The Margaret River region isn’t short of kid-friendly venues – so if you’d like to lunch at a place that ticks ALL of the boxes, Black Brewing Co is a great place to book. The Caves Road spot is home to a tasty restaurant, craft beer microbrewery and spirits by Dune Distilling at the cellar door. Dine inside the brewery, grab a table on the veranda on the dam or sit out in the beer garden, by the play area.
We were there with the kiddos in tow – ranging in age from 7 to 14 and we didn’t hear one “I’m bored” the whole time – there’s plenty to eat and explore!
As soon as you arrive via the winding driveway, walk down the steps to the grand entrance, and spot the koi in the lily pad-strewn ponds – Black Brewing Co is impressive. If Black Brewing Co seems familiar, you’d be right! Formerly home to Saracen Estate and Duckstein Brewery, the space is now Black Road Brewing Co. Whatever your age, you’ll find something here to tickle your fancy.
The immense venue caters very well for families and large groups. There’s seating outside and in. We had been sitting on the decked veranda, but found it a bit too cool and breezy, and the friendly waitstaff were only too happy to move us inside.
Black Brewing Co’s kids menu has three choices (including GF and VEG options) – fish and chips with a side of slaw, chicken tenders with chips and slaw, and a graze plate of ham, cheddar cheese, baby cucumber, tomato relish, lavosh and bread. There’s plenty of high chairs too.
The girls loved their fish and chips – the fresh flaky fish was very good quality.
The simple cheese pizza is also a good option, at the same price of the kids’ meals.
Adults can expect a menu to satisfy all hunger pangs – from beer-friendly burgers and pizzas, to dishes inspired on Eastern Asia Cuisine. If you like a gourmet pizza, there’s plenty of topping choice – from garlic bred pizza, to veggie and seafood options. My 14 year old (in that weird age too old for a kids meal, but not quite an adult), loved the “Mexicana” topped with sweet corn, green capsicum, ham, chipotle pulled pork, jalapeno mayo and pickled jalapeno.
Mr H ate a simple burger and chips, washed down with a pint of craft beer.
I enjoyed a healthy option – a tasty chicken poke bowl, with sesame soy dressing, edamame beans, radish, pickled ginger, cucumber, avo and sushi rice.
Once we all had happy tummies – it was off to explore the grounds!
The partially shaded playground is lots of fun. There’s lots of unique elements and plenty to climb.
The kiddos particularly loved the twisty slide.
Plus, the spinning cup is a lot of fun!
“Little Chef” has since he was a toddler!
Little ones will enjoy swinging on the nest swing. The area is fenced from the dam, but you may still want to keep a close eye on little climbers, with the dam being so close.
Kids will also love to walk over the bridge and explore the island.
It’s a pretty spot for some family photos, just be mindful of the steps that lead directly to the dam, if you have little ones with you.
We enjoyed our visit to Black Brewing Co. The massive venue has plenty of space for kids to roam and a lovely, family friendly feel. It has a lovely family atmosphere.
