There is a large cubby house which contains a set of whisper poles at each end for secret chats. There are wooden planks to run through. And wooden poles to climb. In a hidden pocket of Hillarys, lies a freshly revamped kids playground set amongst the leafy trees and green lawns of Broadbeach Park. This picturesque park boasts a gorgeous lake with black swans and ducks gliding on its tranquil water, and pretty pathways to walk and scoot on.   Surrounding by a road and houses this sleepy hollow park is a gem of a find! It looks like many other parks in Perth with a playframe, slide, climbing, fireman’s pole, rocker, seasaw, swings etc.. Calleya Playground is an awesome playground located in Stocklands Calleya Estate in Banjup. There are 2 slides, including a very high twisty one for the brave and a smaller hill slide. A highlight of Calleya Playground is the 2 in-ground trampolines, they are very popular with kids of all ages and not something that you normally come across in a playground. Mawson Park Playground is a little treasure of a park for parents of toddlers and kids who aren’t prone to running off into the road or lake and love climbing! Kinross Park Playground also known as Falklands Park is a small local park with little facilities or attraction but worth a quick visit as it’s set back off the main road and has a large open space for the kids to run around. During the autumn and winter months the park gets very busy at weekends with Auskick games. The playframe consists of 2 slides, ladders, tunnel, climbing walls, monkey bars, noughts and crosses and a flying fox. There’s also a seesaw, rocker and 2 swings. With so much new and exciting development going on in Baldivis you would expect a new play park to match up…. and Baldivis Parks doesn’t disappoint!  Located in the new Baldivis Parks Estate, the play park is made unique by having four mini in-ground trampolines. Coogee Beach Playground – it’s been many years since I visited Coogee Beach. Thankfully not much has changed. The beautiful lush grass strip is still there and is perfect for a game of cricket or dusting off the old frisbee or kicking the ball around. My daughter thought it was her racing track and proceeded to show off her running skills to who ever was interested. McIntyre Park is located on McIntyre Avenue in Burns Beach and it offers a large grassy oval situated next to a nautical-themed playground, fringed by picnic shelters. McIntyre Park playground is largely constructed with wood and is unique in design with its nautical theme.  The playground is sand based with a soft fall pathway. I love the little seagulls that are dotted about on pieces of the play equipment. Atwell Oval Playground has had a complete upgrade and it’s quite awesome! The main feature is a large spider-web climbing frame.   There are a smaller climbing spider-web frame and monkey bars. A 6-swing swing set!  Perfect for the “Who can go the highest?” competitions. There is so much space for ball games. Unfortunately, unless the clubrooms are open there are no toilet facilities at Atwell Oval Playground but there is a drinking fountain. Glasson park is a fully-gated and fenced playground, with a track around it for kids to safely scoot around in their trikes or scooters. There are plenty of shaded grass areas too. Inside the fenced area, you can also find benches and seats as well as BBQ-pits. Perfect for a picnic or even a party. Nestled just behind the Subiaco Arts Centre, Subiaco Theatre Gardens Playspace is a lovely oasis of grass, trees, and nature play.   A fountain that creates a trickling brook runs down the centre of the park. Eden Beach Playground in Jindalee is one of many of the new playgrounds opening up in the Northern Suburbs by local land developer Satterley. Located next to the primary school playing field, Eden Beach Playground feels nice and open and airy.  There’s plenty of seating around the playground including formal benches, huge picnic tables (great for kids parties and family sunset dinners) and a low-lying wall all around the equipment. Stage 1 of the 3.6 ha Campground Adventure Park recently opened in December 2015. It is located on the corner of Summerhome Parade and Campground Road in the Beachside precinct of Capricorn Yanchep, in the far northern suburbs of Perth. The new playground has been designed so that it reflects the past heritage of the former camping ground – the Club Capricorn Resort – on which it is built. Chidley Point Reserve is an absolute gem of a place and one of my favourite places to hang out with the kids. Located on the banks of the Swan River in Mosman Park Chidley Point Reserve is the perfect spot to enjoy the calm waters of the river and a picnic or BBQ with friends. There are two car parks at Chidley Point Reserve. The upper level car park allows parking for a large number of cars. The Esplanade Youth Plaza in Fremantle is a family-friendly, inner-city hangout located at the southeastern corner of Fremantle’s Esplanade Reserve.  Costing $1.6million to develop, the Plaza opened in April 2014. The Esplanade Youth Plaza features a world-class skate park catering for skaters of all abilities with its long continuous street run and other elements such as stair sets, hubbas, rails and gaps. It also provides great fun for BMX and scooter riders. Rosslare Park in Mindarie Marina is the perfect place to take children swimming. It’s a small beach in an enclave in the Marina. The water is shallow and very calm – great for floating a blow up dingy on. Rosslare Park Mindarie is a bit of secret so SHHHHHHH!!!!  There is a large bank of steps from the shore into the water. There is a new and exciting Pirate Playground has opened at Rockingham foreshore. The wooden Pirate Ship is situated at the far end of foreshore and is a very welcome addition!  The pirate ship is set amongst trees and has views out to the ocean, a great location to get children’s imagination and play going.  There are two picnic tables and benches and there is plenty of shade under the trees surrounding the pirate ship. Orangutan Park in Golden Bay is a welcome addition to the area and provides a fantastic green open space and cool new play park. It is in keeping with the other play parks on the development which gives it that distinctive Golden Bay feel.
