If you’re sick of the same standard birthday party activities, a floristry party is a great option for your creative child. Run by Master Florist Iris (yes, the florist’s name is Iris, how cool!) from Flower Design School in Greenwood, the parties can be adapted for younger or older kids.
Iris brings everything the kids need to your house, the only thing you need to provide is a table, (and party food of course!). She walks the kids through creating their own arrangement that they can take home to keep. Depending on the ages of the children attending, Iris will demonstrate what to do or be more “hands on” guiding them (this will also affect the price of the party). As most of the kids at our party were 10-11 she ran it more like a demonstration with a buffet of flowers on the table that the kids could choose from. A buffet style party is suitable for up to 12 older kids.
The florist had choices of different flowers and decorative love hearts they could use. She walked them through step-by-step on preparing their floral foam to go in the pot, choosing the right greenery, cutting it to the right size and placing the blooms. Even though they used the same flowers and greenery, it was amazing how different each arrangement was, the individual creativity of each child really showed. It was a very quiet party, as they were all concentrating so hard!
The girls loved showing their parents what they had made, and bonus, their arrangement doubles as a goody bag! The activity took about an hour, younger kids can take up to 1.5 hours. After they had finished Iris packed all the mess away so there was nothing left for us to do.
Flower Design School also run holiday workshops for kids and can be contacted through their Facebook page.
