What’s better than an animal farm, a beautiful cafe or a mini town for kids to explore?! A place that has all of above and more! After much anticipation, Cubby Cafe in Forrestdale has finally opened it’s doors! We of course went on opening day and I highly recommend you go visit.
Located inside 11 Acre Farm at 448 Nicholson Road, Forrestdale makes it a perfect location for those SOR. It’s open Wednesday to Friday, 6am-3pm and both weekend days 7am-3pm. You can book a table online, which is super convenient, and there’s the option to book for breakfast or lunch. There are three eating areas to choose from: inside, the verandah, which is undercover and has heaters or the outdoor booths, which are semi-undercover and have heaters too, but you can still get wet in rainy weather.
On our visit, we sat in the outdoor booths. It was a very wet, windy day with even a crack of thunder, and we still didn’t get wet. Sitting undercover, watching the rain fall with the warm lighting, rustic furniture, and a hot coffee was absolutely magical. The interior and exterior of this cafe are simply stunning, and the owners have done a fantastic job.
The service was fast and friendly. Considering it was their first open day, I was pleasantly surprised. The food is farm-to-fork style and changes with the seasons. The produce you eat is grown onsite. The kids had a toad in the hole (egg in bread), and I had avocado on rye. I can vouch for both of these meals. The chef did a wonderful job, and it looked incredible, too.
If you would rather a coffee to go, they also do take away coffee and have some delicious baked goods up front, why not grab something and runamock with the kids or find a nice patch of grass to sit on
Now for the part all the parents have been waiting for the play area itself. One word to sum it up: WOW. My kids spent 2.5 hours here and still didn’t want to leave. The main attraction is, of course, Cubby Lane. A laneway of rescued cubby houses that have each been turned into a mini business for cubby town. They include a hair salon, doctors’ surgery, a discotheque, a classroom, a grocery store, a train station, a police station, a cafe, a fire station and a stage set up with its own ticket booth!
Each cubby has been decked out with furniture and toys relevant to the theme to really help the kids have the most wonderful experience. In addition to these gorgeous cubbies, there is also a tractor, a truck, tunnels, a slide for the smaller kids, the coolest tree swing ever, a grass area with a soccer net and balls and a beautiful man made creek that flows under a couple of bridges.
If that wasn’t enough, there’s also the cutest little firm animals to visit! There’s our favourite for the day, the sheep with a baby lamb , donkeys, pigs and piglets, goats, chickens, peacocks, bunnies, guinea fowl, quail and ducks.
Cubby Cafe will be open to take bookings in October for events. Cue future birthday parties!! There is no entry fee to visit so please be considerate and purchase food and drink from the cafe to show your support for our local businesses.
