Simmo’s Ice Creamery in Dunsborough is one of those quintessential South West stops that families return to year after year. Tucked just outside town on Commonage Road, it’s far more than “just” an ice cream shop – it’s a full family fun park where kids can run, play and burn off energy between scoops, while parents relax under the trees.
Inside the cafe you’ll find an impressive line-up of flavours. Simmo’s produces over 100 varieties of ice cream, with around 60 on display at any one time. There’s everything from classics and rich chocolatey combinations to more unusual creations like fruity fig, blueberry yoghurt or fairy floss.
Those with dietary needs aren’t forgotten either, with a big selection of gluten free, dairy free and egg free ice creams and sorbets. You can enjoy your pick in a cone or cup, or go all out with sundaes, banana splits, hot waffles piled with ice cream or one of their more decadent creations.
If making a decision is too hard, you can always grab a takeaway tub to sample more flavours later at your accommodation.
The family fun park setting is what really makes Simmo’s stand out for families. The grounds are spread over lush, landscaped gardens and large grassed areas, dotted with shaded picnic tables and free BBQs. There’s plenty of room for kids to kick a footy, play cricket, chase bubbles, or simply run around and stretch their legs after time in the car. Parents can sit back with a coffee (they serve award‑winning Yahava coffee, as well as hot chocolate and tea) and keep an eye on the action.
A major highlight for younger visitors is the adventure Playground, offering a variety of engaging activities for children. It features a slide, challenging climbing walls to test agility, and a set of monkey bars for endless swinging fun.
On days when the weather isn’t perfect, or for a break from the sun, there’s a small undercover area with coin‑operated rides like merry‑go‑rounds and cars. While they’re old‑school in the best way, the simple joy of pressing a button and going for a “ride” still delights young children.
For families who love a bit of friendly competition, Simmo’s 18‑hole mini golf course is a big drawcard. The “Goofy Golf” course is fully astro‑turfed and landscaped for year‑round play, with mock water hazards, sand traps, tunnels and slopes that make many holes trickier than they first appear.
Each hole has a bench so you can wait your turn or rest between putts, and a full circuit takes at least an hour, making it a great add‑on activity. Pricing is clearly laid out: under‑13s, over‑13s and family passes (for 2 adults and 2–3 children) are all available, so it’s easy to budget your visit.
Simmo’s is also popular as a birthday party venue. The combination of big grassed areas, Playground, mini golf and ice cream is hard to beat. Bookings are essential for parties, and the team can help you connect with extra entertainment such as bouncy castles, face painters, climbing walls or even pony rides, especially during busy periods.
