The Denmark area is renowned for their excellent wineries, though we visited somewhere a little different, Bartholomew’s Meadery. Mead, or honey wine, is the world’s oldest alcoholic drink.
Theย meaderyย is well worth a visitย for families. At the cellar door you canย see the bees at work, as well asย taste theย various types of meads on offer. The kids can enjoy some of theย house made honeyย ice creams.ย ย
Bartholomewโsย Meaderyย has won many awards for their mead and honey. The family runย meaderyย specialises in the ancient craft of making mead, whichย is made fromย locally sourcedย natural honey.ย They also sell many different honey products.ย The pure honey is not processed,ย it comes straight from the hive.ย ย
ย
Thereโs a viewing hiveย insideย theย meadery, where you can see if you can spot the Queen beeย amongst the hundreds of busy bees in the glass bee hive!ย ย
There are also many bee and honey products available to purchase, includingย bee pollen, beeswax and royal jelly products.ย
ย
We really enjoyed theirย creamyย ice cream. There are lots of delicious flavour combinations, all including honey โ of course!ย There are honey and vanilla, honey and passion fruit, honey and ginger, honey and banana and much more.ย
Bartholomew’sย Meaderyย is open each dayย from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Duringย theย school holidays, it is open 9am to 5pm.ย
