All aboard! Join Ashley & his friends of Bennett Brook Railway at Whiteman Park on Sunday 10th September from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.
We went to the bi-annual event in May and had the best time! My Thomas the Tank obsessed toddler was in train heaven, he was especially stocked the Fat Controller was there! The event isn’t just for young kids, my 7 and 12 year olds had a great time too!
As we arrived at Whiteman Village Junction we checked our stroller into the free secured pram parking area. If you have a small baby I would recommend bringing a baby carrier, if you have one.
Trains arrive at the Village Junction Station every 5 – 10 minutes. Ashley and his friend Wyndham take trips around the Bushland Loop, the scenic trip is approximately a 5km loop – perfect duration for little ones.
During our first trip, we were lucky enough to spot some kangaroos near the Kangaroo Flats station – so keep your eyes peeled.
The kids also enjoyed spotting the quirky wooden men holding signs.
After returning to Village Junction Station we jumped aboard Betty Thompson and headed to Mussel Pool. Betty was our favourite train, the kids loved her big loud whistle (although it did frighten a few little ones).
I would recommend jumping off at Mussel Pool and checking out all the fun activities. My little ones loved patting the farm animals, while the big kids checked out the old fire engines. There was also a bouncy castle, food trucks and music to add to the atmosphere. All activities excluding food and drinks are included in your ticket price.
We returned back to the Village Junction via one of the vintage buses, my 7 year old was couldn’t believe there was pull-cord for setting off the bell – lucky for the rest of us on the bus it didn’t work anymore.
Another highlight of the day was visiting the Revolutions Transport Museum, the museum is very child-friendly and hands on. Free entry is included with your ticket.
Next to the Village Junction station are fair rides, games and food vans, these are an additional cost.
Ashley & Friends Day tickets are $20 for adults and children (2+) when purchased online.
Your ticket includes:
Unlimited heritage train rides on all three trains (all day)
